I have a medical alert dog.. my medical disability is INVISIBLE. Nobody would ever know I have a medical problem unless I said something. It's nobody's business. Don't accuse everyone of being a "fraud".I have tags and service vests so that I don't get harassed when I go into stores and restaurants. I don't need people bothering me and reminding me of my problem when I'm eating or entering Target. I want to go about my day normally. DO NOT ASK US WHAT OUR DISABILITY IS!!! It's incredibly rude
For too many, this "Psychiatric Service Dog" business is a scam done to be able to take their dog anywhere. Just buy a vest and you're good to go. As this gets overdone, the people that NEED their dogs for actual "service" will get shut out.
@MzPlaneta Wow that's an ignorant statement. You should probably do some research before posting wrong information. There are many steps a dog and his/her owner has to go through to be a PSD. One simply can't buy a vest and when a service dog is working in public, there are papers the owner has which some shop owners ask for to make sure the dog is registered.
@hohum891 Want to move into an apartment or condo complex that bans dogs? BUY a PSD vest. Want to fly with a large dog that would otherwise be put into the cargo hold? BUY a PSD vest. These were two examples used when I checked out a vest seller's website. Very fancy and official-looking "papers" come with the vest, too. It would be an entirely different thing if an honest and qualified doctor had to evaluate the patient and "prescribe" these.
I have vests and tags (and doctor note)so that I will not be bothered or asked questions when I enter an establishment. They make our lives easier. I don't need to be hassled. The vest clearly shows I have a service dog, I am entitled to go about my day like a normal human being without being questioned. That is the ORIGINAL reason for the vests, so we don't get hassled! I don't give a shit about fake service dogs, to each their own. If it works, good for them.

@hohum891 Oh absolutely they can PAY to get the vest and "papers". It's being abused and you know it! Is it your company selling them?

@hohum891 One more thing ~ the website reminded us all that "mental" issues aren't visible ~ making it far easier to claim a false need.
