• Wtf

  • This was the way it was back then...GET OVER IT! Just admire it for what it is, a slice of nostalgia, and move on. And, yes, I would still say it if a family member died due to smoking.

  • wow that encourages kids the right way!!! :P

  • @CODvideoPRODUCTIONS this was an adult show then

  • @will83tnt

And you're sure youngsters didn't watch it? I'm not! As a matter of fact... i watched the Flintstones in my youth, which happened to be in the 60's...

  • @buffelone o.O 60's daang wish i coulda met george

  • @will83tnt

But well.... it's a long time go, and we've learned since then. And yet there's still a lot to learn!

  • Winston sponsored the entire first season of the flinstones.

  • Kids back then shouldn't hav watched that, cause the people who smoke today are those kids who watched this back then.

  • @TheSecretShow4You this was an adult show!!

  • @will83tnt omg, really? i never knew that! i though this show was for kids and they made a smoking commercial. My bad sorry =( But still, kids do watch it. i hope they don't see this commercial.

  • Just product placement of the day. Fortunately we've learned and grown since then.

  • Winston tastes good like a... (click click) ...cigarette should.

  • WTF was this on commercials back in the 60's that a shock for me to see fred and barney smoke winston

  • smoking is terrible

  • There'd be very serious UPROAR if this was done now.

  • I am Outraged! I am no longer buying my children Post Fruity Pebbles!

  • @billydumont fruity pebbles never advertised cigarettes lol

  • pass the kush barn...

  • Dude, that is just wrong

  • lol they didn't know any better

  • I was mad when it didn't turn out to be weed

  • but it tastles good like a it should

  • LOLZ

  • its funny how gigantic those sigarettes are for them :P

  • Yeah, that's real appropriate, Hanna-Barbera.

I mean, when I have kids one day, I wouldn't let them watch this, but still it is cool to see old banned cartoons every once in a while. "The Flintstones" were freakin' hilarious!

  • @bslatky see, back in the day, most things revolved around cigarettes lol

  • Ha, prehistoric zippo!

  • Wnston has it here where it counts, up front? Are you kidding me?

  • Awesome...

  • Don´t smoke kids, it´s stupidt.

  • Another favorite Fred and Barney sharing a Smoke

  • I always knew that Barney was a bad influence!

  • they didnt knew its bad........

  • if this was banned, people must have smoked too much of those back then. just because characters from a childrens cartoon is in a cigarette commercial doesnt mean it is going to influence children. people are real stupid these days

  • Lmfao!! You'd get hanged if you put this on TV today!!!

  • didnt kids watch this at the time??!

  • No, Flintstones and all other cartoons wa aimed at adults.

  • yeah the did but no1 cared cause no1 knew smoking was bad for you

  • You'd never ever ever get this nowadays.

  • i love the flintstones!!

  • things have changed

  • tht blinking Winston billboard at the Bedrock town entrance is too funny lol..

  • ahhh.... winston. flavor. happyness.

  • "Lets go around back where we can't see em " lololol

  • I know that was hilarious! haha.

  • get over it guys

  • No, this was an adult cartoon that came on at night, back in the 60's. I get so tired of people tiptoeing around, passing judgement on things they don't know about.

  • Um, I was just saying that this kinda shook things up because when I watched it I was a kid. -_-

No need to get to anal.

  • Yep, this show was originally aired for adults.

People didn't know the troubles of smoking back in the '60's. That is why it was they were able to advertise this stuff. However, they found out that smoking leads to heart disease... which eventually helped created many groups.

  • LOL WUT.

  • wow i know this is real

  • this is trying to make Kids Smoke

  • this raped my image of my fav cartoon as a kid. :(

  • The Flintstones is a rip off of the Honeymooners and bolth were marketed for adults. The modern version is the Simpsons or Family Guy.

  • this kind of shit fuck up the whole cartoon and the company hanna barbara. instead of advertising something useful they advertise this shit. if i was the owner i would not be doing this kind of shit even if my cartoons where about smoking but then it will be part of the cartoons and it won't be advertising any brand i make just make 1 up..

  • The cigarette for lazy people...

  • It doesn't matter if children see cartoon characters smoking. Parents will take care of their children.

However I do agree, that this advertisement is 'misplaced'. Children shouldn't think of smoking as a positive thing to do.

  • and to think now they sell fruty pebbels

  • its just so obvious with the commercial xD PAINFULLY pbvious before they do the whole sponsor thing doesnt look like they were takin a real ciggarette break at all

  • flinstone like many programs was sponsered by cigarettes popular shows likje phil silvers show was spondsered by camel and would have breaks with him/co-cast smokin.

  • howd it go from this to fruity pebbles lmao.

