Hmm... I loved Jim in Seasons 1 and 2. I think when the series first started the writers felt less pressure to stereotype/typecast characters. The Jim in the beginning was somehow more free, more relatable, more dynamic, more layered, more vulnerable/human. That was sexy :) But starting in Season 3 I like him less and less :( He started losing some niceness, became boring, one-dimensional, and SMUG!!!! Ugh, the SMUGNESS!

I was worried that Jim was universally liked in the US and he was an idealised "everyman". Good to others find his character nauseating, I'm sure it's intentional.

@Christianfaith1 Actually, I think it is clever writing the way the show plays with the perceptions of the characters. I started off disliking Michael and Dwight and liking Pam and Jim. But these initial impressions were changed as he show progressed. The Relationship between Pam and Jim starts form a "will they won't they" to "Come on hurry up, getting tedious" to "I don't really care now" to "Oh for crying out loud shit or get off the pot".
