Yes, because that's why I hate it. I'm a 12 year old who hates storytelling and can only get enjoyment out of experiences like Call of Duty. I'm sorry saying I hate a game means "Your mother is a whore". Also I hate Call of Duty. Bioshock is a game, and if it's game parts aren't good, why should I care about the story? I loved Max Payne1/2, and those had relatively great stories, and fantastic gameplay.
I still have to play this game for real, I rented it a while ago but didn't get very far. But so far for the horror/survival games, my favorite of all time is amnesia. That game scared the shit out of me (literally) without all the extreem violence and gore. Plus the game mechanic of actually moving the mouse to simulate what you are doing in game worked extreemly well, and helped me get even more immersed in this already immersive game. But we will see if it holds up to bioshock
@sgtbrown5 bioshock isnt entirely a horror game. the beginning is pretty scary but when u gain plasmids, weapons, and powers, and the story gets deeper. The experience is more of a fun and thrilling sci-fi adventure
Best game EVER :D saved them all 3 times and the first time upgraded all the best weapons in other words now im a kick ass semi bigdaddy who goes around K-O ing everything
@yoigot2tailslol Please elaborate on what a gamer is please. I would love to know what it is, because I thought that I was just giving my opinion on a game that I did not think was that great. I didn't know that it automatically labeled me as not a gamer. So please, if you can find it in your heart, since your opinion of my gamer status is what I'm currently waiting on the edge of my seat for, please define a gamer for me.
@mattyfressh it took me a playthrough to understand why it's so good but after that its been incredibly addicting after that. its probably because its very different from the usual FPS
One of the all-time greatest games. I recently played through Bioshock and Bioshock 2 again and thoroughly enjoyed them. While I feel that the sequel surpassed Bioshock in terms of overall quality and gameplay, for me the original Bioshock will always be truly special. It was highly innovative, unique, beautiful, chilling, awe-inspiring and engaging from start to finish. In my opinion, Bioshock bridged the gap between a mere video game and art. This is a masterpiece
I hate this game. The atmosphere and story is overrated, the combat is mediocre, while the city is, I have to admit, kind of interesting, everything else is just so boring and annoying. I don't see how people love this game so much.
@DeadManWalking49 Well i like it because it's very similer to DOOM 3 in every aspect and also because it does something new the graphics are very nice the combat to me is smooth and the story oh god the story is perfect that my reason anyway
@DeadManWalking49 Its a deep fps game with atmosphere thats in no way overrated.. Story is cool too, but you know, few games have THAT awsome story (MGS, Mass Effect and.. well i can't think of anything else at the moment)
@DeadManWalking49 it's for people with brains and enjoy quality storytelling and video games that do something different beside the usual COD treatment. How old are you? 12? No wonder.....
Im just gonna write it any way because i feel at least ONE person will
I'm a commentator/let's player, and I know theres like 100,000x commentators and let's players in this world but I know that I am something different. I am putting a lot of work into my BIOSHOCK BLIND let's plays and I just wish for more people to give my videos a try. I am hoping for at least one person to give my video a try. It doesn't cost you anything.