  • hahahahahahahaha thats osom

  • like a CLIK CLIK cigarette should..

  • Holy shit

  • Wow this is just...wrong!

  • Haven't they used smoking scenes before in the show?

  • SMOKE.

  • XD JAJAJAJAJAJJJAJAJA

  • I can't decide if this is cool or pure evil.

  • have the flinstones no shame?

  • ''lets go around back were we cant see um'' looooooooooooooooooooooooool

  • ah ah ah lmfao may be i should have a smoke may be a winston ah ah ah rich

  • Comment removed

  • Holy crap, how the Winston packet is detailed compared to everything else

  • the winston pack look over-sized on this cartoon

  • People make a big deal about this commercial, but they forget that even the Looney Tunes had tabaco use and strange themes at times. At that point in time, smoking wasn't a problem and even made people look cool... it was the whole "Bad ass" factor. It really didn't become a problem until the 80's and 90's.

  • heh winston were avalible even on the stone age. Meh Im glad I dont smoke these shits

  • 0:18, LMAO

  • Too bad they werent smoking a blunt.

  • it just shows that the flintstones wasnt a kids show

  • Just like Betty Boop!

  • They had tobacco way back then?

And yes,as shown in a Gary Larson/Far Side cartoon.

Dinosaurs were smokers-thus "The reason why Dinosaurs went exinct".

  • Ahh.the good old days cigarette commercials and TV shows like Gunsmoke.

  • your kidding me!

  • I'm going to go buy a Winston's now! LOL!

  • Geesh,Fred,I hope you and Joe Pesci there catch a freaking enphycemy...lol

  • FAIL!!!!!

  • That´s kinda surreal.^^

  • is this real?????:P or just fake? how old is it:)

  • its real

smoking was much more prevelant back then

and this was very common to kids and adults

  • Extra irony: All of the actors who portrayed the characters in this clip died of smoking-related diseases (Fred: heart attack, Barney: emphysema, Wilma & Betty: lung cancer). Nice!

  • Dude!

  • dude....

  • This is so funny! lmao

  • Back then, people didn't really know about the dangers of smoking. Once the smoking-death link was discovered, stuff like this was avoided like the plague.

  • Maybe not. I read an old book dated from the 50s to 60s which explains the dangers of smoking. But not concise as like it's explained today. And the Flintstones back then are considered a cartoon catered to an older demographic, like the Simpsons.

  • people knew it was dangerous.. do u think ur grandpha started smoking when he was 5??? LOLXD

  • Hey Olem. The Flintstones was on in prime time in the early 1960's. I used to watch them then. So the commercials were targeted to adults.

  • haha thats just great:P thx for enswear

  • People knew it was dangerous....Many people were aware of that since its inception. This was just made before the govt. and public opinion grew against smoking.

  • Fuck yeah. They should do this again, especially with the bitches doing the work.

  • Winston cigarettes suck.

  • Almost everybody smoked back in those days.

My grandparents told me that they knew people who would smoke in class, and get away with it... as long as the windows were open.

Back then, the dangers of cancer were pretty much unheard of.

  • My grandfather was well known for teaching his classes while smoking non-stop. He died of lung cancer for some reason. Go figure.

  • Unbelievable by today's standards.

  • my teacher told me about this but I never actually believe him......

  • No way... is this actually real?

  • Well, at least Fred was a gentleman and lit Wilma's cigarette for her lol. So strange to see them smoking. Different generation I guess

  • I wish they still did this kind of thing. Who wouldn't want to see one of the Veggie Tales light up a Cancer stick on Saturday mornings?

  • is this a real commercial !

  • Was..

  • Winston filter cigarettes now with 25% more cancer

  • now you see why theres no more episodes

  • Thats not why

  • they banned the show cuz cigarette commercials......they wanted crack commercials

  • its a commercial

  • yes very smart.

  • Awesome!

  • Fred Flinstone: Hey kids! Smoking is GOOD for you!

  • wow, if fred and barney are smoking, then it must be ok. can't wait to light up right after nap time. i'll be the coolest kid in the 4th grade.

  • It still doesn't make smoking look cool!

Shame on you Fred and Barney!

  • lol i hope they're not smoking weed, or they gonna be the flinstoned

  • Barney! My Winstons!!!

  • eh heh heh heh

  • wow, this is crazy!

  • This has jogged my memory and I remember this!! Too much! I was really little and it didnt make me want to smoke, because my mother already did, and I found it a ansty habit. Too cool to see after all this time!

  • wow, not only was this aimed at getting kids to staret smoking but it also managed to be incredibly sexist as well

  • no wonder the dinosaurs went extinct...

  • I watched the Flintstones smoke. Now I want to smoke. I will die prematurely because of the Flintstones. I will sue Fred.

