I've loved the Cure since 7th grade but I fell in love with them all over again at Coachella that year. Like @Bxngmelly said, I have nothing but "mad respect" for the band who wouldn't quit even after Coachella pulled the plug on 'em.
P.S. I saw them from the 4th row back in 2000 and that was always my best concert memory of seeing them...but this came in as a verrrrry close second. I loved how the crowd just smooshed even closer and started singing even louder when the venue shut them down. Which, again, they totally shouldn't have.
Que chido, espero yo algún día ir a un couchella pero los vi en México en el 2007 el palacio de los deportes y si tocan realmente bien, larga vida a robert y the cure....
this is the awesomest thing i have seen! and i have so much more respect for robert smith and the rest of the band for keep on playing no matter what was being turned off...its a freakin festival the people there need to quit going by time rules and just let loose..if they are worryed about getting home so soon then they shouldn't be doing that job then..The Cure lives on!
Why? It's a MUSIC festival! That's why people were paying a minimum of $120 bucks to see the show! Let them get their money's worth! Robert Smith kicks ass for still playingand most of the shows were great, but I could of done without the vibe of rampant totalitarian capitalism that was doing every thing it could to appear to be supporting the arts while extorting every last penny out of the fans and the workers.
I'm so glad that someone caught this on film! I've never seen the Cure play before and I was blown away! What an awesome way to end Coachella this year. I already cant wait for next year!
the thing was that the cure had already left the stage like three or four times and comeback to play like two or three more songs, it was 12:30 they still kept playing.
Just when they were about to start the song, the sound cut off and some lights.
then they cutted even screens and the bass amp, although that, they kept playing, people kept chearing, clapping and singing along so it was so, so awesome!
The band has their set cut very short last time they played Coachella, and demanded a full 3 hour set as a condition of headlining in 2009.
Smith dropped hints about the band's true intentions throughout the night - to keep playing until removed.
Goldenvoice pulled the plug at 12:46. With only studio monitors, the band played three more songs, the lyrics carried into the remaining crowd in a giant sing-along.
A piece of magic, turning a giant festival into an intimate underground venue.
Wonderful! So cool that the audience knows the lyrics, and I am guessing they are a lot younger than I am (50) and I don't know the lyrics to this song, though it was huge "in my day." Fantastic! You know this meant a lot to the band.
It was magical!! I was lucky enough to be at the rail in front of Robert. Chills went through me when the audience sang and Robert mouthed the words to GH afterwards. He is LEGEND!!! Thank you Cure and the fans that made this night one to remember.
I was there and when I saw Robert throw the guitar I was so stoked for whoever caught it!!! Then I saw online yesterday that they took it away... I'm so pissed for you!!!!!

This was indeed THE finest moment of Coachella 2009!
The perfect expression, in spite of the rules & regulations, from an Artist's spirit of "we're gonna play anyway"!
cecerra2 2 years ago
the timing 4 dis song was perfect!!
all the amps and P.A.'s were turned off and it became so serene like the old shitty recording from the three imaginary boys album!
dont b fooled by the quality it was the best ending 2 coachella in my 6 years in a row that i have gone.
cure was rad and then there was a riot afterwards at the taj mahal lookin sculpture.
at that time it became 4/20 cos it was after midnight on 4/19 and we blazed a nice 420 joint!
good times! c ya next year
