  • What program is used to make these types of magazines?

  • @Soldier957 You have to code them.

  • @deeboiz Do you know or are you guessing? There are many programs that do similar things like dreamweaver etc. Just thought they'd use something like that and save many, many man-hours...

  • @Soldier957 I am a developer. At current it doesn't look like this kind of thing is drag and drop

  • @deeboiz Shame. Looking forward to the day anyone can make these types of things. :)

  • Watch @ 2:16 when they use elements from ESPN's Fantasy Football website for a SI magazine.

  • Don't get what's happening, but it looks like the magazines for iPad are actually a big fail and not what they promissed to be. A missed opportunity.

  • asian bridals here # lushfmlk.info #

  • Great looking digital duplicate.

  • Decent, but i dont like all the buttons... way too confusing. simplfy it or something. I like sports im not a nerd. some 40 click options on a screen? no thanks... i want my money back.

  • there should really be an ipad version this big...

  • great video!

  • Looks like a great app - maybe with all of the money they make from it they can pay for some therapy for the hands of the poor guy doing the demo who seems to be suffering some sort of rigor mortis

  • nice video!

  • sweet swimsuit.... <3

  • They might actually have wanted to tape this with a real camera, the hands are killing a good promo.

  • that's shit ><'

  • Nice looking device, like the Swimsuit Issue. Very cool!

  • LOL they are using nfl blitz sounds for the demo.

  • looks like the ipad

  • @AaronBesson I def agree with your point of veiw, if Apple hadnt come out with the iphone we would still have some crappy smart phones

  • i just hope they dont make this magazines more expensive than the paper ones.

  • that hands are sooo fake.....

  • And people make fun of the iPad....I should be making fun of you for still reading on paper. This is the future and if you don't agree then please hurry up and die so us forward looking people can enjoy it.

  • the newsstand used for the final clip is on 82nd st and broadway in new york city. that is filene's basement behind the stand. that is an IRT stop.

  • I prefer my videos from TV, news from my papers and games from my game consoles.

  • @maxlimitzz Games are still from game consoles, nobody was playing 2k10 in this video. You can still watch shows on tv...and news from paper only means cutting down more trees. Did you watch the video? It's literally the exact same thing as a printed SI magazine, but the owner can flick through more photos (and even watch videos) than the page initially had on the printed version.

  • @SpursSaintsMedia Finland has a lot of trees. Problem with cutting trees is with African countries as far as I know. I love it how relaxing it is to touch and smell paper while you read it and eat at the same time without the fear of getting some milk on top of an expensive machine that has too small screen to be able to enjoy the images.

  • They have something like this for USA today and Pop science on the ipad. They're cool but each company does the user interaction different. So it's a learning curve with each magazine to know what is clickable.

  • Thats so awsome

I lice sports well im a basketball fan

But i want this much fuk it ima buy the wifi version lol i already hav an iphone

  • This would be even cooler if the iPad wasn't a complete joke.

  • @mc10089 : why would you say the ipad is a joke? just wondering.

  • What's the deal with all that AWFUL SOUND EFFECTS?

  • uhmmiau piep wer hat mich lieb , bin so einsam heute , jmand lust zu chilln

  • Woah.

  • omg is this real?

  • Yeah.

  • I love to know, from those who own laptop/tablet hybrids, how much time they spend using it just as a flat tablet ala the iPad. I suspect it is a small percentage. I'm guessing that one of the first things that iPad owners will do is buy a viewing stand and a keyboard and maybe a bluetooth touchpad.

  • the problem with existing tablets is that they have horrible user interface and software.

the ipad (next gen touch tablets and user interfaces) hopefully will bridge the great hard ware with new software and user experience

the apple ipad will be like the iphone was, it will make apples competitors rethink their products and software.

even if you dont like the iPad (or iPhone) you gotta thank it for helping technology, software and user interfaces evolve through competition.

  • @AaronBesson the ipad is not next gen touch tablet. It is the FIRST gen of a series of tablets already done by other companies. It's not even a full computer (no multitasking or full version of computer apps) Don't get me wrong I love the ipad, but it's not that special technologically. The greatest thing the ipad has is a pretty package and a great app store.

  • @AaronBesson So true man, so true.

  • @AaronBesson I dont like it but I am thankful as Tablet user since 2006 that the ipad forces competition

  • @AaronBesson Apple are really great innovators. They make products better by putting things that they innovated. However, I believe they destroyed their own devices. In 2007, I walk upon an Apple Store to check the iPhone out. I asked the kind employees how I would copy and paste text. They said I can't, so I didn't buy the phone. A lot of simple stuff went missing and were only applied now, which means they went backwards and the role of the competitors this day is to improve what Apple started

  • @AaronBesson The iPad has indeed helped technology along. However, as for competition as the current flurry of patent lawsuits proves... its going to be a messy business. These patent disputes and big companies like apple being litigious could stifle innovation expecially in smaller companies. Don't ask me what the solution is however. Without patents, companies would not spend the money on R&D like they do.