I remember playing this game for the first time. in the first 10 or 15 minutes i was still adjusting to the gameplay and the storyline but that special moment when a game captures your soul was when the song if i didnt care came on.
Just finished this, most overrated game I ever played :\ 96 metascore my ass. I was good, and I definitely enjoyed it, but I was expecting so much more. Sure, the setting was good and it had an awesome vibe, but the gameplay was just a huge series of fetch quests :\ Like I said still a good game but nowhere near as good as it's made out to be
what great about this game for me is how creepy i can relate to ryan's ideals. I see parasites everywhere makes me want to believe that there is a city under us where i can finally spend my money for myself alone. No more healthcare and bs that doesnt benefit me. Evey man for himself.
@HombreHonest Well, the use of light and dark is amazing, and you could have enemies chasing you through the dark and stuff, and some random encounters with enemies and others jumping out of nowhere. But there's always an underlying sense of humour.
@HombreHonest theres no horror xD but bit creepy parts which music makes it creepier but, it's more action than anything else. This game is a masterpiece, it's a MUST play!!!
@HombreHonest It's creepy, but not particularly scary. There's a couple scares early in the game, but nothing where you'll scream or jump out of your chair.
Playing it right now and its really awesome its truly a new world with new characters with different personalies and they even got their own quotations.
In a world where first person shooters are mindless online games with steryotypical soldiers with steryotypical guns. Games like this show that story and atmosphere is far superior to shooters. games like this and half life 2 show this and im glad that there is some shooters that dont rely on multiplayer.
I had the 1st Bioshock on 360, after my 5th xbox red ringed on me, I switched to ps3 (great choice, love the ps3 over the 360) but I never beat Bioshock, I'm planning on getting Batman Arkham Asylum along with Bioshock 1 & 2 today, Batman I had on 360 but I want to replay seeing how Arkham City is coming soon, Bioshock worth rebuying? I never played Bioshock 2
This is the best game in the world, it is sad they are butchering the title with the new infinite where the story evolves around saving this woman with big boobs, its just sad.
@dcymfercano but hey, the game looks good it doesnt have to stay the same. I didnt think Bioshock 1 and 2 were the same, but the bioshock series is fun. and big boobies :)
I take it the eeriness and wonderment of the original Bioshock as opposed to the sequel is comparable to the differences between FEAR and FEAR 2. Speaking from my experiences, FEAR tried to scare the ever-living out of you whenever possible, but not in obvious ways and it occasionally broke up into action sequences to change the pace; FEAR 2 was mostly about action with very little terrifying moments.
So am I right in that assumption, should I just get both Bioshocks for a complete experience?
i played both games, and although its true, that the second part isnt that creepy and perhaps not sooo atmospheric, its still a great game and gameplaywise way better than the first one imo...
@BurtonRGA7 I've recently picked up both games. I'm actually looking forward to the new additions of the second though, especially wielding both a weapon and a plasmid power at the same time. I'm used to the quick-swapping after playing through the first couple areas in Bioshock, but it's still a bit of a hassle so I'll be enjoying 2 more so on that front.

