  • Roy Dean is the Man! Now I see why his BJJ is so smooth and stylish!! Congrats

  • Well done!

  • Now that seems like the most practical Aikido I have seen. Nice

  • The best aikido I have ever seen.

  • awesome.

  • beautiful fluid techniques! bravo!

  • Very good and excellent technique :)

  • i have seen many aikido practice movies.

    many!

this is probably the best ever!

smooth, fast, flowting and very authentic from my humble

    perspective.

this does not look like a dance as usual.

the uke not like a dummy.

    this is transcendental.

    thx for sharing this.

  • @tomtrash

sorry for double post, but i have to add, that the video itself is very, very good

    and scene-cutting is awsome.

    thx

  • Well done and I understand why Sensei became Uke for a time. Some technique you can judge by observation and other technique must be felt.

  • look how good this is

  • Nice

  • Not complaining, but I can't understand why the Sensei became an Uke in this demonstration.

  • @IFoundMyUsername Maybe it was to see if their techniques were effective. Sometimes uke's just go along for the ride :P

  • Usually tall guys have a hard time with a shorter uke, but this guy blends in with the attacks very well. Very nice!!!

  • Nice.

No 'ushiro' techniques (ushiro ryote dori, ushiro eri dori, ushiro kata dori kubishime, ...) ?

  • someone really got good techniques there. not bad at all.

  • Very nice test - be careful in the randori not to step backwards, but otherwise very good.

  • Great demonstration!

  • are there ways to defend yourself in Aikido if someone were to kick you?

  • @ishvara88 Yes, however, rarely are they usually practice because its hard to land safely and recover from the fall of a kick.

  • @ishvara88

Yes, to front kicks, side kicks...

and trying a fly kick at an aikidoka would be just too stupid

  • fantastic technique. great body positioning and form in seiza. great work.

  • aikido techniques doesn't exert more effort ...that's what we called soft attacks ...aikido is a soft way on how to throw people and to have a counter attack in a minimum effort but in maximum effect

  • Nice vdeo good editing, good movements. I can't believe 11 people disliked this video, whats not to like, very well done :)

  • @riastradh2 they failed in the test

  • super!!!!nice moves/

    thank you for video

  • Congratulations, nice nice demonstration.

    Alex Aikido.

  • I've just started learning this marital art. It's very interesting as it doesn't start from any strikes, but with safe landing and rolls.

  • @CootPrankCalls true that !

  • Excelente examen, 1 Dan de taquito.

  • class!!

  • cuando sea grande quiero ser como tu

  • Beautifully done, although just one thing kept sneaking out at me. The lurching forward of the shoulders to complete many of the techniques and breaking of shizentai, additionally no tsugi ashi to complete the techniques. I've always seen that dynamic movement as a key principal in Aikido from ground level to advanced.

  • wth he won everyone in that room

  • Truly impressive technique! It was fast, yet it looked clean. This seems to be a well deserved passing grade on your exam. What a great video. Keep up the awesome work!

  • Sensei is wearing shoes?

  • @Platysoma well i guess, those are tabis...

  • Roys level of control is truely above and beyond.

  • very ninja my friend

  • hi roy its awsome and at the same time very painfull

  • Woah...I really need to get myself going if I'm to learn this O.o (going to a aikido school this simester)

  • Now thats real Aikido! That realy was great to watch, you can wear the (funny plack pants) with pride. Your technique was very clean and clear for a big man, well done i say, i loved it!

  • @robbieatvic Exactly I've seen big men practrice Aikido and it's very hard for them because of their height, but This guy did it very well

  • @Platysoma That is not true . Look at Steven Seagal who is 7th degree black belt and a shihan in aikido . Does he look small ?

  • On november i am going to do my first exam and the first technique i have to do. :D

  • how pro is this guy????

  • Awesome! Well done man, congrats!

  • Excelente examen! Yo rendí el negro hace un año, pero me da verguenza recordarlo pues, no cumplí con mi conviccción de hacer las cosas de la única forma aceptable ( hacerlas bien ) Así que, gracias por este video!

    Pablo.

  • great ukemi!

  • exelente Aikidoka!!

  • Very nice.

  • f-in awesome

  • Could anyone enlighten me as to how long it typically takes to reach Shodan in Aikikai? Is it time based like other Aiki ryu or is it based on how fast the individual masters the techniques?