  • Tablets, I hope, will be used in the future as the Padd's used in Star Trek TNG, cheap items with good software that people pass between them and that can be kept in a small pile on the induction pad equipped sideboard in the living room to be used as needed. "Dad, I've found one of the datapad's down the back of the sofa again...."

  • it's so longggggggggggg lol

  • @thanhpluv That's what she said.

  • Guy at 1:00 is missing a leg.

  • You know... if this would've been shown at the iPad unveil event, I think I would have been a lot more excited about the iPad!

  • If this is available on the iPad, I'm *so* subscribed...

  • Beautiful.

  • wonderfactory is the shortname for "Awesome absolut cool technical wonders" :-)

    Great example Video!

For me as a photographer this could be a useful tool to show my customers my portfolio, ideas and so on - everywhere!

The screen of a mobile phone is to small to give customers this experience..

  • I wasn't even going to get an iPad until I saw this! Seems like a very innovative way to experience media. I wonder if this is going to be compatible for the iPhone.

  • @dreburch

Totally agreed! I think the success of the iPad may depend more on what is done by third-party developers as opposed to the actual hardware itself.

  • I love how when during the demo, the 'Game Alert' pops up on the screen with 'Dodgers' spelled 'Dogers'... SI misspells Los Angeles' team name? And I'm first to catch it? LOL...

  • Thats how you do it!

  • THIS is the future! :0

  • does it come with a button to put some meat on the bones of the swimsuit models? Always been too skinny to be attractive.

  • Yes please give em a cheeseburger.

  • hey, thats very cool! ;)... i take 2! ;)...(;

  • this is awesome

  • I agree with texasguy8973, people who've actually used it say that if you didn't have that much bezel you'd be pressing buttons with your thumbs when you held it.

  • 2:22 My favorite Part!

  • This is cool. Hopefully iPad compatible.

  • Pretty damn sweet.

  • pretty awesome.

  • this guy sounds like alex jones..cant wait to get all my mags like this.

  • yeah, somethin everyone loves: more anoying ads

    fail

  • I don't like the hand graphics!

  • thats a real hand HAHAHA!!!!!!

  • True but the bezel is there so that one can hold the iPad without touching the screen.

  • I can already GUARANTEE that this will come to the iPad in either a standalone-app form or a future Apple-supported magazine store. I dont' know when, and I don't know how, but I do know it will.

  • I guess that this is based on Adobe Flex and Air what means that it is flash.

The Apple Ipad doesn´t support flash :/

So I hope that it will be realizable in HTML5,too.

  • That's only if this is a webapp. No chance it's a web app.

  • Considering I'm running the HTM5 Beta, and it ran quite wonderfully on my browser, I'd say, "Yeah, it's in HTML5."

  • Please get this and other Time, Inc magazines on the iPad.. please! I would subscribe to so many magazines if they were delivered electronically.

  • wow, they figured out how dynamic content can be on a pc... in 2010... when we have pcs for 2 decades... way to go!

maybe in 2020 theyll figure out how to use a mouse and keyboard to access and manage content, and do it on a full sized screen!

  • Wow, let me know what tech advances you've perfected.

This stuff is like magic, and we Americans just keep saying, "waaah, it won't open flash, or waaah, it costs a week's pay..."

no wonder we're losing to China, we have a bunch of spoiled media consumers complaining that the latest widget won't open their beer.

    --mcget/philly

  • As Brian Eno said - not enough Africa in the computer. This is a welcome advance

  • Your mum is an neanderthal jock... do you care about her?

  • You are obviously retarded. Cant be easy.

  • @hostile

Complaining about how other people complain? Interesting. Let's be honest, the iPad was a let down, and Steve Jobs needs to loosen his Nazi like grip on what people are allowed to do with their devices, aka no flash because flash apps could introduces unregulated games and tools that don't go thru their stupid app store. LAME. - sent from my iPhone

  • Listen, we all need to cool down and ask an unbiased source, like Al Gore.

  • LOL, that's funny...

  • Stupid its just a giant Ipod touch. Why didnt they just make a touch screen labtop.

  • @nicklauswarner Wow idiot, labtop? WTF? It is laptop.

  • I just hope the publishing industry gets the price points right. I would pay 10 cents a day for NYT access, but if they think they can charge hard copy prices for digital content, then they can forget it.

  • iPad iPad iPad iPad!!!

  • Did he really encourage folks to download and save copyrighted photos out of the magazine? Very sorry to see that...

  • Most trees harvested for use as paper was grown for that purpose to begin with. It's building houses, not getting the wood for the houses, but making the space for them that kills more trees than anything else.

  • Many less dead trees for our children to enjoy!

  • For the record, there are more trees in North America now than when we arrived here a few hundred years. Not saying anything, it's just an interesting fact.

  • Completely false, there is less than 1/3rd the amount of trees than when the english first arrived. Brazil is even worse, so quit spreading lies.

  • That is an out and out lie and complete fabrication. It was discussed in several of my Botany classes over the years. It's called science, check into it. Don't just believe what you read on Shitbird McEndrick's Super Greenpeace A Okay website.

