I realized this song is telling a story, the chorus tells what happens 'Know they don't want me to stay' The other parts are details. "Dirty on the ground/grass" is something significant, probably something to do with the experience that inspired the song. Unfortunately only the writer of the song knows the full story.

It's really just the one line as far as I can tell, and that really is a commonly used expression. Even so, the timing IS too close, so it is irritating. If it was released like, a few more months later, no one would have noticed. In any case, I didn't care for that OneRepublic track at all, it didn't have the heart some of their other tracks have, and felt like it was just a cash flow pushed teeny bopper chart topper attempt.
