Have to admit this dorothy is rather annoying and also this song sounds so much better as a choral piece. Doing it with mydrama group and we [the jitterbugs] all come on with black leggings and black tops but with white gloves and socks, then they shine a uv light and all you can see is the jitterbugs hand and feet and it looks amazing :Dx
We recently did the wizard of oz. (definatly not professional but we had backstage singers. I will upload some videos but it was taken with my ipod touch so sound and video pretty bad!. I did the sound so there is a laptop and other sound and lighting equipment in the fore ground!
the jitter bug dance was good but they should jitterbug vocals, like people backstage singing the jitterbug psrt but not dancing. thats what my play is doing . i can sing and act but not as good at dancing. and i play a monkey

This seems like an excellent production, great set, choreography and dancers, but Dorothy is absolutely unbearable. Dorothy is supposed to be a very sweet and innocent girl that you WANT to protect, not an obnoxious screaming brat that you want to punch in the face.
@hollowptsmile I agree. It seems that people have not been exposed to quality entertainment and are so hungry for satisfaction that they are not as discerning or enlighted about good music, dancing, acting, and singing.
I agree, Dorothy is screaming too much. Another annoyance is The Scarecrow putting his hand up to his face all the time. These are things the Director should correct the actors on. As for the choreography, it's partly there, but not entirely realized.

The actor portraying the Scarecrow puts his hand up to his face too much. He also looks around too much. He grabs the Lion's tail with too much weight. A straw man would have been pulled forward more. He'd have to grab the tail with both hands.
@faunafx3 The dancing is not so much the problem. There's not enough variety in the choreography. The chorus has enought choreography that works. But they are not doing a "Jitterbug" dance. When they couple up, it should be a double time swing step. Some Swing Dance components would have helped this.
Dorothy screams WAY too much, and it would be overwhelming for the crowd with the mic on. Other than that I thought it was a great performance! I think the main 4 characters could've used a little more choreography when they were alone, but it looks great!
@bmartin713 It appears that the director was not clear about the blocking, or did not direct the actors in their positioning during the dialogue set up. There is too much unmotivated walking around, particularly the Tin Man. If they are really frightened, they'd stick together, not separate. The director should have realizzed this.
@prozakk70 i was the flautist in a performance of it a couple of months ago, its a difficult score but the jitterbug sounds fantastic when the orchestra play it well :)

The lighting and Jitterbug choreography were both good, but the acoustics (and therefore the vocals) were running on empty.
