  • Amazing :-)

  • @0:51 "Take two fingers, scratch your nose then take two more fingers and pinch your drealocks"

    nice tutorial btw! :)

  • is this the only thing you do to maintain your roots?

  • crackers don't look good with dreads at all

  • this is a great method, and it brings almost instant results...highly recommended!! :)

  • I've already said it on DT, but thank you for this farrenfox! I've also discovered that if you move your hands down the lock in sections; you can tighten up the entire dread that way!

  • thanks for the vid, i find it funny that i couldnt find a tip like this from african american dread tip vids (im black btw) so i appreciate the tip! i did this on my back dreads and it added a good amount of length to them which i didnt really expect :)

  • I don't know why but this tip seriously works like magic! The hand is soooo much better of a bass to rub your dread on then your scalp. Kudos to you and THANK YOU so freakin much! It saves me like HOURS everyday haha

  • good idea never heard of it be for works good thanks

  • i love that joan jett record/and or poster in the backround :D and beautiful dreads

  • Excellent tip! Worked well :)

  • Good video you explain clearly and show clearly 5/5 and a like

  • Good video! A big thumbs up!!!

  • perfect! ive had dreads for about 2 weeks now, my biggest Issue is the fuzzy hair ;D

  • hey.. can you help me.... what can you do if your hair grows... like.... the base of the dread its not locked.... its just natural straight hair... what should you do to lock it again?

  • omg thanks!

  • THANK YOU! I've been crocheting and it was only making my roots worse but i tried this and it worked perfectly.

  • thank you so much for making this video! ive been hoping for a fast easy quick fix for my root fuzzies for so long!! if you could post more dreadlock videos that would be really awesome =) also, if you use your method, and then crochet it after would that make it a little more permanant?

  • i left my rubber bands in too long and now my roots are very undreaded and i have so many frizzies i dont know what to do with them. Will this method help lock up the roots aswell?

  • how do u keep your ends so round ,man?

    HELP

  • Gacias, thanks, easy technic.

  • Joan Jett on the wall! Love

  • 8 years with dreads, how come your dreads are so short and thin? just curious, they look good by the way, were they done or grown naturally? keep up the good work with the helpful tips too :D

  • @Streetzisdeathrow Everyone's dreads are different. They can be sectioned to be different sizes width-wise, but you don't know how big they are actually going to become once you are just starting out, though through sectioning it differently you can have a bit of control over it. Also, not everyone's dreadlocks grow at the same rate, depending on the hair type.

  • @b00merangd0ll yes but over time the hair that breaks stays in therfore the dreadsize thickens over time...so the only explanation would be if her hair is very healthy and she gets little to no hair breakage at all

  • @Streetzisdeathrow On average, we lose around 50 - 100 hairs a day, and it stays in the dread. Health factors affect it, but it doesn't stop it from happening.

  • tried it out as i watched the video seemed to work

    thanks!

  • AWESOME, thanks so much! I just did my dreads this past weekend with a friend, and neither of us could figure out a way to get the frizzies to go away.

What can oyu do to make it permanent?

  • howw did u make ur dreads?? ive been wanting to get them but i dont want them to turn out fat. urs are perfect!

  • This really works!! Fab! Thanks so much, especially works when crocheting what you just pull together. :)

  • Great tutorial. =] I'd really love if you'd do a tutorial on how to START dreadlocks. I'm a white girl too, (haha) and have no idea how to start. I did go to a couple of websites, but I think it'd be easier for me to actually see the process and hear it explained out loud.

  • You might just want to cut off your shitlocks to begin with.

  • your hot

  • good method!

it takes a while but it gives me something to do...

Thing is you could make it permanent if you use wax after rubbing the hairs to the root, call it what you wish, and 'cement' the hair into the dread.

  • @geoffreydesantis NOOOOOOOOOOOOO WAAAAAAAAAAAAAX!!! Wax is the devil incarnate!

  • @CallMeMistressSally WA?!

i had mine done with a little wax just at the start and it did just fine! what really buggers them is crocheing!

