Defying Gravity (Executioner's Song) Ringtones to your Cell (Jesse Winchester) I live on a big blue ball I never do dream I would fall But even the day that I do I'll jump off and smile back at you We don't even know where we are But they say that we're circling a star Well, I'll take their word, I don't know But I'm dizzy so maybe that's so. I'm riding a big blue ball And never do dream I would fall But even the high may lay low So when I do fall I'll be glad to go...
One song I recall was when Gary was being transported over to the "execution chamber" in a window van. When they got in, the radio was on & playing a popular song from that time period (& I remember it too) "Uma Paloma Blanca" by George Baker Selection. The driver started to turn it down, but Gary asked him to turn it up.
I always felt "Defying Gravity" was 1 of Waylon's best songs-took me awhile to find it but I finally did.
I have it on a CD set called Waylon Jennings, the Complete MCI Years, Track 20. It is a really a good version of it--better than the version in the Executioner's Song movie. I rented the movie just to hear Waylon on the sound track. There are a couple other songs that he sings on it that I wish I had too.
Mikal Gilmore (Rolling Stone Magazine) wrote a very interesting book that gives great insight into the mind of his brother, Gary Gilmore, and a terrible, sometimes haunting childhood. The book is Shot Through The Heart. The first 3/4 of the book are great.

Is a 1982 tv movie called "The Executioner Song", with Tommy Lee Jones and Rosanna Arquette.
Waylon sings a song with the same title that he would recorded later during his late 80's MCA years.
I dont'know if waylon sings other songs on the movie.
