The new Thinlines are good. I almost bought one. Now that Lollar and some other guys are building or 'spec-ing those Wide-Range pickups, it is more than possible some of these out-perform the later vintage originals. Some of the late '70s specimens are junk (does Fender make an American Thinline reissue?)
I have one of these, and I reckon it's got a great sound for jazz/fusion. To be honest it's not a beatifully finished guitar, (typical 70's Fender?) but I love the sound of it. I haven't played another guitar that I can get that mellow-yet-bright sound from.
cool

1978 AND 1979 were two great year's of the 70's for rock n roll and the Fender guitar!

Hey man nice playing!
I'm considering buying one 72 thinline, but instead of using the fender humbuckers I'm considering putting some Gibson 57 pickups, will this work????
Thanks
andrew4773 1 year ago
@andrew4773 youll need a converter kit because the wide band pickups are bigger than normal humbuckers.
birdiejoehoaks 1 year ago
@andrew4773 definately, just buy a pickguard that fits humbuckers