  • @geoffreydesantis I used a little wax at the beginning too, then I got lazy and stopped using it... then almost a year later I cut them off ;_; and there was a lovely gunky wax core, along with all the dirt and lint it attracted. I know some people who got mildew in their dreads because wax is non-water soluble and actually ends up trapping moisture in there after a while. A better solution is aloe vera gel. And yeah, crocheting breaks hairs, leading to thinning and breakage.

  • wow thanks... i needed a new method to entertain my A.D.D. and tighten my roots....

  • doesnt work on my dreads. my hair is too thick and curly

  • I want to kiss you!

  • Very helpfull

  • it works for a few hours and then wen u lay down or wait a day it just comes right out.

  • perfect! been looking for a new method for a while.

Have you heard of the method when you seperate the base and pull the dread through the gap? then opposite directing throught the roots?

  • This is usually called "flipping the roots" and can really weaken your dreads! I do NOT reccomend it!

  • @farrenfox dang ok well i wont do it anymore lol Im having a hard time finding solid methods. i just need to let it go longer i guess. my acual dreads cant be longer than 5 inch

    Thanks for the Advice!

  • @WuMark man thats called interlocking and it is bad bad bad bad! dont do it, it makes for very weak dreads that can break apart

  • This is awesome! If I do this more often will it have a permanent effect? Thx for the upload this is so damn helpful! :D LOVE IT!

  • Your dreads are awesome. How do you keep them so seperated? Mine are always growing into each other.

  • YESSSSSSSSSSS finally :D .. omg thank you so muc i was looking for something like that :D

  • much*

  • First thing. I love your dreads and they look very good on you. Never seen them on a white girl to be incredulously hones. And each time you twist, you get SOME of the hairs to get (in some way) 'into' the dread. One time is NOT the charm.

  • Thank you! I'm so glad you get it - you have to try this more than once or twice to see long term results. :D

  • Nice tutorial!

  • i developed this exact technique my self lol but for me it was for helping un-knotted hair in the body of a dread knot. great minds think a like.

  • Good tip, but my dreads are very knotted and are very fat and hard, so, the movement doesnt help, because your hands hurt. (i dont speak english jejejeje)

  • Enjoyed your vid, good technique.

  • 5 STARS****************

  • u dont say ne thing about wraping around the dread.

  • the hair doesnt lock up it just wraps the loose hair around the dread and then it comes out

  • which is what I say in the video. thanks for coming out...

  • have u been doing this alot and does it seem to work. cause wen i do it it just seems like the hair wraps around the dread and just sits there.

  • FARRENFARRENFARRENFARRENFARRENFARRENFARRENFARRENFARRENFARREN

*Bounces* I love you and your hair and this method works great! RAWR!

  • they fit you perfectly

  • How did u start yours??

  • also how many do you have?

  • Fifty eight.

  • i think i love you

  • i tryed that last nite and all it did was make the loose hair wrap around the root it didnt make it knot up.

  • hold your fingers tightly on the dread, do a couple tries on each dread, and try it while they are wet to see more permanent results.

  • ur dreads are amazing.

  • This is a cool tip. I'll have to try this once I get more length. Thanks.

  • This is nice.

    Thank you for sharing,

    Jah Bless,

    Cinnamonslices

  • By God, you are gorgeous! Thanx for the tips :)

  • stamp she look normal with locks that size....

erbody else that got them fat doo doo lookin jointz need to get them CHOPPED.....

  • I disagree, I love fat locks.

  • now that is how white ppl should get their dreads, not those really fat things they get done, and ps you look beautiful

  • I'm starting my dreads today XD

None of that wax or anything, just back combing and love!

  • Thank you, I never got the 'root rubbing' technique, and this one makes more sense :P

Well I can't use this YET, as I started my dreads.. oh 3 days ago, and re-backcombed yesterday and today, so I'd say day 1 again. Anyways, I'm gonna pm you

  • hot

  • tnx for that <3

  • Wow dreads look really nice on you Farren. ::D not to mention your cute.

  • ima have to try this once my dreads mature. im 26 days in yay

  • farrenfox r0x0rs my s0x0rs!

    <3 <3 <3

  • awesome video mama~ thanks for the tip!!

    dread envy<3

  • cool....................

