The original (2001-2002) was a very good and realistic mil sim, but this new, purely Codemasters-made series is nothing but a hodge-podge that doesn't even know what it wants to be. It tries to appeal to the sim and arcade shooter crowd simultaneously, but fails with both.
Codemasters ruined the whole OFP series. Play Operation Flashpoint: Cold war crisis, developed by Bohemia Interactive, and you will understand.
DR just had a lot of bugs that never were fixed, no story at all with no cutscenes, poor mission design, poor campaign, stupid AI, boring gameplay, unrealistic compared to the orginal OFP, and restricting map editor, unstable MP etcetc.
It's a shit game and it's boring. Not because it's realistic but because it just is.
This game had so many bugs. sometime the bots wil just stand there doing nothing, even when youre dieing plus AI in multiplayer. And the walking, I spent the first hour walking and walking and walking. This game IS worse than socom. This game is UNPLAYABLE! Operation Flashpiss Dragoncrap

I didn't find this game to be fun (FOR THE PS3 MIND YOU) because I spent way too much time running around in the middle of nowhere forever, just to die and do it all over again. @Blackwido88 I understand what you're saying, bro. It is one of the interesting things about putting a game like this on consoles. There are niche audiences for a wide range of simulations in the PC market, but the console market goes about as far as the sports genre, and beyond that nothing sells.
I mean, there are farming simulators. Helicopter simulators too. That stuff just doesn't translate to the console audience, and really only occupies a small one on PC to begin with.

Bohemia Interactive Studios made ArmA which is the most awesome simulation game ever for combat(argueably). fuck code masters and fuck operation flashpoint 2009 onwards, because the early ones were awesome.
@8your88 The game is pretty fun, better with friends. But this games takes way more skill than call of duty or any other first person shooter. I played on normal and its harder that black ops on veteran. The game is a little slow but if you like a very realistic game then you will love it. Operation Flashpoint: Red River comes out today by the way.
@Blackwido88 if you have a good computer you ought to take a crack at arma2, there is a mission editor and you can set insurgents at points close to you, or you can be inserted via helicopter and the action can be instantaneous,its a little buggy but your AI is reliable, coop is amazing, the game isn't scripted so when your ac130-j Hercules gets whacked and you don't have critical air support, well that's a bitch to say the least

Yeah the game is really bad, but I don't think you should complain about the realistic gameplay and reloding times when the developers say it's going to be a very realistic game. The bazook realoding for example is very realistic, you can't just hold a heavy bazooka with one hand and putting the ammo in with the other hand alá Bad Company 2 style, the game is bad but it's a very realistic game, and if you don't like realistic games you shoudn't buy them!

I've finished it it was great. Suppressive fire that was actually suppressing, fire support missions that were actually realistic, bullet drop, tactics, strategy, ROE.. great game. Gotta get ArmA 2 now.

I can live with realism, and thats one of the reasons why I thought it would be good to play. As it turns out, only retards enjoyed the Multiplayer...The single player was actually pretty fun to play with friends.

Speaking of which, I've had no graphics problems - and I have an ancient peice of crap for a computer. Basically though, this game isn't for most people, it's not cod and its not battlefield. It's an entry level ArmA, a game for people who are nuts about the military, people who know about spindrift, the curiolis effect, dopage.. etc. It's pretty good for what it is, but most wont like it.

Couple good things about this game though. I liked that you got injured in different body points and made you immobile ect. You slowed down and got winded ect. def to slow especially weapons switching ect. We need socom 2 with 16vs16 & accurate guns w/ real balistics (no more silenced mp5 sniper shots) with bullet drop and flight time, no lag and about 40 maps. & for fucks sake no tracers on every bullet so everyone knows where you are when sniping! my S2 name VILE = 722k/746headshots w/MP5s LOL
Hehe if you want online action, play counter-strike or call of duty :) this game is more about tactical egagement and tries to simulate war. If you dont like simulators stay away games called Operation Flashpoint or Arma.
I love both of genres. Simulation and arcade. Simulation lasts longer though but its harder to get into

It definitely didn't feel realistic, unless you're talking about flying a helicopter. Everything else just seemed too slow, broken and just plain old boring. @Blackwido88 I tried it yesterday, and it didnt feel like Operation flashpoint at all. It was like a total new game with horrible graphics (horrible colors and sunset, too much bloom). It was like a dumbed down consol-version of OFP (I played it on PC). I deleted the game right away.
The graphics seemed over 5 years old or something and everything about it made me just wanna stop playing it. Bad sounds, the guns didnt feel realistic and the meny where u order your squad around was chaotic

You know some OFP 2? I know just FPS OF:DR for while. I do not say, that OF:DR is worst game on the world, but developers fucked with ppl, that they bought their game. They do not provide any support already. No training in the game, no editor tutorials and more.

