Excellent video. I'm new to chess computers and got back into chess recently, I played chess in my childhood against my dad. Would you recommend this to a beginner level chess player or perhaps some cheaper model? Also can you turn off the beep sounds? Thanks for the answers!
Thanks. Yes, the sound can be turned off. The computer does have an easy level and a fun level, which introduces mistakes, to make it easier. So it is also suited for beginners. But if you don't have any big plans to really improve your game, an cheaper model would be fine, too. Frankly, my background is somewhat the same as yours, and I find that even the slightly higher levels for me are almost impossible to beat ;-)
It is a very expensive chesscomputer compared with same strenght chess computers from Saitec. The strongest Saitec, Mephisto Master cost 150 € ELO 2000. The Obssidian cost 200 € ELO 1950. The features of the Saitec out weigh the Novag. Great review tho and Novag computers are ok.
I bought it for less: about 125 euros; 200 would be a ripoff. Only the charger wasn't included. It's true that the SaitecMM has a higher Elo rating. I saw a website where they just about tested all chess computers, and I think the SaitecMM performed best. But I'll never beat the Obsidian at it's highest level anyways, and I really like the wooden pieces ;)
HI, Great detailed reviews. I really enjoyed all of them! I also just purchased this unit and should be receiving it in a day or so. Thanks for taking the time to put this video together.

If you create reviews in the future you really should consider reducing the umms and uhhs. Painful to listen to.