  • in my opinion dreads are not meant to be 'perfect'. there will always be fuzzies so I think people who are asking 'how can I have perfect dreadlocks all the time' are missing the point a bit.

  • exactly. but this is a good method for those times when we need to clean up for outside reasons.

  • MMMM! this girl is somethin' else. i need to find me a woman like this!

  • How do you do your whole entire head with out any wax or bands?

  • You never need bands or wax. Bands and wax actually impede the knotting of hair instead of help it.

  • hey, firstly great vid and dreads looking fabulous :)

and have few questions :) how to make perfectly dreaded roots for ever?!! I have dreads for about a year and still have 1-2 cm undreaded roots.. and the method of rolling dread between fingers works just for day or two.. than it becomes undreaded again.. can you help me? btw, I have much more thicker dreads, can it be the problem? thx for answer :))

  • There is no PERMANENT way for roots to be tight and nice. Hair grows. And moves.

There is going to be loosness in the roots, and there's nothing wrong with that.

The only way to have a "permanent" tightness in the roots, is to actually KEEP doing the maintenence routines daily/every other day, or whenever needed. Eventually the loose hair will grow into a tight dread, but it's still going to have the looser hair at the roots.

  • but the girl looks like she has really nice and permanently dreaded roots..and i saw many dreads like that, perfectly dreaded, so i was wondering, whats the right way to make it like that.. :/

  • It won't let me post the link, but here's a video of how to clean up loose hairs with a crochet hook. This method is a lot more permanent, although the hair can still work it's way loose again. But most of the time I find that it stays in there fairly well. But yeah.

Just type in "Maintaining dreadlocks with a crochet hook" in the search bar and it will be the first video in the list.

  • For the record, I personally don't recommend the crochet method as I think it can create damage to the hair inside the dreadlock.

  • I don't like it either. But he/she might. And I know others who do. I've personally had problems with the crochet hook getting stuck in the center of my dread when trying to pull the loose hair through. It's not really worth the hassle. And your "perfect dreads are an illusion" comment is golden. I completely agree with everything mentioned in it.

  • In my opinion, perfect dreads are an illusion - people will always think other's dreads are nicer than theirs. 1-2 cm of undreaded hair is NORMAL and GOOD - otherwise there would be too much tension on the root and you would be able to see all the scalp between dreads, making you appear bald. Love your dreads for what they are and in 2 years you'll be amazed at how far they've come.

  • Beautiful! I'd have throught the heat and the rubbing wouldweaken a little, but if not, all good!

  • Ow ow!!

    Nicely done!

  • yoh our hair look fab! how long was your hair when you started your dreads? i have about 10 but they've shrunk from my shoulders to little stumps... i'm curious how yours were at the start?

  • My hair was past my shoulders and shrunk up to shoulder length. Even though shrinking seems bad it is a good indication that your dreads are locking up and maturing! It is definitely a good thing!

  • wow attractive! im starting my dreads in about a month

  • Great tutorial, Farren!!! Thanks!

  • I always do this with my dreads!!..you can also use this when you are trying to get rid of bumps in the middle of a dread or something!

  • Hello, just curios as to the disclaimer at the end. When you say it's not permanent, you're pretty much saying new growth won't grow "knotted", correct? thanks for the great vid btw :)

  • I say that it is non permanent because this method spins the loose hairs around the dreadlock, and occasionally they will become locked onto themselves, but not really onto the dreadlock like sewing in loose hairs does. As soon as you put on a hat or a hood, the hair usually comes unraveled.

  • Ah, gotcha :) well how often do you do this? loving the way your locks look. I've had my locks close to a year and they have loads of loose hairs in between. Tried to crochet, and failed miserably.

Do you have any other forms of maintenance? If you do then maybe, just maybe if you can spare the time to make more tutorials. As this was easy to follow and fun to watch.

    Have a great day!

  • Thanks! :)

I don't do it very often, only before an important meeting at work or before a wedding or something like that. I don't do any thing else to my hair besides wash it!

  • really nice locs

  • Thank you so much!

  • love your locs,beautiful

  • wow, that look easy. Im'a try it and see if it works for me. by the way, nice locs.

  • Thanks! I hope it works as well for you as it does for me.
