@dipta64 an AR-15 is the legal version for civilian use. it cant go full auto. you need a special permit to go full auto on any weapon i think. the M16 is military used and it CAN go full auto.

The AR stands for Armalite, they are the original designers of that weapon, only the military calls it an M-16 and theirs have a 3 round burst mode and are a hell of alot more durable than these semi-auto civilian models, that is NOT an M-16, just a "clone".

Its very inexpensive final cost was around $350. I work for the L.A. police force so thats another way im able to get the firearms i have.

i own a DPMS AR15 and a Romanian WASR AK47, love them both for different reasons, AR is more accurate, more of a surgical tool, AK is more of a get the job done no matter what weapon.
I treat my AK with the respect it deserves, but it can handle a LOT more abuse and still fire.

I'd go with an AK, 74 ideally. If you shoot enough rounds at it you'll hit it eventually. Especially if you had 8 other guys in your squad shooting with you. In a "war war", an AR type is a huge pain in the ass to maintain. If you lose that firing pin retaining pin in the field, you're done.

The SOP where I'm at says that field-level maintanence for the M4 (like in a patrol base) requires no disassembly of the BCG. You know why? Because too many people have lost the firing pin retaining pin. Just the fact that the part is so small is the stupidity of the design. You need pipe cleaners and q-tips to clean the bolt. I've seen ISAF clean AKs with rags and motor oil.

I prefer the AK-74, it's just as accurate, if not more deadly, because the Red Army in the 1970's, put a hollow space in the tip of the bullet, causing it to tumble violently upon impact. That's the 5.45x39 cartridge. If you have an AK-47 (7.62x39), use a recoil buffer, that really helps the climb and recoil. I have 2 AK's and an RPK, and they all have recoil buffers and muzzle brakes, and they have very little recoil than before. You will see the difference.

The AK is also a combat rifle. The Mosin Nagant is still being used and it has been around longer than the Mauser. Also the AK can stand up against water and sand way better than what the Mauser can.

Yes, its the perfect battle rifle. Its not inaccurate at all as long as you're shooting under 100 yards. You can shoot up to 437 yards accurately with the AK. The AK was made to be able to shoot like a smg but, have the power of a rifle. Thats what its best at. Packing a punch at medium range distances.
Yeah I am not going to argue if the AR-15 has better accuracy. Thats not up for debate. The AK is closer to a machine gun and the AR is closer to a rifle. If I had to storm a building I would chose an AK. If I had to shoot someone from across a field and I was in war I would choose the AR.

If someone is going to buy or owns an AK-47 they should know that its known for its reliability and durability not its accuracy. I love both guns but I think I tend to favor the AR, I'm more about the distance.

I remembered when I only try to own one or two calibers at a time, then sometimes I like the 9mm, then I like the .45, then I like the .308, then I like a .223, the solution....buy it one by one then buy a nice Big Gun Safe...I guarranty you...it's a lot of fun...now I own the most common calibers...22LR, 9mm, .40S&W, .45 ACP, .223, 7.62X39, .308 and a 12 gauge Shotgun...damn I'm so happy with them either at home or in the Range...NO MORE sleepless nights thinking what is good...Happy at last.
I own both of them, and I like both of them, it's a like having an American Chick and a Russian Chick, if I carry them, maybe I'll alternate it everyday, stop the argue, get both of them, it's like argueing between .45 and .40, never ending, get all those Calibers and shoot them regularly till you master them. The M16 has a longer range, it's longer than the AR-15, It can go auto-matic, and semi.
The AR-15, in our case, is basiclly an M4A1. It's smaller, has an adjustable stock, and it CAN go auto depending on which one you have.

I'd go with an AK, 74 ideally. If you shoot enough rounds at it you'll hit it eventually. Especially if you had 8 other guys in your squad shooting with you. In a "war war", an AR type is a huge pain in the ass to maintain. If you lose that firing pin retaining pin in the field, you're done.

