Was playing civ5 with a buddy yesterday and he posed the question, "How come land units can throw a boat together on-the-fly as they march across the land, but it takes a city 120 years to build a workboat?" I've always thought the time scale is wonky in these civ games, if you do the math for how long in years it takes a city to build something. It gets kinda silly. 520 years to build swordsman? They better be the best damn swordsman in history!
in regards to your worker automation and micro managment, i for one would love to see how you set certain stuff up. even though not a total tutorial but the way you explain how and why you are doing things makes these civ lets plays fun to watch. dont mind at all with the extra bit of worker turns.
@frozenhell78 I agree but the basic stuff is really. farms nearby water, trade post if needed, lumber mill if u lack production (or want a boost). But I agree, watching a "complete" playthrough would be cool.
The reason the controls for the units is being so wonky is because you turned auto cycling off. Somehow that just screws stuff up. If you wake a unit you have to select a different unit or go do something else before it really wakes up. If the game tells you a unit needs orders and there are no units that need orders, again, select a different unit and it should get rid of it. Also, it will select units and may tell you it needs orders but it really doesn't, previous mission is still there.
Quill please go to war with the Iroquis ASAP! A lot of his units are moving towards Essen. Some through Kathmandu and others through Helsinki. The next 10-15 turns are your best shot. Once he deals with Germany you are his only challenger. He all ready went to war with the Chinese and took a city from them. Now he is about to wipe the weakened Germans. Please beat the guy, or he is gonna become a real pain in the ass for you.
The hotkey for fortifying a unit is the same as the hotkey for waking it up. You're pushing F to fortify a unit, but because you have auto unit scrolling turned off, the game doesn't select another unit after you fortified. You then get confused and spam F, waking that unit up again.
Hey quill, I just wanted to say...I know this is a video game commentary channel and all but, welll words simply can't describe the amount of joy when I see your vids in my sub box. I know it sounds kinda corny and all, but after a shitty day, there's few things more relaxing then watching someone play a strategy game. Wow I really sound like such a sap here...just keep up the good work mmkay? lol :)
hey quill, do you have the Denmark DLC? its pretty damn awesome.
Harald is a bastard to play against (no montezuma level, but his abilities are really good and his units even better) and fun as hell to play as in the mid game.
@holmborn I haven't played a game with him yet, but I suspect that, as with Polynesia, his abilities are either overpowered (island map) or useless (pangaea map).
Why are you not purcasing the cottontile next to Munich and the silvertile underneath Helsinki? Could've earned you some cheap happiness.

The "Unit Needs Orders" problem is just a glitch, pretty sure just clicking in and out of a city remedies it.

@NSWProduction Yup. Right-click on the map somewhere and it breaks you out of that loop.

dear Quill, I would like to know why you didn't listen and went to Germany. Deal with the Iroquis as soon as possible.
Sebas out.

plus, free pillages are allways nice.

@quill18 what do you think of Harald`?
holmborn 1 month ago
@holmborn I haven't played a game with him yet, but I suspect that, as with Polynesia, his abilities are either overpowered (island map) or useless (pangaea map).
quill18 1 month ago 8
@quill18 not really. his abilities are pretty good.
no movement for pillaging (free pillage all day, err day.)
no penalty for attacking across rivers.
and better embarks.
and Berserkers are 16 strength longswordsmen. AKA riflemen, before rifling.
and Norwegian Ski infantry is also really good. and they move really fast on snow. even though its rare to find it, you get an achievement for it :P.
and he has the best accent in the game IMO.
holmborn 1 month ago
@quill18 The embark wouldn't be useless on Pangaea anyway, due to coastal cities, as well as the pillaging and unit strength