  • You forgot to add in all the farmland currently in use that used to be tree covered. So your Botany class must have been taught by a moron.

  • If I wanted to read it that way I would do it online...

  • it is online, but without all the unneeded weight of a laptop, wednesday the 27th is going to be stellar.

  • Wow, the future is a tablet a flash? How exciting.

  • Kind of like the tablets in 2001: A Space Odyssey then. But I'm going to stick with my macbook pro for now. I don't need a sole gadget for reading news. And the other feats I've heard about this presumed gadget isn't making it for me either.

  • This is an impressive gadget, but I imagine it would be quite expensive.

  • rumors are $599 to $999, we'll know wednesday for sure.

  • Weak....

  • Not anymore, Apple just announced they will be introducing one next week, so the NetbookNavigator had a short life.

  • Well technically haven't announced, but it's pretty much assumed. Remember when Apple announced the iPod Touch with cameras? ;)

  • @MattMuzic spam spam spam spam

  • Is he using an amputated arm to work it??

  • Yes! why didn't they use a real person to show the features? Looks curious....

  • @Bippo85 It was just a proof of concept thing, like a "Here's what it could do!" sorta deal. But come next Wednesday it could become reality.

  • The save the trees and get them a rest comments crack me up. What would you rather have in a landfill, a million magazines, or a million tablets?

  • A million tablets, of course. That way, when aliens come to investigate why all life on the earth died out 1000 years from now, they can at least see we were an advanced civliization.

  • more like 100 million magazines seeping colored chemicals into the ground water as they decomposes...

  • id pick the tablets, did you remember how much people live by just two tablets!!?? Now you have an idea of the power of dictatorship when i got a million!

  • Deforestation is a serious problem, so don't make light of it.

It wouldn't be "a million magazines" OR "a million tablets" since "1" tablet would represent 1000's of magazines over its useful life of about 8 years.

we'll see what Apple introduces on Jan 27th, that's when the ball starts rolling to rid ourselves as much as possible of killing trees just to read a magazine, book or newspaper for a few minutes or a few hours.

  • - Finally we aproach the time when we will give the trees some rest.

  • "stop hugging trees, then need a rest!"

  • What a fucking lame video? Not the device or what it could do....but what's up with the stupid plastic hand bullshit? Are you to scared to use a real person to demo your product?

  • There are probably many kids here that think this is wonderful but i am not sure if they have the capacity to think! What will most likely happen is that the selling price (books, magazines, etc) will not reflect the savings and they will be able to control what you have on your device and how long you have it for. This is not good for the consumer. It is not a good idea that content providers decide how you have access to information (be they Apple Microsoft or Google).

  • 0:43 "fine" lawl

  • I hope you don't have to carry around a creepy manikin hand to use as a stylus tho'!

  • Do I need another electronic product to add to my cumbersome life?

How many other things you have to carry around with you 24/7 to keep you up-to-date?

  • As in all new applications. The porn industry will pick up on it first and people will buy it for that purpose and a lot will get sold and then the price will come down,

  • WOW - a jumbo sized iPod Touch!!!!

  • Hopefully, the tablets won't be expensive...if they are, the only benefit I see in using tablet magazines is, of course, reducing paper usage...

  • For those wondering if Apple's upcoming tablet will be this good or better, it'll blow this away. Think about it, you'll have OSX/Unix behind the core. Plus, the ability to run multiple apps too? Damn.

  • uses the same icons as the iPod touch/iPhone does...hmmm

  • This is NOT about the hardware but the SOFTWARE, about the open FORMAT what magazines are right doing that you can view their CONTENT on wanted devices. This is just a demo how EASY it is to use their CONTENT on devices what has a multitouch screen. But you can use those as well on normal computer.

And this is rumored that one big driver for this direction has be the Apple's possible coming tablet. Apple needs partners to bring content to devices and that this is about!

  • Content Publishes all making their own e-readers that do nothing else are a giant fucking fail. You guys should forget about making hardware & concentrate on making an open standard format that magazines, newspapers, books, etc can all use to create content.

What they're doing now is like if all music players & phones decided they were gonna make their own music format that you could only use with that brand of player. Its a stupid idea & is doomed for failure. Just stop.

  • Please tell me peestandingup is not that stupid...

Where in here did it say time was making hardware?

    Go get a clue.

  • @jahrends Use your brain. Of course Time is not "making" the tablet, like building a factory & making it. But its their own tablet, with their brand on it, with access to their own publications.

If you dont see a problem with this then I dont know what to tell you.

  • Who said they were making their own tablet? This is about the software running on a tablet device, not the hardware. Use your brain.

  • Apple is making a tablet. What matters anyway is that this is the future of publishing. In less than 10 years there will no longer be magazines or books printed on mass. Good news for trees, the enviroment and anyone producing content for publsihing. Steve Jobs at Apple also wants to tranform the world of Unniversity text books by doing away with the clunky expensive printed versions and make them available through itunes as rentals.
