A couple of weeks ago I was walking out to my car for a smoke break at work. When I opened my door I heard a huffing noise, looked up and 2 javelina where right in front of my car. Hahaha, shows how observant I was being. This was in downtown Prescott.
That is a very sad story, though I'm glad it turned out well.
I simply cannot understand the mentality. When I was a teenager, if I found a nest of redtailed hawks my attitude would be one of sheer awe, not sadism. I used to watch the eagle's nest in my old town all the time.
Once, a young great blue heron was watching me fish on the docks, real intently. I threw a fish in his direction, and he came closer to snap it up. Soon enough, I ALMOST had him taking fish from my hand. It was cool.
@wilcox1219 I have before.....Not my first choice of meat lol. The one I got had gotten into the juniper berries. I have also had it mixed with pork sausage and stuffed into some casings. That turned out really nice.
Read your blog about the RedTailed Hawk. It is a shame that those kids did that. Thank God the birds survived. Very cool you took the time to check things out and possible kept those teens from coming back.
Thanks for the wonderful walk about John. A very sad but touching story of the red tail hawk family too. It's scary to think of what those teens may grow into. Hopefully the young birds have grown and found safer grounds thanks to your intuition and intervention... : )
Cool vid ... GTK. I'm down in central Texas and I can employ much of what you convey. ...
... Loving my Emberlit Titanium UL, BTW ... It wa smaller than I thot it would be but that is a GOOD thing, as it fits in my Jumbo Deployment Waist Pack (Larger than a Proteus and smaller than a Sabercat) Pretty sure my Trangia burner will fit inside the Emberlit, nicely, too. Way to go, Nik ! Mmmmm ... Javalina scat ... It's finger lickin' good !
@phrankus2009 lol I'm on skype with him now. The stove I have I made an alcohol stove from an aluminum can and it fits pretty well. Its made from a red bull can but it works pretty well. I am glad the javelina poo was dried out lol.
Good video John. As for the teenaged quadders.. The little rad bastards need a taste of their own medicine. I raised my kids up to respect nature and all her wonders. It truly pains me to hear about a scene like you described. I am glad it all worked out in the end.
I watch them more then you think lol. I want to do a survial situation video with tuff situations and low supplies. But this summer way to cold right now
@ramsd1 I have been meaning to write an update on the blog. For about 6 months after this incident they would hear my truck coming and they would fly over to the tree and wait for me. I could see them coming as I drove up. It was pretty cool. All they would do is sit in the tree and watch me lol. I got to watch them grow and finally leave to start families of their own. I do not really know where they are as of the present day.
Nice little segment--I like your informative hikes. Neat trick with the palo verde!