  • @Delmo67 At my dojo we have a certain minimum amount of classes you have to attend and then test for the rank. I think it's all in accordance to how Aikikai set it up. Depending on how often you practice, I think seven years is a realistic number. Some do it quicker, but most 1kyu at my dojo have been at it for six years.

  • @Delmo67

Depends on how much time you dedicate to it, like most art. I've been studying for a year and a half now and I have my shodan test at the end of the month. :)

  • @Delmo67 5 years ish. But yeah it depends on the individual.

  • @Delmo67 About 5 years. Aikido is usually the hardest form to master.

  • Wow! this is what I am aiming at. I mean the quality of your aïkido, not necessarely to be shodan.

  • Yes that guy is very good! He deserves it! All techniques where beautifly done!!

  • wonderful! this guy indeed deserves the promotion. the sensei must be an exceptional teacher.

  • wonderful. he deserve to it. all the techniques are executed beautifully

  • Молодец!!! Только вот маленькие зачем,дали бы таких же громил как сам претендент на пояс..

  • that guy is...really tall, look at his size when he's on his knees. i think he's 6 ft 3 inches at least. good technic, nice demo

  • good work. Effective test and good sense of aiki. Congratulations to the teacher and the students

  • beautiful,just beautiful!

  • Nice work man. Keep moving and good luck!

    (bow)

  • beautiful

  • nice. Clear and strong. Gratulations.

  • beautiful moves very good talent well done

  • He's really good! Well done!

  • Amazing Job... Great work... 5 stars

  • Very Clean and swift with no useless movements

  • you're right! that's great!

  • @DasCrimson aikido is very efective techics, you watch "samurai spirit aikido"

  • Tori is huge compared to his Uke's.

  • Great workout! Was this a test for a promotion?

  • Nice moves and fast show. Perfect and thanks

  • Great form .

  • Roy is the man, awesome BJJ and Aikido with kool music as well !!!!!!!

  • What exactly is Aikikai in comparison to the average aikido?

  • Aikikai is the original and still biggest organisation for Aikido, official authorized 1940 by the Japanese government.

So you could say the Aikikai Aikido is the original Aikido.

  • Aikikai is average Aikido... Aikikai is the original style, we follow O Sensei's grandson, Moriteru Ueshiba.

  • he is good 5 stars :)

  • Pese a que sí haya federación, el aikido no es propiamente un deporte porque no hay competición alguna.

    saludos ;)

  • Well done!!!!

  • dobra szkoła

  • best grading on u tube.

  • smooth. you certrainly deserve it. congrats!

  • Nice exam

  • Good exam. Love the energy level.

  • Great, an inspirational for those who wants to mix martial arts, he shows that you can have a good Aikido an pratice others like BJJ or JUDO

  • That was a phenomemol demonstration of proper Aikido Technique. And what an inspiration to the younger generation new to the essence of Aikido. Great job and Congratulations.

  • Thanks man and congratulations, really inspiring stuff

  • nice!!!congratulation

  • awesome test! congrats!

  • This white belt looks like he can really take care of himself in the street. Very impressive! What's your teacher's name and website? Regards.

  • I dont think his rank is white belt.. looks like a test to me. I didnt do any of these moves until much later in my training but then again not all dojos are the same. Aikido was very impressive though regardless of rank.

  • Most Aikido schools maintain a white belt for the first five ranks, and then you get a black belt when you complete your shodan test (which is what this looks to be).

  • I became an Akikai Aikido Shodan back in '98 and started BJJ just this October.

Roy, your vids are truly inspirational to me.

    Keep up the good work!

    Love the music as well!

    Franco from Manila.

  • How many Black Belts thus Toribio has?

  • 4 or 5

  • Grandmaster (Kancho) - Seibukan Jujutsu

    5th Dan - Akikai Aikido

10th Dan - Bujinkan Budo Taijustu

10th Dan - Enshin Itto Ryu Batto Jutsu (Sword Art)

7th Dan - Hakko Ryu Jujutsu

2nd Dan - Okinawan Kempo Karate

These are the ones I know about, with a little help for exactly what levels from a slightly outdated Wikipedia. Toribio Kancho is truely a gifted martial artist.

  • Roy Dean is a good martial artist. Not only does he know Aikido but also trains in BJJ. I true realist of martial arts.

  • what can i say excellent form u done good.
