i can't understand how anyone can compare this music to these so-called "prog gods" who are in fact just kitsch from the 70's whose pretentiousness seems really laughable today, while king crimson have created and do still create timeless music, far from the usual prog rock clichés
@xenantaya Let's just say K. C. is the most influential Prog band for one huge reason: Mr Fripp surrounded himself with multiple class A musician that shared his vision of the year (sometimes years) and brought different musical ideas to his table. Hence the multiple line ups and styles.
While the other 70's Prog bands, stuck to only a few members that after decades of playing together ran out of options to offer to each other.
I would better think that Crimson has to do something with light in a sense that KC helps to get a liberated state of mind. They play very meditative music. (And I don't especially mean this song. Meditation does not demand airy melodies.) One must work hard with modern Crimson materials but the result is mindfulness and peace. Just my 2 cents :)
I don't like to label everything, but i can say that i saw them last time in the Power to Believe Tour in 2003 and i guess that is has been so far the best concert i have seen in my life (and i saw many)
king crimson is just out of this world musically. so good. it was sweet, pat mastelletto came to the music college im in, and did a little clinic. a little dissapointing in some ways, but still pretty sweet
I'm not comparing at all, I just said how Tool and PT came in to my life a few years ago, and this was great for me, because after years and years of hearing same bands like Krimson, Floyd, Yes, etc, it was good at least for me to hear something new and ORIGINAL, which now a days is something rare to find!!!
I was so in to this and frances the mute, until tool came into my life and just when I thought it couldn't get any better, I met porcupine tree a couple of years ago.
@veryintricated hey dude you are so confused.... KING CRIMSON ARE FAR AHEAD OF ANY OTHER PROGRESSIVE BAND. THEY COME FROM ANOTHER DIMENSION. Tool are good, Porcupine Tree are better. BUT YOU CANNOT COMPARE ANYONE TO THE GOD. AND THE PROGRESSIVE GODS ARE ONLY THE KING CRIMSON. enough spoken..
@norsunny calling elp modern classical music is really ridiculous, do you have any clue about what really happened in 20th century classical music? how can you compare these? not every keyboard virtuoso is a classical composer
Christ! That's good. Very good

King Crimson has progressed so much over the years, it's a shame Gentle Giant and other progressive bands haven't stayed around this long.

@norsunny King Crimson or Tool don't fall into any other genre of music to me. The ideals they express are so original along with their sound.
