  • For the love of god...put them in warm up pants or the longest shorts possible...this is humiliating. LOL

  • @usnate1 How is it humiliating to them if they played in short shorts their entire career? lol they'd probably feel way more ridiculous wearing today's clownish quilt sized XXXL shorts - and remember this is 1984, so NOBODY with a basketball had even heard of longer shorts. I'm 25 and I play in rec leagues and even I think today's shorts look and feel a bit ridiculous, the mid 90's killed bball uniform style. They should at least bring back the '92 shorts so players don't so much like clowns

  • @dantheman9758 I agree the 90's shorts were the best of both worlds....but you have to admit that a man in his late 50's in short shorts only inspires me to hop on the treadmill...c'mon? I'm 29 and I play in just above if not at knee level shorts....the allen iverson era looked fuckin stupid though ya know, they looked liked skirts they were so baggy....it looked stupid too...the short shorts were better than those.

  • Oh man they revive this. MJ, Magic, and Clyde would still be able to play. Charles maybe not.

  • @uberathlete Lol, they sorta do play this - it's the celebrity game, Dominique Wilkins played in it... it isn't the same when Justin Bieber is also on the team though... It should just be past NBA superstars lol

  • imagine if they did this today. jordan would stick out his tongue trying to get air... and i dont mean vertically.

  • @ :11 seconds the game plan is laid out. NOBODY DIE OUT HERE.

  • NBA needs to bring this back, it would be a huge hit, just need to get Jordan.

  • you wonder why the nba doesnt do these anymore

  • @NIAHOW because of injuries to legends, NIAHOW. REPLY BACK.

  • Judge if you want to but even at their age at the time of this video if Rick Barry , the Big O, Nate , Pistol Pete, and throw me in, took the court on any play ground in America we'd have held court from NY to Oakland CA. NBA players even at the age they were in this post would win every time against any five play ground players. If you don't know that you never played against a pro.

  • R.I.P. Pete Maravich, Red Auerbach, Alex Hannum, Johnny "Red" Kerr and Dick McGuire.

  • If they brought the NBA ALL STAR LEGENDS GAME back, my dream lineup would be: WESTERN CONFERENCE: Hakeem Olajuwon Karl Malone David Robinson Mitch Richmond John Stockton EASTERN CONFERENCE: Patrick Ewing Alonzo Mourning Scottie Pippen Michael Jordan Muggsy Bogues
  • @kimv020887 damn straight....though I would throw Magic Johnson in for backup Lol

  • @nanichick5 don't forget Mark Price.

  • I think that the youngest in that old-timers game are Pete Maravich and Earl Monroe

  • Is Johnny Kerr wearing panties?

  • The fat guys in the short shorts and tight jerseys is probably the funniest thing I have seen in a while

  • awesome video

  • Lol that's Jerry West taking the oxygen mask

  • @Has1b thats rick barry not jerry west

  • @Has1b that's rick barry

  • they should put this shit back in the nba.

  • We actually had this game on videotape. This was the same year they brought back the dunk contest (Larry Nance defeated Dr. J). Yeah, some of the guys were a bit "elderly", but SOME of these guys definitely showed glimpses of their past greatness: Havlicek, Earl the Pearl, the Hawk, Pistol Pete, even Nate Thurmond. This was where I first saw the pecularities of the Big O's and Rick Barry's free throw shots. Peculiar but VERY ACCURATE!!!!

  • @Odawg96 dude somehow I just want to see this game so badly, are you going to convert the videotape into a DVD or what?

Put it onthe internet as torrent!

  • do you have the full game?

  • Interesting that there's guys who only retired 3-4 years earlier (Barry, Monroe, Unseld) mixing it up with guys who'd retired 15 years earlier. Great to see some footage of these games, I'd only seen a few seconds' worth before.

  • I love nate the greats block on barry. Wonder how many times he did that in practice.practice you talkin about practic. lol

  • yeah, you could do this now, but you'd have to keep a little younger. guys that recently retired, say within the last 5 years or so.

  • I also think they should do thid now. Im sure players like Kevin Willis, Chris Webber, The Barry Brothers (Jon and Brent), Kenny Smith and Steve Smith would love to do it. Maybe Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Steve Kerr could do too. I 'ont know about Charles Barkley.

  • If Wilt had played in this he probably would have killed some people.

  • Thats because he would've been in the best shape. Think about it, the man was offered a contract by the New Jersey Nets long after he retired. I think Wilt could've played 20 plus years if he wanted too. But he had other interest.

  • They stopped these games in the late 80's I think when they had a bunch of guys getting hurt during the games.

  • Lol, Rick Barry almost died

  • These old ass mufukkas gon break a hip, gotdamn

  • Kind of amazing those guys used to be that good. Still, Pistol Pete was playing 5 years earlier and actually got close to the finals when played with the Celtics that one year in 1979 with a rookie Larry Bird.

