I see PTA's career forming much the same way as Kubrick's did, in respect to Oscar achievement. Instead of garnering a ton of Oscars, Kubrick always just worked on his own, producing masterpiece after masterpiece and redefining cinema as we know it. PTA is capable of the same.
I'm glad No Country For Old Men won. It was an instant classic and the Coen's direction was genius. The tension they create sensational. There Will Be Blood gets better on repeat viewings. I wish There Will Be Blood had been released in 2005 or 2006 because it sure as hell deserved to beat Crash and the Departed
@iveywebb44 nah. i think There Will Be Blood, which is a film that i loved anmd considers the best film of the decade, woudn't win even if it was released in another year. it works like 2001, a film ahead of its time. if they could have an award after ten years, then There Will Be Blood will win it.
there will be blood would have won- for 1 year 2007 the academy decided to actually award great artistic films hence no country was allowed to win, no country was similarily uncomercial and beyond most audiences appreciation. unfortuantly that meant the lowest viewing figures ever so last year they gave a very average/sell out/comercial film the top honours- slumdog. now to cover both bases they have made it 10 nominations for best film.
Goddamn!! Last year I was all for No Country winning Best picture, but the more I reflect and look back and rewatch these two films I realize that There Will Be Blood is far and above the superior motion picture...
I'm glad, this New Zealander loves his American heroes, all those filmmakers that make me wanna go to America and tell stories there. I want to make my first movie here with American accents.....may fav :)
...it would definately have won (oops)

PTA is very unlucky, if There Will Be Blood had been released any other year, the year after for example (Its better than Slumdog Millionaire)

PTA and Wes Anderson are the two most entertaining and talented American directors making films today and by a large margin aswell

so true, there will be blood was just unlucky to come out the same year as another masterpiece, any other year it would have won best film.

i love pt, but this is one of the worst interviewers ive ever heard. His questions are all leading and multiple choice.

and to all this "baked" talk...he always looks/sounds hungover/baked
i think it's just his way of choosing particular words, so as not to give away too much of his filmmaking process

PTA is a little baked in here but still more talented, and eloquent than most current auteurs out there!
