does anyone know if the wires used in helmholtz coils need to be insulated or will bare copper wires work too? I am trying to build one but it seems current is leaking because the wires are bare./...
@7ctebo An electromagnetic coil will not work without the wires being insulated. Else they just short out together and the electricity just takes the shortest possible route instead of actually flowing around the loops.
Why dont they use the same type of coils to solve the problem of containing fusion power plants plasma fields that also are just a stream of electrons rotating in a magneti field? I checked the specs and it only takes about 30v to run the Helholtz "containment coils" to bend the electron stream wich is running at about 100-500 VDC.
