SODIUM LAURYL SULFATE was really the cause for my scalp acne! I checked the ingredients of my Herbal Essence (for oily, greasy hair) and I found this. I discontinued to use this product for a week and now I'm free from this crazy scalp acne problem! Thank you, so much!!! :D
Both of those SLS ingrediants are drying and bad for the hair/scalp. You may've just had a reaction to something else in the Aussie shampoo and Dove products always have more moisturising ingrediants than other products so it'd be the more moisturising ingrediants in the Dove shampoo that better for your hair/scalp and would've helped your scalp to recover. So even if the Dove product has an SLS ingrediant, high moisturiser content is probably combating the drying effect of the SLS ingrediant. x

@3mikoJunji Keep in mind I just looked this up on Wikipedia, but it says that sodium sulfate is used as a filler in detergents (shampoo would count) and for drying out organic compounds. Since it's used for drying, it makes sense that it would also dry out your scalp. I think the Loreal EverPure/EverStrong hair care is sulfate free, so you might try that. I want to say that that's also the ingredient that makes shampoo lather, so this shampoo might night foam up as much.
@Beautymarked16 So, would you say that Conditioning your hair is a good idea? I don't think I've seen a shampoo with the Lauryl Sulfate on em. But still I think anything that has alcholoh in em is bad.
@mypalrocco lol i got here cuz i was looking for reviews of this shampoo, you should be nice, i mean people may like you in spite of the scalp acne if you were nice :)
@mickydeeza Learn to laugh a little, sheesh! Maybe if you weren't all crammed up with poop from eating Mickeydeez burgers you'd be a much happier person!
@mickydeeza I call 'em the way I see 'em...I guess the truth hurts! Maybe next time you won't waste peoples time writing word-for-word what somebody said on their Youtube videos like a retard!
omg you just saved mu life i recently got this problem and ir became unbarabley itchy and it still is now and people were bullying me saying i have nits and dandruff but i didnt so now i can be happy again x
If your having problems with itchy scalp and excess dandruff also known as seborrhea, and everything your doing to control it is not working you should check out The american Institute of Advanced Medicine. They will eradicate this horrible problem for good. check them out theaiam.com
THANK YOU SOOO MUCH! I recently got this problem, and when I heard you talk about the drying ingredient in the aussie shampoo, I run to my shower and looked at the ingredients in my head and shoulders shampoo, and what do you know, it was the 3rd ingredient. Time to get some new shampoo!
thanks!!! Actually this week I was really scared of having a major problem and I started using a ACNE FACE FOAM to wash my hair, it worked also but I guess that in the long run is better to use a the shampoo without that ingredient...
I have the same thing. I started getting it at ~40. My dermatologist said to use Nizoral shampoo, about $17. She said to use it every other day for 2 weeks, then just twice a week after that (using any other shampoo the rest of the time). If I'm stressed, or there's a change in weather that's significant, or I slack off on Nizoral, it comes back. I've heard it's due to hormones, stress and oils. So, while the Dove you used fixed it, I'm wondering if the Aussie was not the cause. Could be wrong.
Do you know if Ammonium Laureth Sulfate or Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate causes this as well? Because I use Aussie Moist Shampoo, and while it doesn't have Sodium Sulfates in it, it has Ammonium Sulfate.
Thanks for this. I've had scalp acne for some time now. I just checked my shampoo and it has ammonium laureth and lauryl sulfate. I'm going to check out the Dove shampoo that you showed to see if it helps at all.
@watever328 Then the bad might still cause a problem. The Aussie one has both the good and the bad and I still had problems. I think the "good" one is in every single shampoo and the "bad" one is only in some, and those are the ones that can give you acne. If you don't get a bad reaction though then I wouldn't worry about it. This is just if you're having a problem.
As a dude who's endured and contended with cranium zits for the better part of two decades(aka: my entire life), I've found great relief via Tea Tree shampoo. Can be pricey by comparison, but it's easily accessible(SuperCuts always has it handy)and with only an occasional dab required, it's well worth the purchase.