An AR is not a "huge pain to maintain in the field." I carried one in Iraq (which was a "war war") and fired it a lot. I cleaned it reguraly. I had never one misfire or jam. Hmmm.. you must be right , since you are the end-all be-all expert on war experiences and tactical doctrine and TTPs. The SOP where I'm at says that field-level maintanence for the M4 (like in a patrol base) requires no disassembly of the BCG. You know why? Because too many people have lost the firing pin retaining pin. Just the fact that the part is so small is the stupidity of the design. You need pipe cleaners and q-tips to clean the bolt. I've seen ISAF clean AKs with rags and motor oil.

Well consider yourself very lucky. In my squad alone, we had two extractor springs, a gas tube, and 2 sets of gas rings that needed to be replace after they caused malfunctions.

actually in a way you are both right and wrong. sure more lead in the air will keep thier heads down. but well aimed shots will put them down for good. I never said I was a tactical expert, I am merely trying to say that well aimed fire is more effective than spray and pray, suppresive fire as we know it in the army. oh and on the weapon problems...that could very easliy have been improper cleaning or normal wear and tear...shit happens. adapt.

And the military is adapting. Why do you think we tested the XM8? Why was the SCAR picked up? Why did the Marines adopt that piston AR? Because the M4 is inferior in the aspect of reliability compared to the majority of other modern firearms. "that could have been improper cleaning or normal wear" Considering how cleaning the gas tube and disassembling the bolt are neither level 1 tasks, it wasn't an operator issue. The parts wore out early because we used as little lube as needed, due to sand.

I think the fact that I am quoting you is a pretty good indication that I am. My point isn't that soldiers lose parts or to argue tactics. The fact that the M4 has a strict parts replacement schedule and critical components measured in millimeters are weaknesses in the design. What's the first part that needs to be replaced in an AK, SIG55X, FAL, or Galil? Probably the barrel after 15,000 rounds. Not an ejector claw, gas ring, or spring. When soldiers carry an extra bolt into combat, WTF?

I prefer the AK-74, it's just as accurate, if not more deadly, because the Red Army in the 1970's, put a hollow space in the tip of the bullet, causing it to tumble violently upon impact. That's the 5.45x39 cartridge. If you have an AK-47 (7.62x39), use a recoil buffer, that really helps the climb and recoil. I have 2 AK's and an RPK, and they all have recoil buffers and muzzle brakes, and they have very little recoil than before. You will see the difference.

I don't really wiki anything. If I didn't know something I sure as fuck wouldn't listen to such an unreliable source such as Wiki. Also they have milled reiceivers and stocks that are milled. The AK is also a combat rifle. The Mosin Nagant is still being used and it has been around longer than the Mauser. Also the AK can stand up against water and sand way better than what the Mauser can.

Yes, its the perfect battle rifle. Its not inaccurate at all as long as you're shooting under 100 yards. You can shoot up to 437 yards accurately with the AK. The AK was made to be able to shoot like a smg but, have the power of a rifle. Thats what its best at. Packing a punch at medium range distances.

Yeah I am not going to argue if the AR-15 has better accuracy. Thats not up for debate. The AK is closer to a machine gun and the AR is closer to a rifle. If I had to storm a building I would chose an AK. If I had to shoot someone from across a field and I was in war I would choose the AR.

Let's all enjoy our Guns, Oh what a Beauty to have the opportunity to buy weapons and own them, damn the best enjoyment we get...one thing though is to clean your weapons regularly...that's my hard part ...cleaning it each time..you fire 500 rounds or 5 rounds..you still have to clean it...it's like having a PET, it requires your time...of course clean guns shoots better and more accurate.I love the AKs and the ARs, it's like a spoon and fork, can't get a decent meal without them.

I remembered when I only try to own one or two calibers at a time, then sometimes I like the 9mm, then I like the .45, then I like the .308, then I like a .223, the solution....buy it one by one then buy a nice Big Gun Safe...I guarranty you...it's a lot of fun...now I own the most common calibers...22LR, 9mm, .40S&W, .45 ACP, .223, 7.62X39, .308 and a 12 gauge Shotgun...damn I'm so happy with them either at home or in the Range...NO MORE sleepless nights thinking what is good...Happy at last.
