  • I never heard that introduction before. Amazing and so natural. As for the main song, "Over the rainbow" Dorothy sings it so touchingly that makes it absolutely believable,

  • So pure and optimistic.

  • This is wonderful. It's great to hear Dorothy sing the oft forgotten intro to the song...she use to sing it in summer stock when she played Dorothy in stage productions of "Wizard of Oz."

  • Other than the Muny in 1957, where else did dhe Play Dorothy Gale on stage?

  • Didn't Dorothy play it in the 1960's at The Starlight in Swope Park in Kansas City. I saw Gisele MacKenzie at this venue several times and thought I saw Oz with MS Collins on their schedule, but I'm not 100% sure exactly where.

  • I just found a TV Guide from Sept. 26-Oct. 4, 1957 and in those yellow pages of entertainment news was this item: "Dorothy Collins now plans to do "Wizard of Oz" on Broadway this winter." Bummer that it didn't happen...it would have been wonderful!

  • @GiseleMacKenzieTunes That's interesting. How old was she when she'd play Dorothy in "Oz?"

  • Wow! First off, glad to see another person posting Dorothy Collins tunes! Of course I've never heard her sing this before.. what year is it from? Amazing how this song so belongs to Ms. Garland but Dorothy manages to bring her own wonderful perspective to it! One of the many reasons why I love her! Thank you rcbaxter1940.

  • Thanks for your comments. The recording is from 1961 and is from a radio transcription disc from the U.S. Defense Department. Also included on the disc are the following songs: You've Changed and I Feel A Song Coming On which she also recorded on the Top Rank Record album, A New Way to Travel.

  • Thanks for the info! I have the Top Rank album (recently posted songs from that album) and its great! Would love to hear the rest of this! Thank you again

  • this is wonderful.i had this album, but in our moving to fl,it got damaged, it is gone she brings back so many memories. . I saw her do ido,i do in summer stock, boy she could really act. i am so glad that many of her recordings are being rereleased on cd now. . i thought she was the greatest. She appeared on Hollywood Palace many times-about 8 and many of her songs are posted here. I still think of her in the great musical Follies.,even soundheim called her the best singer going. We miss her.