  • and if pete stuck around for another year he wins a title wouldn't that have been a perfect ending to a carreer

  • That would of been great and he would have been a great 6th man that year. Don't forget a year earlier in 1978 that the Celtic were bad. Then when Larry Bird played, his rookie he took them to the Conference finals and lost in 7 games.

  • They need to get rid of that skills competition and put this back in the All-Star game.

  • @najeenixonnixon I wanna see MJ do what he did again.. I agree

  • @najeenixonnixon imagine how great it would be to see barkley's fat ass against a healthy jordan of nowadays :D

  • NBA needs to do this game again. i want to see MJ f*ck some old players once again.

  • I think after Jamaal Wilkes broke his leg in one of these games that's when they quit. A few other dudes caught bad ones too. One.

  • Both David Thompson and Norm Nixon blew out knees in these games which is why the stopped it. Some of the games shows Bobby Jones, Iceman, Calvin Murphey and such to be in great shape. I would like to see it brought back played on by guys who stay in shape like Hakeem to reduce the risk of injury!

  • @willjamu Gotta stay on that stair climber! It's wild when you think of the great cardio guys had. A lot of guys retire and REALLY let themselves go.

  • The very concept of an old timer all stars is funny but borderline evil. You shove these retired player into the lime light to be a shadow of their former selves, a testament what the aging process does to you. The guys had long careers, countless injuries, they are unfit but still have the competitive fire... That will result into a endless string of new injuries, or aggravated old injuries. what a brain fart.

  • Leave it to Tommy Heinsohn to play some grab ass on the court.

  • great pass by Red Kerr R.I.P.

  • pete maravich could eat a bowl of cereal using a basketball for a bowl

  • or for a spoon

  • I mean at 0:50

  • Is that Hondo at 1:57

  • pistol pete was gr8est

  • Had some old fat toads croaking around out there. Someone could break a hip. I like Thurmond ejecting Rick Barry's shot. Nate is awesome!

  • they need to bring this into the nba all star weekend shit would be fire

  • The old timers all look overweight.Lol.

  • Those 50-year old men all look so fly in their skimpy shorts.

  • yeah bring this back during all star weekend and get rid of that stupid skills challenge and that shooting stars thing

  • yeah i agree about the shooting stars bullshit. anything that involves the WNBA is bound to be worthless

  • 01:42 looks like redd got a krazed stalker hahaha

  • NBA should bring this back.

Nique, Jordan, Bird, etc should be awesome.

  • What about Old-Timers-Game 2009? Magic vs Bird, Olajuwon vs Ewing, Drexler vs Jordan, Rodman vs Malone, Pippen vs Barkley, Damn.

  • My favourite play 00:53-00:56 :D

  • yea they should do this again like during all star break

  • They bstopped because of the injuries. Rememebr David Thompson? Blew out his knee during a game

  • haha nah i never knew

  • they have got to bring this back..its hlarious

  • Pistol looked just as impressive as his college days in those clips

  • Pete Maravich? He passed away at 40 in 1988

  • 46 seconds i meant

  • Look at pete at 46, he still had it

  • lol 1:25 wtf :DDD

  • amazing

  • Wow. This was a great stroll dowm memory lane.

  • They cancelled this event after David Thompson ripped his knee to shreds while trying to show that he could still jump like the old days. Decided it was kinda depresssin watching former world class athletes waddling around injuring themselves.

  • I believe they quit doing this game the year David Thompson tore his knee... too bad because it was kind of fun seeing these guys play one more time. It's probably the same reason (liability) they don't do the baseball old-timers games anymore.

  • maybe they should bring it back, i'd love to see old timers play again, although i've never seen a game before. Maybe they should force them to wear knee braces.

  • "hustling, drove and dived making up for lost time" mwhahahaha

johnny redd looks a REAL HOT MESS! that otha dude guarding redd was sooo gay...disgusting!

  • TibiabotNG

  • Were the other games featuring guys who had retired...less then 30 years before the game took place?

Seriously, those guys looked like they were about to die. I know basketball is a very intense sport physically but this just screamed bad idea.

  • This game was played in Denver, hence the oxygen.

In the 1990's they replaced the event with the rookie game.

  • Do they have old timer games? Wouldn't be nice to see Johnson and Bird at it again? And where is Jerry West?

  • @crestmere This was a bad idea. Just think about it. Here you have guys who retired from competitive basketball because their body could not handle it anymore. They are couple of years older and poorly conditioned. However, they are still intensely competitive and it's a televised game. All the ingredients for these guys to go out and get hurt. Which of course is exactly what happened.

  • @crestmere Bad idea no way. Fans the same age who play in 50 + leagues can relate. How ever old you are now if you're just sittin around on a couch makin fun of people out there still active and playing having fun living life instead of watching it, don't judge because you aren't in any position to do it in from a chair in front of a LCD. you do have an LCD or is your screen as lame as opinion.

  • This is the only time this event was done right?

  • No, there were more, but later on those games were called the Legends games.

  • Thats awesome I love it.
