i used to use the poles to stop and my cousin said try skiing without using the poles he said it wuld kill me cuz of how i am putting the poles in front of my to stop. but to me now free handed like without poles is so much comftorble then holding poles

He is a neat skiier, could plant his poles a bit better (I got that hammered into me as a kid "PLANT YER BLOODY POLES!")
Went off piste in Val last season, was crazy! guide was swept off by avalanche...was ok though.