Yea man, the console version sucks even more than the PC version. If you want realism, you should try Arma 2. It's a PC game and requires some powerful hardware, but it's the closest deal of warfare I've seen in a video game. I'm sure you've heard of it before. If not, just search some youtube vids. FPDR is filled with fucking bugs and glitches, let alone dumbass squad mates who seem like they never passed SOI/ITB. Give Arma 2 a try though, if realism is your thing.

Have to disagree m8, Flashpoint is amazing as you said its a SIMULATOR and more realistic than any other military game EVER. You seem to favour arcade and I think arcade sucks. The reason its AI and not players is bcoz of the map size and I like big maps, its more realistic. In Socom if someone fires a sniper round I instantly no where they are within 2-3 locations-in Flashpoint he could be anywhere. Try using the Binoculars with laser designator for Sniping ya plum...

Playing MULTIPLAYER is not about sitting on each others lap, it means playing with more than 1 player thats what MULTIPLAYER means!

I have also never seen AI get stuck behind objects and I have completed the game and got my Platinum trophy for it. I have no problem with 8 v 8. I also dont mind much about graphics because as with alot of great games gameplay makes you overlook graphics. 32-64 was on PC platform and I dont have glitches in it either so if anyones the idiot its you my boy because over 550,000 of us bought it...
@Slayer2029 Xbox 360 version, friend had a 50MB 3MB upload connection.....we played on that and the vechicles still glitched around and lagged for EVERYONE. Your an idiot, if you noticed I said on the old Flashpoint it was 32 players on the old xbox.

This game sucks, DONT buy it. Ive played trough the hole story and played the multiplayer part sometime. Its slow, the AI is dumb, ESPECIALLY the medic called Moralez. His moral standards suck because he runs around not doing shit or getting killed due to his lame as tactical movements. The online sucks like this guys says so much your going to get frustrated as hell. For a game to begin it takes about 2-10 min. You play about 15 min. Just because your great at helicopter bombing the other team
While I do agree with you about this game being a pile of shit, I do have to disagree with your statement about video games becoming larger by the majority. IF anything I see most games being carbon copies of Halo or CoD4 which, to me is boring, repetitive run and gun bullshit. Many actually enjoy some of the long-range, slowed down tactical gameplay of much better games like this like ArmA II and the realitymod. While the run and gun crowd is stuffed, realism players are starved.
But again, I Really do have to agree with you, this game is one of the shittiest examples of a realism game that I've ever seen in my life. I don't remember many of the graphics settings but the weapon sway was atrocious, I do appreciate the animations however. The mission designs were brutally stupid, the AI was terrible, the multiplayer was garbage. While the game SHOULD be restricted to PC that's probably why it sucked so bad. Console development killed it, dumbed it down.
yeah when the game first came out (I'm not sure if they patched it, I haven't played since) there was a problem if the game was lagging horribly due to the host all bullets stopped registering so you could stand toe to toe with people and shoot each other in the face 200 times and no one would die because there was 300 other A.i shooting making waay too much lag for the host to handle.
no jeeps? all of the multiplayer maps have at least 4, and the one that has 4 also has 2 tanks, 2 helicopters, and 6 APC's. This game is awesome, you probably just suck at it.

@8your88 The game is pretty fun, better with friends. But this games takes way more skill than call of duty or any other first person shooter. I played on normal and its harder that black ops on veteran. The game is a little slow but if you like a very realistic game then you will love it. Operation Flashpoint: Red River comes out today by the way.

@Blackwido88 if you have a good computer you ought to take a crack at arma2, there is a mission editor and you can set insurgents at points close to you, or you can be inserted via helicopter and the action can be instantaneous,its a little buggy but your AI is reliable, coop is amazing, the game isn't scripted so when your ac130-j Hercules gets whacked and you don't have critical air support, well that's a bitch to say the least

Yeah the game is really bad, but I don't think you should complain about the realistic gameplay and reloding times when the developers say it's going to be a very realistic game. The bazook realoding for example is very realistic, you can't just hold a heavy bazooka with one hand and putting the ammo in with the other hand alá Bad Company 2 style, the game is bad but it's a very realistic game, and if you don't like realistic games you shoudn't buy them!

I can live with realism, and thats one of the reasons why I thought it would be good to play. Speaking of which, I've had no graphics problems - and I have an ancient peice of crap for a computer. Basically though, this game isn't for most people, it's not cod and its not battlefield. It's an entry level ArmA, a game for people who are nuts about the military, people who know about spindrift, the curiolis effect, dopage.. etc. It's pretty good for what it is, but most wont like it.

