That was the longest StarCraft match I've ever seen. Too bad someone had to lose that game because it was a nail biter. That's two great matches I've seen in the past two weeks with the first being FireBatHero vs. Jahoon and now this. WOW!
Yay queens actually being effective! They're my favorite unit. There's an easy counter though-- feedback kills them and denies them energy and can be done at great range, and DA's are immune to broodling.
For protoss to defeat zerg. They need to stop fast expanding. Seriously they get behind so much because they are forced to submit to a loss of map control and lack of units, for the first 6-8 mins of the game. Zergs have figured out the fast expand build, and they are capitalizing on it every game
seriously? Have u seen the game? all Violet had 2 do is capturing (at least after he killed the zergs expantion there) the 10 to 11 o'clock base...then he would have had nice macro (income) to support his gateways....his micro was incredible, the dark archon helpin imensly. Point being, i still think the fast expand is the way to go, but there were 2 many cannons in this game. More expansionistic strategy would have sealed the deal....***remember, 2 gate aggr. was common, but lost many games!
Protoss got contained too early, had some crazy good harass but he lost his observers and high templar too easy. Big props for all the storming he did though! Would also have liked to see a resource count on both players, seemed like the zerg had him out-resourced 2:1 almost
This matchup still isn't zerg favored, protoss keeps playing the same loser builds, allowing zerg to power way too long early, wasting their midgame money and tech on harrassment units that never accomplish anything.
It's like how zergs complained about PvZ being imba after the bisu build corsair play came out, because they kept playing 3 hatch muta builds
this is ridiculous, we need bisu or someone to figure out this pvz imbalance. even when the toss player outplays the zerg player the toss player losses.
great game. Glad to see queens being used. Probably wouldn't need parasite on the shuttles if he had any scourge control but he obviously didn't :P Ensnare owns against those archons though. I hope to see them become standard against protoss. especially zealot archon.
yep thats 1a2a3a4a protoss for ya.. all we need to do.... most retarded opinion ever... and i dont think it was the observers that lost him the game. i think it was playing as defensevly as u need to to stay alive to a zerg. he wasnt able to expand at the same time. with a red swarm of zerg outside ur window and having to make the storm drops of the centuary... its klinda hard to 1a2a3a out and take aditional bases
Queens are vastly underated and underused units in professional starcraft. Ensnare/broodling/parasite are all potentially game changing abilities that - regardless of what some may wrongly think - are easy to use, and require the same amount of micromanagement as other spell casting units such as arbiters or science vessels.
Really feel sorry for Violet. He did some brilliant moves the entire game and almost managed to pull through.
The critical thing was the fact that since the observers were continuously sniped, it took him too long to break the lurker. Beacuse of that, he was unable to establish another base, which would have sealed him a victory.
wow one of the most entertaining games in a LONG LONG time. thanks for the great commentary diggity, i'm a long time fan. As a zerg fan, the drone massacres really set my stomach on end. the whole mid-game was just endless templar drops. The dark archons were a real crowd pleaser; don't know if they were quite all that effective, however. I also liked the awesome muta fly-bys assasinating everything. Would have liked to see mass broodling more, That would give zerg 'time is on my side' adv
Epic, epic game. Not flawless play on either side but a bunch of great back-and-forth, clever play. I like seeing the protoss experimenting with different builds. And it certainly was closer in a lot of ways than most recent PvZ.
It seems most ppl think Violet deserved the win based on his great HT drop harass. But Violet was never able to capitalize on those moments of Shine's inferior economy and the game went into starvation making all those drops useless. While there are no drones, resources are not being spent and will last even longer and eventually they will be all transformed into units anyway. All that Shine lost was the minerals to respawn the drones, which he traded for many shuttles and HTs. Great game tho.
Keep obs alive is much easier said then done. Their like science vessels in TvZ but science vessels arn't as fragile as the terran has more marines to dragoons so chances of marines hitting the scourge are higher, and obs only needs one scourge to kill.
As a protoss player I can feel what he was feeling right there having a great run out all due to ob problems.. Simply unfair.
um... duuuuhhh?! everybody knows that after two beings come together to merge as one that they are no longer biological beings, but rather pure energy. DUH! [p.s. just kidding]
I thought violet deserved the win, but I guess in the end it was who won that counted.
I suspect that there were many vulnerabilities that he just didn't take advantage of. At first glance, it seems like if a zerg has 4 drones and a protoss has perfect probe saturation, the zerg coming back would display a severe imbalance in the metagame.
But keep in mind that all zerg units just MELT to protoss units. Maybe he could have pulled the game if he had taken advantage of his economic lead.
awesome game, although i really have to tell diggity something :
Broodling doesn't work on reavers, nor does it work on probes. when it looks like he's broodlinging a probe, it's actually a high templar (take a good look)
That was... that was a pretty epic match. I mean seriously, both of them deserve props. This match should hopefully have an effect on the future metagame as well. They both used almost every single unit, didn't they?
This match also let's me see why Blizzard is focusing so much on vision in Starcraft 2. It can add a ton of depth, and it was also unfair that zerg started straight off with detection, so the overlord change will bring a lot of new strats to the game.
Definitely an awesome match. I'm pretty sure that reavers and probes can't be broodling'd though seeing as they're robotic (it seemed like you were refering to them being broodlinged) All they can really do is kill zealots and dark/high templars.
Lmao wow its already kind of desperate when a player starts to distance mine, but when a player starts having to ferry them over cliffs you know he's left with nothing else to do.
This match and the one before it are two of the craziest matches ive seen so far, aside from the comeback from nothing boxer made ages ago, and the mega battlecruiser battle i saw before. Nice one Diggity, keep it up!
In a way i totally agree with you, but... if Diggity says you can broodling probes, then you can f-in broodling probes. How dare you question DiggitySC!!!??
Violet's problem was that he had insane storm drops, but that was pretty much it... Lost a RIDICULOUS amount of observers, was constantly storming his own units, lost a lot of units for no good reason... An unfortunate turn of events. -_-;

Wow, another epic match by Shine! First, protoss makes dark archons, then zerg makes queens. Wow. By the way, I don't think queens can broodling reavers. Also, I think either of them deserved the win. Violet had some pretty good storms off on the drones, but actually, it's quite hard to dodge storm drops when shuttles are speed upgraded, because scourges don't land properly, and drones die in like half a second under storm.
Wow. Great. Pure entertainment. Why isn't this kind of thing on US television? The one problem with storm drops in a starvation game is that those minerals can still be mined later.
Yes, drones are costly, and dead drones hurt, but ..
As diggity said, gotta press the advantage and kill some troops while the drone count is low.
