i just took most of the day redoing my 12 string --gotta say it was worth it-who knew there were as many types of mandolin as banjo's--thanks--exept--my fingers realy hurt now
@Nza420 that's okay. At least you're not one of those guys who replies nastily when you say something perfectly reasonable. By the way, I did not say that because I put black shoe polish in my hair because I don't.
@broadswordbeast It must have been really late, and I must have been on the edge of consciousness when I made the comment. Alas, 'twas not a nice thing to say, regardless.
may i ask, is this a hard instrument to play, i am not trying to find an easy way out to music but, i have tried instruments and i suck at them, any input on what stringed instrument i should play would be appreciated :)
@Ninjadude404 pick up the bouzouki. amazing instrument. alot of fun. its gonna take a while for u to learn but dont give up on the bouzouki or any instrument for that matter. practice makes perfect
@kalchr Haha, no problem. Irish is quite hard! The only reason I said it really is because "Tiocfaidh ár lá" carries connotations of rebellion and all the troubles in the north. It's a shame that that's the phrase that travels farthest and is most associated with Ireland. (the phrase is also used by the political party Sinn Féin)
Hey there, loving you videos, im thinking of getting a bouzouki but can you tell me if there's a difference between Celtic and Irish Bouzouki? Just noticed you use two different names for them:)
einai ontws ephreasmeno apo to ellhniko bouzouki kai einai metagenesterhs morfhs, alla onomazetai kai auto etsi -bouzouki den einai mono auto pou akous sta garoufalla kai sta piatadika..
Hey rivieredom, this is ace!! You are one of the main reasons I have ordered myself a bouzouki... I can't wait!! Your videos show some excellent playing... And there are lots of good ones out there... I will be learning some tunes off you all... Youtube is such a good idea, allowing us to learn instruments in a new version of the old folk style of "passing it on", like the best old stories. Peace!!
Thank you for sharing these songs on the Irish bouzouki. It inspired me to buy this instrument and now I play some of your songs. Playing mandolin I had to learn the songs on it while I waited for the bouzouki to arrive. Tuning the bouzouki in EADG, like the mandolin, allowed me to connect the dots. I absolutely enjoy your music. Thank you, Glenn
a real pleasure to listen and watch way out ahead of the rest we need more irish bouzouki music available or music played on the irish bouzouki and similar instruments Thank You
I'd never even heard of this instrument until I was reading a Loreena McKennitt DVD liner that told which musical instruments her enormously talented musicians play. That was nice.
hi there. im 19 and i have played greek bouzouki since i was 8 until 17. I recently started again with a passion to learn and watching your video here has inspired me to try and play some celtic songs.
This reminds me of some of the heavy metal bands I'm into. They blend acoustic folk music into overly distorted heavy metal riffing to create a genre known as "folk metal" or "celtic metal"
You sir have not heard much folk metal then. The pioneers of the celtic metal genre (cruachan) are good at being what you said but bands like Eluveitie are managing to develop a good, original sound. There are many folk metal bands that don't have such a corny sound, you just have to find them.
@LGrey8 Nope it isnt.. Look at Eluveitie for example.. Thats a totally new genre and every kind of medival metal (as sub-genre of folkmetal) is also something different, something new ;)
beautiful music dom when are you going to upload the rest of the video's of you playing the bouzouki on here your website has like 3 more video's. also is there any chance you would be willing to cover greensleeves on your bouzouki would love to hear it on them just havent located a video yet
i love celtic instruments, im considering buying one of those, any idea how much a simple but good sounding bouzouki cost ? i live in the netherlands so ill have to find a store somewhere :D
Cheap one is around 400$ (not sure of the conversion). As with any instrument that is "not popular" and is made out of wood the better ones or name brand will cost you. I'm going to get one myself!
He reminds me of Harvey Keitel. I think his music rocks ass wicked hard. I write my own music and always try to follow my muse, hoping it will take me in the direction of this kind of music.
