  • can anyone tell me if ozone5 allows a side chaining input? i can't find the info anywhere

  • I really like using the stereo imager in Ozone 4. Would that be appropriate in a mastering project if used subtly?

  • @directmusic94 I think your better off widening the individual tracks in the song..

  • My only critique is that the audio in the video was kinda low and there was talking over most of it, so it was really hard to hear the differences, especially considering they're subtle differences. Other than that, thanks for this. Mid/side EQ was always something I knew existed but never really understood how it was used.

  • Hello! In which file format should I mastering in wav or mp3?

  • @DJFireBear .wav

  • @teIVIp0 Okey thanks =)

  • i love you ..

  • A great tutorial, thanks! I learned a lot here. Only thing i wanted was to hear more of the comparison, i can't hear much of a difference. I'll try it out on some of my own stuff tho.

  • When is your online class and how do i join!?

  • This is just an amazing tutorial, the tracks sounds so much sweeter

  • You are a fantastic teacher bro - clear with gr8 knowledge. Step by step visuals are top quality. Rare mix on youtube. Good to get yr take on effective kick driven side-chaining in OZne 5 - subtle enough to correct timings in dance tracks for vynl.

  • ppl don't let this soft voice fool you 1 db bump is some bullshit

  • @mp3djbigj AGREED. rather make more compositions and songs than waste time on this bullshit

  • @Brianlee315 Then why watch a tutorial on mastering? I know what you're saying and i agree, i'd rather leave mastering on my tunes to a qualified engineer for many reasons. But this is a tutorial on mastering, why call it bullshit?

  • i love you....no homo

  • Dude...Sweeet.....bro....homie...dj dj

  • Amazing video, thanks!

  • I sincerely can't hear the difference

  • @YouNolf With a lot of the subtle differences youll only be able to hear it when you're playing it loud on headphones and when youre actually in the DAW. Im sure you heard the difference when he clicked the master bypass right?

  • These videos are really really great

  • @MrDjMykee just the master

  • This info is super valuable !

  • hot damn that turns me on. excellent video

  • so amazing, thank you

  • Dayum that sub at the beginning of the video..

  • SWEEEEEEEEEEET!!! This technique works like a charm, just those small adjustments improved my track SO MUCH

  • oooooh dude !!! Thank you very much ! Greetings from Czech Republic .D

  • Thank you very VERY much!

  • You have no idea how many people love you for this tutorial. You are great.

  • @rhymegarden Go back and re-install it, then make sure you've installed the 32 bit VST and the 64 bit VST, then drop both off in your VST folder, or do it one at a time and figure out which one suits your program the best, and then you'll be good to go. Now I had close to the same problem in Ableton, so I don't know how it works in your software, and I installed Ozone 5. So if all else fails you could e-mail Izotope and ask them how to do it.

  • Fantastic!

  • thanks man very helpful

  • thanks bro. very good tutorial

  • Thanks man...

  • Question, can you go back and use the stereo eq to eq again after? or should i just eq in the multiband dynamics section?

  • Dude...you are frickin AWESOME! These videos are da bomb diggity! I luv u

  • @quistuhpha Pretty much what he said! I had no idea about this trick and Iv'e been doing music and audio related stuff for a long time, over 15 years.

  • Great tutorial. I'm hoping to take classes at DubSpot next year!

  • I wish they had finacial aid for this class lol

  • This is fantastic.

  • this is great!

  • A lovely mastering tut!

  • Most helpful mastering I've seen on youtube. sweet !

  • thanks for all this information.

  • Very informative and succinct, appreciate the tutorial!

  • stupid question but isnt it possible to master using just ableton. some problems starting isotop on my mac i looked at the mastering section in ableton and it makes it sound better louder and reduce the dynamique. my sound wave looks like a mastered track im not sur about the sound :).another question: im taking sound engineering bachelor in norway and its more about studios, mics, recording and concert situation,im interested in electronic music does the students online get the same support ???

  • Thanks Alot!!! Very Helpful

  • Very Good thx alot !!! keep spreading the knowledge :D

  • Hi Daniel. Thanks for all the great info. Is there any instructional DVD that I can buy?

  • this is great, thank you dubspot!

  • Daniel and all the folks helping here: Thanks a lot

  • Hi Daniel. Thanks for the awesome tutorial. I must admit I can barely hear the difference between processed and non-processed sound, but definitely there is the difference. It's very subtle and it's something you can rather feel than hear.

