It's just a story, and besides, have you taken into consideration what they want from their careers? They have done anything and everything possible as a tag team.

They got bored of being a tag team and decided to be have their own seperate careers.

As for Jeff's chance at becoming Heavyweight Champ, he won't. As far as I've heard, he hasn't re-signed with the WWE, so there is no way in hell they are going to make him champ a few weeks before he leaves. They don't want another Bret Hart.