@Hikarilover123 I know a lot of people, just look for people who liked ''System Shock 2'', they always hate the fact that Bioshock is considered a ''spiritual sucessor'' to it
"Every now and then you play a game that is more than a game, it's an experience" - No Mark, I doubt there will ever be an experience like Bioshock again..
@69873167594 yeah, i have the ps3 and pc version, the ps3 is version is bassically the same but has some additional fixes and stuff so its actually kinda better, it is a port though
Just beat this game about an hour ago. Best thing about the sounds used in this game is the Little Sisters voices, when you can hear the deep voice of a monster behind their sweet little girl voices. And the Big Daddy's roar and footsteps as he comes at you to bash your face in when you didn't even realize that you walked to close.
I sincerely hope they can do the same they've done with this one only on infinite, that sense of misterious and wonder that we all didn't get from the seconde one although it's still very fun and awesome
omg the console version looks horrendous! on the pc version the hacking is sooo much faster, and the Big Daddies are also much faster and a real challenge. here they're just walking
@dwagothegod quite honestly im torn between one, or both of the bioshock games, or non-game-of-the-year-edition-Oblivion. i'm leaning towards bioshock 2 or oblivion, cause i pretty much finished the first bioshock lol, reccomendations?
I like your review because you keep your attention to what is essential. I love this game a lot, it's so immersive (no pun intended). The only thing I don't like much is the fps part. Weapons are generally louzy, and when they're not, ammunition is very scarce. The shooting is too chaotic and the enemies keep running and strafing all the time during the fights. Best story and tone I've ever seen in a game. But not the best fps at all.
@blank21121 The verbs "immerse" and "submerse" are not that distant in meaning. The first word focus on the relation inside/outside. The second focus on above/below. The way I see it, they are very related to each other when it comes to water (inside/outside the water or above/below the surface). In fact, the thesaurus (I just checked) lists the verb "immerse" as one of the synonyms of the verb "submerse". So i guess the pun (if intended) would work.
One of the things I didn't really liked about Bioshock was the camera, it made the confrontations so unrealastic and stupid when you were trying to take a picture of the splicers every 2 seconds -.-
@brettwisniewski PS3 version has more content and has several other minor improvements that make it better than PC or Xbox360 versions. PC version also has horrible DRM. A big drawback to the PS3 version however (this is just my opinion though) is the fact that it forces you to use L2 and R2 to aim and shoot, instead of L1 and R1 as is the default. And there's no way to change it. Overall, PS3 version is probably the one you should get.
@Jort007 Hah thought i was playing it on easy but it was on normal. But really compared to the average FPS Bioshock is way harder. So much more strategy. I loved it though.
@AllWalksofLife Hmm, yeah it can make it difficult. Especially the first time when you are figuring out how everything works. I personally find shooters like Call of Duy way harder (on the hardest difficulty that is) because you have so little health you could be dead by one bullit.
@omgitsduane1 Girls can't be good at a video game? I beat this game on the hard difficulty, just like I best all my games on the hardest difficulty. Don't be a dick.
bioshock 1 is far superior in creepyness then bioshock 2. but imho i think bioshock 2 is better when it comes to a fun factor(except for cohen in 1 he was awesome)
Well, Bioshock 2 has some cool weapons and plasmid upgrades, but it's a lot easier (and there's no survivor difficulty) than Bioshock 1. In Bioshock 2, the only challenges were the Big Sister fights.
@cyberpolice9000 well im not saying that bioshock 2 was harder. bioshock 1 was definitely harder then 2 but im saying that bioshock 2 was more fun to play. bioshock 1 is still a great and fun game to play but all the changes in bioshock 2 made the game alot more fun to play imo.
@hhheeeccckkk526 nope bioshock 1 is better in litteraly everyway (except for duel plasmids) characters are better its more atmospheric its better storry has a better character is more fun, has more exploration is longer, its cooler, its BY THE RIGHT DEVELOPER unlike the second, its original.... ITS INCREDIBLE
@danin900 everyone is entitled to their opinion. i find bioshock 1 and 2 extremely fun but there is something in 2 that makes it so much better to me.
@thelpfen If there was an underwater city and I lived in it, I would crap my pants twenty-seven times and travel half-way through insanity before I escaped.
By far one of the best, most fun, creative, game ever. I've been gamin since '84 and this one is up there. Solid review.

