I wish NBC would bring this back. The mid sixties to the mid seventies before all of the rules started to change was the golden age in the NFL. Pete Rozelle was the best commissioner in
pro sports history. He was a marketing genius. NFL Films with the voice of John Facenda and the great music made watching This Week in Pro Football and The NFL game of the week
This is awesome!!! Also used by NBC Sports during the World Series of the early and mid-70s. Watching the 1975 Fall Classic, this music is one of my favorite memories.
Thanks John80220, it's exactly what I was looking for. After NBC stopped using I thought I'd never hear it again. But that was before YouTube and people like you.
Back in those days, I wore nothing but those White Pumas! They were the sharpest looking cleats back then! Now, I wear nothing but white Nikes! Sorry about that Puma, they`re a lttle bit sharper! Lol!

@a1cjlock They'd better build a new stadium or your favorite team may be the
Los Angeles Dolphins. The Orange Bowl was better that the current stadium.

The song is called "Don't Turn Away" by Midnight Flite.
There was a disco version released on TK Records which has a stepped-down tempo and generally isn't as intense/upbeat as this version.
Still looking for a clean audio file of this fantastic theme...
zzz1zzz1xxx 3 months ago
@zzz1zzz1xxx apparently, NBC used that version for their baseball in the late 70's, which i found a bit odd
xSoccerxCorex 2 months ago
@xSoccerxCorex I think this was their staple theme for all sports coverage. They used it for NFL, NHL, and MLB games.

@zzz1zzz1xxx Did you ever find the disco version? I remember it being used briefly, but can't seem to find it myself.

@mpetraglia1975 This version was used for almost all NBC Sports coverage from 1973 through 1975, except:
(1) Wimbledon tennis, where a fanfare music that NBC would use right up through the end of their Wimbledon broadcasts in 2011;
(2) Golf, where if my memory serves me correct, they used a slow-tempo, string-laiden arrangement of this theme.
Starting in 1976, NBC would use a college marching-band arrangement of this music for collegiate sports.

@pstd72aug24 -- Do a YouTube search for Midnite Flight "Don't Turn Away" for the full disco version of the NBC Sports theme.

That is how I remember the intros to NBC's NFL games. Players getting dressed spliced w/ game footage.

NBC always had the worst theme songs. CBS and ABC killed it.

Please bring this theme back on the networks of NBC-Universal. This is great. This was before ESPN, CNN, MTV and even Fox were even born.