Couple good things about this game though. I liked that you got injured in different body points and made you immobile ect. You slowed down and got winded ect. def to slow especially weapons switching ect. We need socom 2 with 16vs16 & accurate guns w/ real balistics (no more silenced mp5 sniper shots) with bullet drop and flight time, no lag and about 40 maps. & for fucks sake no tracers on every bullet so everyone knows where you are when sniping! my S2 name VILE = 722k/746headshots w/MP5s LOL

@gameduct You know what? The single player was not all that bad. It felt pretty realistic in my opinion. The online however, just felt completely different. It definitely didn't feel realistic, unless you're talking about flying a helicopter. Everything else just seemed too slow, broken and just plain old boring. @Blackwido88 I tried it yesterday, and it didnt feel like Operation flashpoint at all. It was like a total new game with horrible graphics (horrible colors and sunset, too much bloom). It was like a dumbed down consol-version of OFP (I played it on PC). I deleted the game right away.
The graphics seemed over 5 years old or something and everything about it made me just wanna stop playing it. Bad sounds, the guns didnt feel realistic and the meny where u order your squad around was chaotic

I guess it does suck if you bought a new copy and can't return the game. $60 down the toilet.I personally like it. It is not a simulator, since war cannot be replicated virtually, but it is quite the tactical shooter. Not polished enough though. I do agree with your review, nothing in your review was false, I'm just stating that if you don't like it, just don't play it. But I guess that changes when you can't get your $60 back. Yea man, the console version sucks even more than the PC version. If you want realism, you should try Arma 2. It's a PC game and requires some powerful hardware, but it's the closest deal of warfare I've seen in a video game. I'm sure you've heard of it before. If not, just search some youtube vids. FPDR is filled with fucking bugs and glitches, let alone dumbass squad mates who seem like they never passed SOI/ITB. Give Arma 2 a try though, if realism is your thing.

Have to disagree m8, Flashpoint is amazing as you said its a SIMULATOR and more realistic than any other military game EVER. You seem to favour arcade and I think arcade sucks. The reason its AI and not players is bcoz of the map size and I like big maps, its more realistic. In Socom if someone fires a sniper round I instantly no where they are within 2-3 locations-in Flashpoint he could be anywhere. Try using the Binoculars with laser designator for Sniping ya plum...

No, its fought on open ground with plenty of space between them, not packed in2 something so small you are running in2 enemy booby-traps every 2 secs, it is the most realistic war you can engage in on a console. Playing MULTIPLAYER is not about sitting on each others lap, it means playing with more than 1 player thats what MULTIPLAYER means!

Some textures are weak but Tanks, Heli's etc are all immaculate and although the faces are not great when you shoot them they are amazing and I especially like shooting someone on a mounted gun and watch him slouch over it with his face tore up, it never looses its appeal-Wouldn't get that in any 'child friendly' COD or Socom, we are lucky to see blood effects fs...

I have also never seen AI get stuck behind objects and I have completed the game and got my Platinum trophy for it. I have no problem with 8 v 8. This game sucks, DONT buy it. Ive played trough the hole story and played the multiplayer part sometime. Its slow, the AI is dumb, ESPECIALLY the medic called Moralez. His moral standards suck because he runs around not doing shit or getting killed due to his lame as tactical movements. The online sucks like this guys says so much your going to get frustrated as hell. For a game to begin it takes about 2-10 min. You play about 15 min. Just because your great at helicopter bombing the other team

While I do agree with you about this game being a pile of shit, I do have to disagree with your statement about video games becoming larger by the majority. IF anything I see most games being carbon copies of Halo or CoD4 which, to me is boring, repetitive run and gun bullshit. Many actually enjoy some of the long-range, slowed down tactical gameplay of much better games like this like ArmA II and the realitymod. While the run and gun crowd is stuffed, realism players are starved.

But again, I Really do have to agree with you, this game is one of the shittiest examples of a realism game that I've ever seen in my life. I don't remember many of the graphics settings but the weapon sway was atrocious, I do appreciate the animations however. The mission designs were brutally stupid, the AI was terrible, the multiplayer was garbage. While the game SHOULD be restricted to PC that's probably why it sucked so bad. Console development killed it, dumbed it down.

yeah when the game first came out (I'm not sure if they patched it, I haven't played since) there was a problem if the game was lagging horribly due to the host all bullets stopped registering so you could stand toe to toe with people and shoot each other in the face 200 times and no one would die because there was 300 other A.i shooting making waay too much lag for the host to handle.

no jeeps? all of the multiplayer maps have at least 4, and the one that has 4 also has 2 tanks, 2 helicopters, and 6 APC's. This game is awesome, you probably just suck at it.