  • hilarious.

  • they had lighters?

  • Pfft, Luckies tastes better.

  • lol

  • Is it true that the dinosaurs died out from passive smoking?

  • lol

  • Actually, volcanic eruptions that spread fumes across the world contributed to the extinction of dinosaurs. So I guess yo're right.

  • Calm down dude, it's just some thing I heard on the Discovery Channel. I dunno if it's proven or anything, it's just a fun fact to point out in this context.

PS: Don't swear for no reason, it looks weird.

  • lol thought they were smokin a joint from the screencap

  • smokeing is soooooooooooo bad for u! fuck these people on here who want to smoke!!!

  • winston tastes good like a ciggarette should! :)

  • winston tastes good like a ciggarette should! :)

  • No ashtray?

     Oh, those cavemen!

  • I was just a kid when the Flintstones first came on, I don't remember there being Winston commercials but it was a long time ago. Younger people might think this is very odd, but the Flintstones was a primetime show back then and considered an animated adult sitcom. I'm trying to quit now and I find watching all these old ads on You Tube good therapy, as they are mostly incredibly stupid.

  • The good old days, when you could smoke and not be treated like a child molester.

  • but little did they know they would all get lung caner...

  • only in america. (as far as i know)

  • :))) hilarious commercial! but I don`t like Winston :)) can`t you add a Kent commercial?

  • this is dumb one day everybody will no that cigeretts kill

  • One day everybody will know how to spell.

  • dream on timkick, dream on.

    ;)

  • they made this in the 1960's just to get little kids to smoke i watched this commercial at my school we did a dare class and we looked at the flinstone commercial and little people are still smoking but, thankful to God im not going smoking! I'll never smoke in my entire life and i hope noone will and your right LordBababa1 the reason why they don't show the ingredient is because it has 400 chemicals that can't fit in a small box of cigars so they won't 'cause if they did people wont buy them.

  • how dumb can you be, THEY WERE MAKING AN INVESTMENT IN THE NEW GENERATION OF KIDS, IT PAID OFF, THAT POISON IS STILL AROUND. STOP THE CYCLE NOW, BOYCOTT NOW!!!

  • Why? I doubt nobody knew the effects of smoking back then.

  • why?

    5 million dead

a major company lying to generations of children.

Astronomical medical costs to companies who push that cost on the consumer.

    God, what will it take?

  • Oh, they knew. They just didn't care. In fact, if the smoking ban wasn't placed in advertisment and mothers were so voiced these days... I'm sure you'd see Pikachu and the Spongebob smoking.

  • how did they know?

  • I agree with you completely!!! You said it buddy!!! You said it!!!

  • A little wierd that they did this with cartoon characters, but you really do have to consider, too, that this cartoon was also meant to be a primetime show when it started out. Sure cartoons are appealing to children now, but this show wasn't exactly intended for kids. It was sort of like Family Guy or Futurama today, just not as funny.

  • Lol, capitalism at its finest!

We need commercials like that again.

Weed out those dumb enough to smoke...

  • U S A ! U S A ! U S A ! U S A !

  • lol This is a hilarious video.

  • its a commerccial idiots

  • im trowing out my Fruity Pebbles cereal

  • If you smoke, your face will be worse than theirs in 00:36

  • thanks for the claification CrowThuman, maybe i was thinking of all the Malt Liquor Commercials, as in Colt 45 Malt Liquor.

  • jajajaja quien diria!

  • Unbelievable in every way! But how the HELL could they have not seized the opportunity to refer to the brand as Winstones?

  • Unbelievable

  • what the flintstones havin a smoke i never see something like that

  • just shows how times have changed.

In the 50s and part of the 60s ALL television shows had sponsors, not random commercials.

Beer, liquor, and cigarette companies all sponsored shows.

I got news for you youngsters out there, but it use to be hip to smoke.

The bliss of ignorance, to smoke and not know it's bad for you.

Everyone in the movies, on television use to smoke.

Anyone who smoked could do it anywhere they wanted.

  • Not liquor. Liquor commercials didn't appear on American TV until this century. There was no law against just a "50 year self-imposed ban." I'd put a link to an NPR transcript about it but YouTube doesn't seem to like posts with links in them.

  • thanks for the claification CrowThuman, maybe i was thinking of all the Malt Liquor Commercials, as in Colt 45 Malt Liquor.

  • Not only hip! Did you notice how SEXY Wilma looks with a cigarette in her mouth? Hubba, hubba!

  • I smoke, but this is shit, their brain washing people to smoke through this commercial. Even if you think it's only a comm, the thing gets in you subconscios area and finally you get to try their product.

  • ...and that Sir/Madam, is why you smoke!
