People didn't know the troubles of smoking back in the '60's. That is why it was they were able to advertise this stuff. However, they found out that smoking leads to heart disease... which eventually helped created many groups.

People make a big deal about this commercial, but they forget that even the Looney Tunes had tabaco use and strange themes at times. At that point in time, smoking wasn't a problem and even made people look cool... it was the whole "Bad ass" factor. It really didn't become a problem until the 80's and 90's.

Younger people might think this is very odd, but the Flintstones was a primetime show back then and considered an animated adult sitcom.
