  • Incredible footage. Well done, the activity past 3 minutes is unbelievable considering the tsunami originated thousands of miles away.

  • Pretty cool video. Mother earth is amazing.

  • i would take a jet boat and have some fun!

  • I would jet ski like crazy in that!

  • the birds are having a wild ride.

  • :O Thats all I can say

  • Its just getting bigger and bigger :o then it recedes which is the sign of the tsunami hitting :O

  • Its just getting bigger and bigger :o

  • When the Water goes out... that shit is so scary !

  • “Tide goes in, tide goes out. Never a miscommunication. You can’t explain that. You can’t explain why the tide goes in...The water, the tide—it comes in and it goes out. It always goes in, then it goes out...You can’t explain that! You can’t explain it!!”

  • WILSON !!!!!

  • Look at the birds swirling around in the water :P

  • @smartercat THATS SO FUNNY!!

  • i was born there

  • thisz is were i liveeee! i saw this live todayyy, march 11 after the japan earthquake!

this is an old video of last yr

  • Pretty amazing footage.... the power behind the ebb and flow is awesome. Can you post at 4x speed?

Horrifying what this looked like in Japan today..

  • Those seagulls ain't even trippin.

@kycruisecrazy unfortunately a few people are missing from todays tsunami.

Idiot decided to 'film' it. Hopefully the find the footage. :)

  • I hope this mornings tsunami wasn't too bad. News reports say it was bad. I hope no one is hurt.

  • Incredibly instructive video. Thanks for sharing! I hope you made one for this years tsunami.

  • For those saying this isn't a tsunami: Please do yourself a favor and go study wave science. Tsunamis rarely (if ever) come in as the stereotypical big breaking wave and almost always just appear as a large surge of water as we see in this video. You can clearly see the water get sucked out to sea and surge back into the harbor, a clear sign of a tsunami. It took about 20 seconds of video time, therefore was about 6-7 minutes real time. Obviously way too fast to just be a tidal wave.

  • this shit is wack...this is only low tide and high tide...not a tsunami!!!!..and plus..if it really was a tsunami..then why is those commercial crab boats still going out to sea???answer that??and plus...we never had a tsunami that last 3 hours..i mean c'mon..i've lived here for 7 or 8 years and it never happen...but im not gonna jynx it tho and yeah the only thing that we keep on having now adays is earthquake and it was 1.8 or something like that only..but other then that...nope..not a tsunami

  • @leevwj4

In the case of a tsunami everyone is gonna want to get their boats out of the harbor and into the open ocean to prevent them from getting damaged... you've lived in cc for 7-8 years and dont know that?

I do agree with you that it was a weak tsunami though

  • @booyadan16 well ofcourse i knoe that...but that boat is going in and out of the harbor like nothing happen...i mean c'mon.....

  • @leevwj4 This is indeed footage of the tsunami generated by the M8.8 earthquake in Chile. The visible effects are amplified by the way the video is sped up; further, note the time stamp: the tide doesn't go in and out every 15-20 minutes. Also, note the birds. They aren't floating there for a full 6 hours, which would be the length of time between tidal cycles. The video was shot by an HSU professor and earthquake/tsunami expert. This isn't an amateur study.

  • @ehhaley dude.i mean.c'mon..don't you knoe that the video is being fast forward and plus..those seagulls ain't gonna stay in one spot and float thier..there more energetic then you think they are...i knoe cause i lived here and i beat the fuck out of the one that fly by and bomb me...as in take a shit ..you knoe and ..they move alot more then what you think and.we just had a tsunami this past week..so go check it out..and you'll knoe the difference between a fake one like this...from a real one

  • awesome video, nice work.

  • That was amazing..... The wonder of nature

  • I live in Crescent City, in the 60's we had a tsunami that went to the center of our town, this wasn't as bad but it did cost 2 million dollars to repair our harbor. Unfortunatley, once a tsunami hit's a place it will reaccure. The scariest part is hearing the siren and having to evacuate. All ATM machines shut down and all business close, so you better have gas in your car. We were blessed that this wasn't one that damaged our town again.

  • @daisydawn10 it was 1964 i have a friend that was in that tsunami

  • @zuko1590 thank you for the imfo. i couldn't recall what year that was. I'm glad your friend is okay, it must have been scary for him/her. have a great day and God Bless.

  • well umm i dont get how dis is a tidal wave and this is NOT a tsunami.... give me a breakk!

  • @cupcake749 it don't seem like much but there was over a two million dollars in damages i know i live there

  • Crescent City - and Hawaii - got off easy this time. But big tsunami waves will strike again someday. And they'll be dangerous, unlike the small surges we had with this event.

  • was there seriously a tsunami in california recently? I liv in southern ca. THEBASSGUY 1 said it flooded the streets. isnt this a lie

  • Maybe its the tide?

  • Awesome vid, so dramatic despite such a small wave.

  • i spotted the tsunami when the water got rlly dirty. tht was the first wave. but down here in southern california it came up to the streets and flooded them

  • that's my parents' sailboat that appears near the end! :)

  • @quitelywait not true

  • just looks like high and low tides lol

  • An excellent demonstration of the cyclic nature of a tsunami.

Why do most films show just one or two giant waves, all in the space of 30 to 60 min? Of course, they inundate everything. Is it a function of distance from the epicenter, or bottom features along any given shoreline?

I lost count of how many cycles are in the three hours of your video, The deepest ebb seemed to be around 5:30

  • @RnBramwell you are so dumb

  • I can't help but wonder about the apparent disconnect between public safety...and the SoCal media. NOAA in Oxnard issued the advisory...yet the major TV networks(except CNN)never got the word out. Same deal last Aug. 31-The Station fire blew up on a weekend...and local TV just wasn't there(instead doing sports, cartoons, and infomercials).I've heard(first-hand)that Long Beach harbor didn't inform the shift changes...which is amazing considering the shallow draft at that terminal. Incredible video.

  • Awesome footage. I can't wait to start studying under you at HSU. See ya in the fall