  • thanks this is the best !

  • wow this is genius! seriously! thanks for this!

  • am i doomed for not hearing this differences?

  • I think your videos are informative, but you keep talking over the parts where you're bypassing and enabling your changes. It makes it nearly impossible to hear what you've done...

  • hi i am stefan from the netherlands. i also use ozone 4 for just a couple of months now,

    and have a few questions:

why do u bypass all the freq you just adjusted?

how do i know how to roll off some lows or mids or side freq's, since there are a lot of parameters?

why and when do i have to narrow some freq's? how do i know?

and also how do i know what value i add on those parameters???

this is a whole new way to eq and master for me....

    thank you very much!

  • wat mixing and mastering school is in nyc i been trying to find one not too outlandishly expensive but worth going to : )

  • Is this useful for dubstep music?

  • @croatianthug for any kind of music! is just to give more stereo sound and exdellent sound sensation.

  • I listened with headphones and didn't hear any difference when you clicked bypass with the m/s stuff. but heard a difference in the ozone bypass at the end. maybe its the way it was recorded, but the changes in stereo imaging weren't audible for me. and im an engineer i swear :D I got a diploma to prove it :D

  • thank you for your job , very cool :)

  • I need help mixing vocals with it... help

  • SWEET!! I just subsribed to your channel!!!!

  • great info. Thank you

  • I realy like the tricks,thx...

  • mindboggling

  • I can't hear the difference. I need new headphones bad -.-

  • i hate reading books. thanks.

  • wow!

  • Wicked cheers mate more more more :-)))))

  • thanks for the great tutorial.

theres a multi band stereo imaging mode in ozone 4.

would you add a little stereo widening with the multiband and then also use this M/s technique or would it be more a case of one or the other?

massive thanks if you find the time to reply to this.

    regards

    Paul

  • Can you make a Tutorial for House Music like deadmau5 or swedish House Mafia style? Where is a Lot of melodies and synth.

  • @xXScharnierklaengeXx They are composing their melody by themselvs. Not sampling or looping. Get daw that has nice piano roll and automation , and synth that generate nice noise. Then compose in it and automate the synth parameters. You'll get huge variations of sound. You can do all of them in your computer. The rest is up to you.

  • I think these tutorials are all excellent, but many of the tutorials use very uninteresting, somewhat empty-feeling musical tracks. I wish we could see this active on more engaging music, and see a larger difference.

  • please us all the magical prcesses they do!! i love all ur vids

  • very good tutorial thank you soooo much : )

  • Very informative, some info for the on-line course would be greatly appreciated!

  • very nice tutorial, this convinces me to take a course

  • can this be good with vocals? or the instrumental with vocals? or both seporate?

  • can this be used with vocals?

  • thanx

  • how much does it cost to take the online courses?

  • wow these tutorials are great many thanks for sharing these you just mead my mastering more interesting now

  • can i do the same steps to every kind of music i produce on ableton for example minimal electro or minimal techno do i have to do the same steps for every track i produce or is it just a sample on the tracks u mixed and i i have to guide myself thru my ears im really bad at hearing or recognizing sounds but i love music big problem. if i have to do the same steps and numbers for every track then im good if i have to do it different on different tracks then im so lost any advice

  • awesome! really love these vids! subscribing!

but i wonder about how i know what to boost on different song with this technique. should i try to use your tutorial as a basic and then mod it for my own use. or can the frequencies differ ALOT?

  • Excellent excellent! I can't thank you enough for sharing this knowledge! Thank you

  • ur great for doing this! Thnx alot!!

  • This man is a genius.. would be nice to find a chart of which keynotes fit with which frequency's/hz as he mentioned when filling out the Bass/Mids. Keep up the fantastic work!

  • @FibonacciG Use the Spectrum in Ableton, if you hover over the frequencies that are pushing through it will give you the note

  • @VegassTrades Awesome!! Thank you so much

  • @FibonacciG No problem bud, I'm a music tech teacher so if you have any other questions send me a message

  • Very informative tut. I'm trying to learn some mastering techniques, but they are rather complicated. Videos like this helps us noobs a lot.

  • thanks for explaining this clearly.

  • fantastic tutorial, cheers

  • good stuff!!!...

  • no part 3?... very usefull!!!! thanx

  • is there a major difference in using ableton lives plugins to do mid side eq'ing versus using ozone to do the same technique?!

