I'm sooo glad he didn't kill jack. It would be extrememly emotional and heartbreaking to watch, and it would make for bad tv. Even for Criminal Minds-a show that often kills off children-that would've been crossing the line.The storyline of Hotch becoming a single parent is so much better than trying to go forward with a character that'd just lost his whole family.When i was watching this, i held my breath when hotch started beating the guy,and didn't let it out again until he opened the chest.

There is something very special about this episode. What grips me is the depth of emotion coming from Hotch, multilayered emotion. Thomas Gibson played this very well. And, while this episode will go down in history as the saddest (my opinion), I think it is also their best (again, my opinion).

But even funnier, when we were watching the episode together, our next-door neighbor came over and asked what the hell we were screaming about. We rewinded the fight scene and before we pressed play, she told us to back it up all the way. So we ended up watching the episode twice and addicting my neighbor at the same time.....

When Hotch told Jack over the phone that he needed him working the case, Jack knew exactly what that meant and he knew exactly where his daddy wanted him to be. Besides, CBS may like to ride the line, but they wouldn't kill off a little kid. They wouldn't survive the season, the show would die.

Lol, actually, I'm a big fan of the series, thanks to my roommate. They've killed off little kids before, and they'd just killed off a big character. And who's to say Foyet hadn't found Jack and made him hide somewhere else? I find it hard to believe he didn't look for Jack in the time between Haley's death and Hotch's arrival. And it wasn't until Jack was found that we found out what "working the case" meant.

We are in agreement; characters like the Reaper are worthy of praise in how monstrous their portrayal is made. With that in mind, a story must trend careful or risk redundancy. The Reaper had nearly killed Hotch and murdered Haley is one of the most tortuous ways imaginable. His arc concluded and nothing he could attempt would benefit the show's story.
