That being said this was a choir competition and when the focus is put way too much on the main vocalist, the choir becomes backup singers - and this was a choir competition. I've always loved Patti's voice but ironically she's never thought she had the greatest voice. As far as not having any hit records lately - that's the music business. The same thing happened to Aretha, and there's no better voice in pop/r&b.

Can't understand why she cut the bridge in half, and missed out the second 8. If she sang the whole song we might be spared some of the embarassment of the high note at the end.

Frankly I see very well why she lost. She is too loud over everyone else. She think because she has a big mouth that it sound better than anyone else but thats not true. Its about the choirs and Nick Lachay Choir was better. Not Patty.
As a DIVA, you have earned the right to be loud and sing with your choir. Secondly, her name is 'PATTI', no Patty. Third, having a big voice (not mouth) is nothing to be ashamed of, and she was highly complimented for her efforts on the show.
This is NOT a performance at all. There's clearly a defect in the audio of this clip. The user had the volume at its max, when recorded. Anyone can clearly hear that... She's one of the greatest singers of all time.
I would have to agree that this was not one of her best performances, but the fact remains that noone can do it like Patti. This was an off night, but you wont find many of those over Her 40+ years in the light!

It's just a matter of personal preference. A lot of people wouldn't like this version because it was a very "Gospel-ized" version of the song. I liked this version and I think Judy Garland's version is extremely dull and boring, but again that's just personal preference.

I, like everyone else on this site, love Patti, but that does not mean every performanc she gives is grammy worthy. In this particular clip her voice is just not there. Something is missing. However, that is not to say she does not deliver at other times.

My opinion, but.. this isn't how "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" is supposed to be sang. It is suppose to be soft.. and dreamy. Dorothy sings this song as a young teenager, actually around the age of 12. Patti sounds like she's having a baby or something.

Patti rocked it hands down! At 63 years old, God is certainly still blessing her. People who know soul music from the heart and are not hating on her because they like another singer know that this was a good performance.
Patti is the real deal. Her performance was all that and a bag of chips. The winners were determined by call ins, Cincinnati got more call in votes. That doesn't diminish Patti or her choir one bit. The Cincinnati choir was playing for Children's Hospital-one of the finest pediatric hospitals in the country. Patti was great, but I'd have voted for Cincinnati to just to help the kids.
I cant think of any other singer who is Patti age still performing live on stage and gives you 100%. She always has been in a class by herself and very few has tried to duplicate an original song by Patti. The notes are far to high for the novice singer.

This performance shows what an incredible singer Pattie is. Her "choir" was only backup here. They no doubt can sing but they were often drowned out by Patti's powerful voice. It's true, this turned out to be more than just a talent contest. It was based on popularity as well. Nothing wrong with that. Team Lachey was amazing as well.
Patty won hands down and EVERY ONE OF THE OTHER CHOIR LEADERS SAID IT IN SO MANY WORDS. Frankly I see very well why she lost. She is too loud over everyone else. She think because she has a big mouth that it sound better than anyone else but thats not true. Its about the choirs and Nick Lachay Choir was better. Not Patty.

As a DIVA, you have earned the right to be loud and sing with your choir. Secondly, her name is 'PATTI', no Patty. Third, having a big voice (not mouth) is nothing to be ashamed of, and she was highly complimented for her efforts on the show.

This is NOT a performance at all. There's clearly a defect in the audio of this clip. The user had the volume at its max, when recorded. Anyone can clearly hear that... She's one of the greatest singers of all time.

I would have to agree that this was not one of her best performances, but the fact remains that noone can do it like Patti. This was an off night, but you wont find many of those over Her 40+ years in the light!

She can sing better than this now. This was during a time when she was having a lot of vocal issues. People forget that she was in her 60's when she did this. Check out "patti labelle i'll stand by you 2008."

It's just a matter of personal preference. A lot of people wouldn't like this version because it was a very "Gospel-ized" version of the song. I liked this version and I think Judy Garland's version is extremely dull and boring, but again that's just personal preference.

Hell yeah- Patti is FIRE, and her team DESERVED to win. I think they did it like a "whose more popular in this day and age" to decided the winner, but Patti should've won. I dont blame her for not sticking around wen they said she didnt win- that's like a slap to the essence of her being!

It is truly sad when one can not make a comment (postive or negative) about a performance without being accused of being a hater or being told to drop dead. I, like everyone else on this site, love Patti, but that does not mean every performanc she gives is grammy worthy. In this particular clip her voice is just not there. Something is missing. However, that is not to say she does not deliver at other times.

My opinion, but.. this isn't how "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" is supposed to be sang. It is suppose to be soft.. and dreamy. Dorothy sings this song as a young teenager, actually around the age of 12. Patti sounds like she's having a baby or something.

Patti is the real deal. Her performance was all that and a bag of chips. The winners were determined by call ins, Cincinnati got more call in votes. That doesn't diminish Patti or her choir one bit. The Cincinnati choir was playing for Children's Hospital-one of the finest pediatric hospitals in the country. Patti was great, but I'd have voted for Cincinnati to just to help the kids.

I cant think of any other singer who is Patti age still performing live on stage and gives you 100%. She always has been in a class by herself and very few has tried to duplicate an original song by Patti. The notes are far to high for the novice singer.

it's interesting. I watched it live, she sounded better that night. I think the transmission may have altered this is some way. My wife and I were standing up in our house when she sang this. She sounds a little pitchy now!!

Now you're right about this! All of these women you just named can't sing a lick. Like I said before you don't have to have talent to make it in the music industry today. All you need is a pretty face and you got a record deal. All the real talented diva's have either passed on or just gave up. But Patti is still kickin off the shoes and doing her thing. Yes I have heard her sing this better, but I still enjoyed it. Hello she is the star, I didnt see any of the other celebs refusing to sing there songs, this part of the competition was about them and the songs they are known for. As far as screaming, there is a difference between a powerful voice and screams. Wonder where the other celebs will be when they hit almost 50 years of performing on stage etc...

This performance shows what an incredible singer Pattie is. Her "choir" was only backup here. They no doubt can sing but they were often drowned out by Patti's powerful voice. It's true, this turned out to be more than just a talent contest. It was based on popularity as well. Nothing wrong with that. Team Lachey was amazing as well.

EACH NIGHT THEY WERE IN AWE AND SPEACHLESS, SAYING "WERE GOING TO LOCK YOU GUYS IN YOUR ROOM SO YOU CAN'T WIN" COME ON PEOPLE THIS WASN'T ABOUT THE BEST CHOIR!
