I don't think i can name many bands that can do so well while playing their songs live, especially when the vocals are so crafty and hard to sing. Geoff Tate sounds amazing, instruments are all in shape and Rockenfield makes the drums look so interesting and full of life, i love his drum rolls and odd beats sometimes...
@belzebrutt chris plays the same one all song on this video. do u mean in general? there are lots reasons to change gutars, tunings, feel, setups. the only black guitar is a bass. in this video be cool :)
3:01 lord chris starts his wonderfull solo with the colored one ...and then...after the solo when i jump out from the stage the guitar returns back (3:52)
4:28 colored one 4:48 BLACK ONE!!!and so it ends :D
I saw this dudes when they opened for KISS in 84 or 85 when Kiss was promoting the Animalize tour. Queensryche was coming out with Take Hold of the Flame tour. Queensryche blew them away !
@renedelafuente123 my first concert to!!.... and yes ryche ruled that show..and the thing is...kiss now has assclowns in makeup...but ryche is still jammin!!!
These Gentleman have helped me through a lot of hard times I remember listening to them with my brother whom i dont talk to anymore, they make me proud to say im from the Northwest!
yes ME TOO... I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the guitar in this, and in all their songs, could "zone out" to it, and then when Geoff adds to the "magic" with his INCREDIBLE vocals: WOW!
yes I love SPACEY guitar riffs, and I wish I could get hold of Neal "da Man" Schon from my band JOURNEY, I would LOVE to hear them do an ALL MUSIC CD of nothing but Jonathan's piano/keyboards, Neal's haunting guitar echoes, and bring back the etheral native sound of Steve Perry, and Arnel's chants as well, all of it...
Was lucky to see this show/tour in Amsterdam with Lynch Mob opening for them. Then went and caught Dread Zepplin for a midnight show at the Paradiso. That was a magic nite in '91!
I hate to not hear it as well, but you have to take in to account this was one of a few encores....AFTER he had sung most of EMPIRE and ALL of Operation Mindcrime. My vocal chords fail just THINKING about that. Then do it on an almost NIGHTLY basis!! Pretty amazing.
Geoff Tate is really amazing live. Very little rock vocalists can be compared to him as well as to his magnificent, charismatic personality that he presents on a stage.
I miss Chris Degarmo. He's an awesome and talented guitar player and songwriter. I guess he's happier bing a pilot. Anyway, thanks for posting. Awesome song!
One of my favorite bands from back then. Just saw them in St. Paul, MN about months ago and they still kick ass! One of the best vocals in hard rock. First time I saw them they opened for KISS here in about 1985, I have loved them since..Thanks!
I agree with the Rockenfield statements he is tight as hell. The whole band are exceptional musicians. I doubt Tate smoked, he did a stint in opera. You'd think he'd be smarter than that. Any way he still sounds great. Vocal chords get old and worn out just like any other body part.
Geoff has been an on again off again smoker for his entire career..
being a singer myself.. i can vouch for the fact that when one quits smoking.. it changes the voice in an uncomfortable manner.. it's an adaptable change... but if you sing as a career.. it could change your voice to the point that you may lose that career
Damn! One of my favorites with a lot of meaning to it. Sure miss them days and songs. I think I seen this tour, not sure, but they opened for Kiss. I remember the Drumkit set-up.
I notice he dont hit ( all ) of them high notes like he used to .. but still freaking amazing .. My sister just saw them last week in Flagstaff . I'm jealous of her I never seen QR but I love them !!!
Scott has the absolute BEST sounding set of drums and percussive setup in all of rock and roll! Always has! In the studio albums you can really hear the tightness and clarity in his playing, nothing is mushed. I can't explain it - it's just there! Beautiful sound!
imagine how you would feel you,if you would knew that you HAD an incredible vocal range and technique but yau cant do it anymore...and in so young years he had his full range just for 8 years.... i would go crazy!
I agree that he lost a lot of his vocal range but i think this was his best point of vocal range and voice maturity for Tate and also the best sound setting for the band!!!!!!!
Just because he skipt the F scream in the begining! He hits an E 3:56-3:58 into this live performance that may not be his best but still a really top metal performance and it´s only half a step between E and F so the lost of range is not alot at all!
i agree 100% flaggius, this band is probally the best live band ever and BAND one of my favs of all time! and they still sound amazing today!! i love the emotion they put into their music!
I remember being at all three (Madison, La Crosse and Milwaukee and to this day - they have few equals.