  • It's really nice to see this kind of information presented in this way. I can read about how the tools work all day, but having someone show how they'd ever actually use it is highly educational. I did find it a bit hard to hear the differences when the effect was bypassed though - largely because the voiceover continued right through it!

  • There is a fault at 8:35: if you do mid/side processing to a mono signal, the result will be mono regardless of the setting. In this case the side signal is just silence. Eq'ing silence results in silence. There is only a mid signal. Converting the mid signal to a stereo signal will result in identical left and right channels, means its mono. If you want to make a mono signal stereo with eqing, you need to apply a different eq setting to the left and right But that is not M/S processing.

  • Great info, but like music, videos/movies need some mixing/mastering techniques applied to them as well. In this case, a touch of de-esser on the voice would have made my ears much happier, especially after I put on my headphones as recommended by the video. The sibilance in his voice overpowered the subtlety of the mixing techniques and made it difficult for me to hear the results of the demonstrations. Great info though, looking forward to giving these techniques a try.

  • Sorry to be a pedant.

    @ 7:40 there is a loose edit .

At the beginning when talking about M&S technique you picture is of a coincident pair of cardioid microphones. For any one hoping to use this technique they would of course need a figure of eight and a cardioid/omni microphone.

Also it might be nice to allow people to hear the processing you talk of you cut the bass on the side channel and boost the high but only play a section with mid frequency in it.

    Looking forward to more.!

  • god this is beautiful. Well spoken, high quality, and very informative. keep up the good work.

  • @Brandon75689 thanks! Daniel Wyatt teaches our Mixing and Mastering course at our school in NYC and in our forthcoming Mixing and Mastering online course, there's more where that came from!

  • MORE MORE MORE! Please!

  • Great tutorial!!!!Thanks!!!

  • what website do u teach on and how much is it

  • awesome! really great lesson! can't wait for next episode!! ...plz DeEsser...;)

  • REEEEEAlly helpful thanks a lot!

  • you put this on the master channel?

  • @jelle191 Yes.

  • Thank You! this is awesome!!!! Cant wait for next tutorial!! :)

  • Thank you!

  • Daniel, thank you so much for sharing. Your session in Austin was super informative and this was one of the best parts. I'm glad you made a video so more people can learn about it. Get Izotope 4 if you don't have it.

  • does make sense only if your mix is perfectly balanced. there is no rules in which you add certain frequencies to any track so it'll sound better. it is individual isn't it?

  • brill

  • Awesome! Very informative, Thanks!!!

  • I simply love what you guys do there at dubspot.Great tutorial, like always :)

ps. does anyone know what's the name of the song that plays at the end of every dubspot vid? thanks!

  • Im just amazed! Thanks for a small insight into this software and the Mastering process. i want to know more. I never knew adding EG is adding more harmonic notes

  • Im just amazed! Thanks for a small insight into this software and the Mastering process. i want to know more.

  • Since you like typing and you love 8kHz, you can just type '8k' in the edit box. Ozone will put the EQ node at 8kHz.

Another awesome thing I love about Ozone is the alt-solo on the EQ. Hold alt and click on the frequency display and Ozone solos that frequency range so you can hear trouble spots easier.

  • Thanks for including this track and such a great tip. Will try this today. I love Ozone 4 ...I use Pultec eq and UA Percision Limiter...So I will try this technique between them...

Your course sounds like a plan!

    King Britt

  • How can I follow the online course?

  • Thanks man, this is great!

I hope I will have your skills one day.

You talk about you love 55 and 110 Hz on this track.

How do you located the field that you feel is good for the track?

  • thanks for your really clear and good teaching

  • starting an Ableton producer course in June (hopefully).. this course is my next goal for sure.. lovin it

  • videos like this make me love dubspot

  • Thanks man these are a real help peace:)

  • was hoping for a comparison between the original and mastered

  • how do these online courses work??? is it like livestream or something???

  • considering that mastering is at least half of the production process, you're doing a real solid sharing these vids. thanks.

  • unbelieveble that you offer us some of the more difficult methods used in the proffessional szene

  • great tutorial. thanks.

  • superb great. i'm waiting to enter a online course at dub spot, and hope go there someday.

never knew about this magic technique.

    very well explained.

  • dubspot is winning...

  • wow. what a big difference. you can't do this with the ableton eq, is as effective?

  • @Stephenxs Live's EQ has Mid Side, so you should be able to. Voxengo Marvel GEQ is free and can do Mid Side too.

  • been waiting for this for agesss

  • wo nice 1 ,,, !!!
