Two superb shots. Austin. Liked the way the train was framed by that very solid looking overbridge at Whiston. Always like shots of steam on Miles Platting bank because they have to work so hard. Hope you had a great Christmas and I wish you a Happy New Year. Hope to see more of your work in 2012? Barry
Lovely video Austin and the traffic noise was of little concern. Some snow wouldn't have gone a miss for effect, but it seems to somehat lacking at the moment. Maybe it will put in a appearance late January...Seasons Greetings...Keith
Thanks, yes the road was busier as the departure was close to 12.00. Normally steam departs a lot earlier when the road is a bit quieter. I'm surprised my directional mic.picked up so much of the noise though
that Miles Platting shot rarely disappoints, odd that the traffic noise stopped as lizzie got nearer, great video, glad you braved the weather, were there many on that bridge I wonder, cheers.
Thanks Leon, I was a bit surprised the mic. picked up so much of that traffic noise as its a directional type. There was a busy spell with a few buses and lorries passing as Lizzie left Victoria. Only about a dozen on the bridge. Best wishes to you for Christmas and New Year and thanks for your valued info. during the last year.
Thank you kindly, in many ways poor weather adds to the atmosphere for steam shots. Not that I thought that at the time of course when juggling umbrellas and cameras!
A wonderful way to end what has been a great year for steam Austin, and may I take this opportunity to wish you and your family the Compliments of the Season, and hope we all have a great 2012....Bob
@acw71000 Thanks for that. Yes, that's the one. So solid and tricky to get such large pieces of masonary right and in man-handled position with no more than a block and tackle. Imagine the difficulties of getting the big ones to the site!
I did wonder about going to Edge Hill Dave but didn't want to risk getting caught out at the wrong platform! The poor weather must have put plenty of people off.
Excellent vid Austin love that first location i arrived too late at the bank due to getting stuck in traffic near Salford Hospital..its a like..thanks Steve..
Yet another great video Austin of 6201 doing what she does best, putting on a great show as usual. The shot up MP is very atmospheric in the poor weather conditions. Dare I ask was there a hint of assistance up the bank with the diesel, there appeared to be plumes of exhaust although I may be totally wrong? Thanks for posting, Dave.
Thanks Dave, I'm pretty sure the diesel was only ticking over as she passed me but if she gave a shove at the start of the climb I would say it was only sensible given the wet rail conditions
Thanks very much. I was in two minds whether to go out for this when I saw the weather but as it didn't involve too long a journey thought I'd give it a go.
Always enjoy your work Austin - and great to catch your vid before work on Mon morning!!
Actually, I thought the angle of your shot for MP Bank made it more interesting. Very very impressive show of steady power up the bank with the equivalent of 14 on - faster than just about any other vid I have seen. Guess I just love steam engines!!!!
As per usual Christmas here is going to be ☀☀☀☀☀ ....
Thanks very much Hugh, I did have to adjust the shot at Miles Platting as I wanted to keep the camera as dry as possible and just using the wider angle allowed me to do that. It's a strange thought you watching this before work on Monday. Bet your weather is a little better too!
Austin, Excellent video in very wet weather conditions. The word was that Lizzie was coming up the inside track at Miles Platting so I stood on the left which rather compromised the shot. However the sound was terrific. Regards, John
@acw71000 I 2nd that, seeing as to how most of the mainline steamers struggled the first half of the year 6201 did not. The folks at the Tyseley Locomotive Works are doing an outstanding job maintaining her. I think the move from Crewe to Tyseley last year is the best thing that ever happened to Lizzie in a long time. I'm very glad that is where her overhaul next year shall be carried out.
Excellent Austin. I went to Whiston Station and saw someone with a brolly already at the end of the platform so went down the road. Great quality footage despite the weather and great to see her attacking the climb at Miles Platting. Have a good Christmas and New Year. Chris
Thanks Chris, yes, I was that nutter with the brolly. Did question my sanity this morning but I'm glad I went out now. Decided to just use a wider angle at Miles Platting as I was holding the brolly in my right hand so could just move the tripod arm with my left!
Thanks Tim, only made it to Miles Platting with ten minutes to spare because of heavy traffic, then had to hold brolly in right hand and manipulate camera with left so it didn't turn out too badly.
Two cracking shots in difficult/terrible conditions Austin, Lizzie made the climb out of Man Vic look easy even with the 47 on the back. Regards Steve
Thanks very much, same to you.

Brilliant video, loads of steam! Did the exhaust of the 47 indicate Lizzie was getting a shove in the bustle?

Possibly Alan, but it would have been the sensible thing to do given the wet rails. All the best for Christmas and New Year to yourself and family.
