  • cute and logical but you leave out a major factor. what's logical lto us is definately not on parr with god's logic.if you're looking for dark the world can be very dark. if your lookin for light more power to ya..

  • A very astute question I'd never considered! Did the writers and translators have free will or not? Then, IF man is so 'fallen,' the Bible CAN'T be the inerrant, accurate word of god! And god clearly didn't intend for us to know what its words would be, IF that whole tower of Babel thing really happened.

    Well done.

  • @ReligiousFiction I must say out of all the responses I have gotten, yours is the most interesting

  • christian beliefs have no foundation in reality

  • The bible is a spiritual book, and unless your spirit is born again from above it will remain a mystery to you, a closed book, becuase it says that no one will ever find God thruogh earthly wisdom it says God made sure of it

  • Sorta like the Muslims, Allah made those that are deaf to Him, a paraphrase. I am sure if I pushed it I could find something similar in the Christian Bible. Since the Koran is plagiarized from the Jews and Christians.

  • its so much better to have somthing and not know what its called or how it works,

then to NOT have it and know how it works , what am i talking about its a little tihng called SALVATIONNNNNNNNNN !!!!!!

  • @chrstianmom

By 'salvation' do you mean 'confidence that you won't be subjected to pain and burning and torture and agony forever and ever until the end of time'?

Nobody is impressed by your desire to avoid punishment. You can call it glorious but I call it cowering before the angry threats of a sadistic god.*

*Actually hell isn't really in the bible, but so many Christians seem to love the idea of everyone they disagree with being tortured forever that it persists. I wonder why!

  • @scarshapedstar let me as you somthing why would i as a christian actually desire for there to be a Hell? knowing the chances are i myself could fall short and end up there why would anynone as a matter of fact write a book that will totally give rules on how to think, talk walk, act .

  • @scarshapedstar no its called human instinct and im not confident on self preservation but when he chose to save me and called me i didnt say no to God like so many others do. i came to christ becuase of the love he showed me i didnt go to him out of fear f hell never entererd my mind but he did flood my life with his presence. his love his blessings,

  • @scarshapedstar let me as you somthing why would i as a christian actually desire for there to be a Hell? knowing the chances are i myself could fall short and end up there why would anynone as a matter of fact write a book that will totally give rules on how to live walk , talk think. i dnt think anyman who loves freedom would.

  • @scarshapedstar the nature of man longs for freedom to be ruler of his life so why would some write a book.. with God the supreme deity and rulerunles he wrote it .and we have been giving a choice to believe or not to belive but with both choices there are consequences wether you chooose to believe or not it still remains the same. life or death eternal life with God or eternal death separated from him

  • Umm ya, He does love us. It's not Him that sends us to Hell at all. It's our sin. Hell wouldn't really exist if we hadn't begun sin. Now there's a choice, of course. There's also a choice in evolution. Do I believe in it or not? At least if I believe in religion, I know that something loves me and I'm not a tool of some fish-monkey-frog-squirrel's offspring.

  • as I understand the doctrine, us mere humans are sinners when we are born, why? I don't know, it certainly can't be because mom and dad had sex, since hypotheticlly God made Adam and Eve and told them to go forth and propogate and I suspect God would know exactly what's involved for people to propogate, so if people do as God commands, how is that a sin? nd why is that sin passed on to the child?

  • You completely misunderstand the whole point of Christianity. MAKING people worship you has no glory...but when people CHOOSE to worship and praise you, then it is far more glorious.

  • ahhh yes the "Choice", love and worship Him unconditionally or burn ins hell for eternity, which for some is what 1800 years so far, for maybe a 40 to 50 year life, and He "Loves" us.

  • Yes, you are wrong! These fundamentalists, who dont have a normal sence! It was written by Paul !

  • If you are going to talk about the Bible and Christians then perhaps you should get your facts straight. Aramaic ->Hebrew->Greek->Latin->English? Where did you get this? The vast majority of the OT was written in Hebrew and a very small portion of it was written in Aramaic. All of the NT is written in Greek.

While I think that Jezuzfreek777 did not refute the claim of "paulinism" all that well, you did an even worse job of refuting him!

  • Greek-Latin-German-English for that matter.

And quite right Phife54 it is a poor response, what makes it infuriating to me is that I wanted a concise definition of each... Not what we got at all.

Grimli: That tone of voice will never sway people toward either non-theism or simply from christianity in whatever form.

PEOPLE: Real christians live on the street and have no laptop computers with which to make thier defence here. Try talking to people + reading the books, then make a case.

  • I wasn't attempting to sway someone towards non-theism. I wanted to poke at a conservative christian and HOPEFULLY get him to lighten up. I don't pretend to have all the answers. I have a path I am on, he is on his own path. TOLERANCE should be the by word for every religion on this planet.

  • (glad someones got a 'path' ...i dont)

    Tolerance is right,

    Amen.

  • a lot of the good bible readers i know, take it as their job to learn different languages, you shouldn't trust anyone, any good ":christian:", will tell you, don't believe my word, look it up for yourself,

    [continued]

  • not interesting at all. God over saw the writing of the bible that he authored. God was in control of who wrote the bible and he also oversaw what they wrote. If the writer wrote things that contridict Gods word then God has the power to make sure that that writers words were not or are not recognized as Gods inspired word.

  • If your God is Omnipotent, why didn't he do a better job of writing the Bible. Why do so many people interpret it differently? That really makes no sense. Also, if that were true, why are there so many things in the Bible that no longer apply, aka Mosaic Code, etc.
