carreer began as a puppet movement co'ordinator to jim henson

and collaborated with henson on the 85 puppet movie musical

fantasy labyrinth with david bowie and jennifer connelly when

cheryl launched her carreer in star trek tng she adopted gates

because they had allread an actress called cheryl ladd and

thats why gates mcfadden is credited

That has to be the greatest entrance of any guest on any show ever. I did a convention with Gates McFadden in London in 2006 and she was absolutely delightful. Really engaging, down-to-earth, extremely knowledgeable, cultured, polite and very warm. It was the highlight of my week to meet and speak with her for the whole day.

I love Gates and found her wonderful in Star Trek as Beverly Crusher however I have to say, I went to see the premiare of First Contact in Dublin years ago where she was signing autographs after te movie. She was very cold and stand-offish to the fans. I was a shame as it spoilt my image of her.

Poor thing was probably overaroused and overwhelmed by all the fans hording around her. Give her a break. I've also read that despite her being bubbly and outgoing, she's almost as sensitive as the quiet Beverly.

I know a woman who worked as a tech on the set of ST:TNG for a couple years (she also did a couple other sci-fi shows) and she gave me the lowdown on the cast: Gates McFadden was really stuck up and wouldn't talk to the "little people." Brent Spiner was also a jerk at times. Marina Sirtis had weight problems and the producers kept making her stay in shape. Everyone else was nice.

@funkervogt47 McFadden might of been stand-off-ish with crew because of an incident that happened during the first season. I seem to remember a sexual harassment thing or something. This is why she was not on the show in the 2nd season. (Patrick Stewart convinced her to return) This might explain why she kept to herself and only interacted with the other actors.

@kcirish Thats why I would never want to meet anyone famous, because if I liked them as an actor or actress I don't want to meet them in real life and find out they are total pricks or cunts.Since I've always had the biggest crush on Gates,I am glad I have never been to a Star Trek convention. I'd rather keep my own fantasy image of her when she was young and still on the set of Star Trek back in the late 80's early 90's.Most famous people are stuck up and rude like that.I hear that all the time

@kcirish Gates gets migraine headaches from the photographers' flashes at events like this. It's not her fault. If she seemed cold in Dublin, it might have been for this reason. She has stated on many occasions that she is really grateful to her fans for sticking up for her when the producers of STTNG let her go after season 1.

That being said, she is an intensely private person who seems to consider the publicity something that is necessary rather than something that is fun.