Best game ever.

I sincerely hope they can do the same they've done with this one only on infinite, that sense of misterious and wonder that we all didn't get from the seconde one although it's still very fun and awesome

thnking of getting this and bioshock 2 for a total of $15-20, is worth it?
TWOCentHo 7 months ago
@TWOCentHo It´s worth it if you enjoy half fps/survival horror games. I bought both and played them through one after one.
dwagothegod 7 months ago
@dwagothegod quite honestly im torn between one, or both of the bioshock games, or non-game-of-the-year-edition-Oblivion. i'm leaning towards bioshock 2 or oblivion, cause i pretty much finished the first bioshock lol, reccomendations?
TWOCentHo 7 months ago
@TWOCentHo Hmm, i can give you suggestions from any genre if you got a 360 PS3 i know a few games that´s good not so much. If it´s 360 or PC though.
dwagothegod 7 months ago
@dwagothegod yeah i'd appreciate it if you did. thanks man.

Demonhorse1 7 months ago
@Demonhorse1 Why did you say no pun intended? it would have worked if you had said submersive instead of immersive.
blank21121 7 months ago
@blank21121 The verbs "immerse" and "submerse" are not that distant in meaning. The first word focus on the relation inside/outside. The second focus on above/below. The way I see it, they are very related to each other when it comes to water (inside/outside the water or above/below the surface). In fact, the thesaurus (I just checked) lists the verb "immerse" as one of the synonyms of the verb "submerse". So i guess the pun (if intended) would work.

i got it doday and its kinda scary but AWESOME

@thelpfen Agreed. I didn't buy bioshock 2. I'm too invested in this one to really care.

i absolutley love this game. one of the best games released on the 360 by far.
minielk454 7 months ago
One of the things I didn't really liked about Bioshock was the camera, it made the confrontations so unrealastic and stupid when you were trying to take a picture of the splicers every 2 seconds -.-
Jort007 8 months ago
@Jort007 lightning, then take a photo. done.
omgitsduane1 7 months ago
@omgitsduane1 Still stupid, not fun and unrealistic right? I don't know what you meant to say with that comment?
Jort007 7 months ago
@Jort007 electrobolt them so they are frozen, whip out the camera, take a photo and thats it. do that all the time and youll learn it all easily.
omgitsduane1 7 months ago
@omgitsduane1 I didn't say it was difficult -.- It's just stupid and takes me out of the atmosphere.

Bioshot11 8 months ago
Should I get this game for PS3 or PC? My PC is pretty souped up so running it on there won't be a problem.
brettwisniewski 8 months ago
@brettwisniewski PS3 version has more content and has several other minor improvements that make it better than PC or Xbox360 versions. PC version also has horrible DRM. A big drawback to the PS3 version however (this is just my opinion though) is the fact that it forces you to use L2 and R2 to aim and shoot, instead of L1 and R1 as is the default. And there's no way to change it. Overall, PS3 version is probably the one you should get.
Smarty4789 8 months ago
this game is hard as fucking nails. even on easy.
AllWalksofLife 8 months ago
@AllWalksofLife Hmm, you don't play a lot of other games then, do you?
Jort007 8 months ago
@Jort007 Hah thought i was playing it on easy but it was on normal. But really compared to the average FPS Bioshock is way harder. So much more strategy. I loved it though.
AllWalksofLife 7 months ago
@AllWalksofLife Hmm, yeah it can make it difficult. Especially the first time when you are figuring out how everything works. I personally find shooters like Call of Duy way harder (on the hardest difficulty that is) because you have so little health you could be dead by one bullit.
Jort007 7 months ago
@AllWalksofLife yeah what the fuck. ive watched GIRLS just run through this game on easy. you retard.
omgitsduane1 7 months ago
@omgitsduane1 Girls can't be good at a video game? I beat this game on the hard difficulty, just like I best all my games on the hardest difficulty. Don't be a dick.

bioshock 1 is far superior in creepyness then bioshock 2. but imho i think bioshock 2 is better when it comes to a fun factor(except for cohen in 1 he was awesome)
hhheeeccckkk526 8 months ago 43
@hhheeeccckkk526
Well, Bioshock 2 has some cool weapons and plasmid upgrades, but it's a lot easier (and there's no survivor difficulty) than Bioshock 1. In Bioshock 2, the only challenges were the Big Sister fights.
cyberpolice9000 7 months ago
@cyberpolice9000 well im not saying that bioshock 2 was harder. bioshock 1 was definitely harder then 2 but im saying that bioshock 2 was more fun to play. bioshock 1 is still a great and fun game to play but all the changes in bioshock 2 made the game alot more fun to play imo.
hhheeeccckkk526 7 months ago
@hhheeeccckkk526 nope bioshock 1 is better in litteraly everyway (except for duel plasmids) characters are better its more atmospheric its better storry has a better character is more fun, has more exploration is longer, its cooler, its BY THE RIGHT DEVELOPER unlike the second, its original.... ITS INCREDIBLE
SubliminalBen 6 months ago
@SubliminalBen do you know the meaning of the word "opinion"? i have mine and you have yours
hhheeeccckkk526 6 months ago
@hhheeeccckkk526 not only in creepiness
I prefer Bioshock's protagonist Jack to the Delta Big Daddy
danin900 6 months ago
@danin900 everyone is entitled to their opinion. i find bioshock 1 and 2 extremely fun but there is something in 2 that makes it so much better to me.
hhheeeccckkk526 6 months ago
