America always buys European technology. They bought in German rocket technology to get into space, they stole the first supersonic plane design from the Brits and called it their X1 when their own design was doomed to failure. They brought in Concorde to JFK and quit their own project. They have only just built a vertical take-off fighter plane, (but with heavy European input for Lockheed Martin),etc,etc.
