  • I this routine should have taken first.

  • I like this military routine better than hillcrest. You guys should have won state :)

  • my god, this dance is amazing. well done.

  • that was so sharp!

  • hell yeah baby, im gonna be joinin these girls next year!

  • O.O this is like perfection! Literally. I liked this one better than the people that got 1st place.

This is gonna be an inspiration to me and my team (since only 2 other teammates are left and everyone left, we got all new girls).

Seriously, keep it up girls. They're amazing!

  • Wolę taniec hip-hop niż elementy gimnastyczne itp ale ogólnie cool :)

  • what song is this??

  • yeah!! SFL. :) I love performing military routines. I'm excited for this coming year. good job to all the schools. good luck this year to everyone!

  • way to represent for the WEST SIDE schools :)... even though hunter is our rival

my school cyprus doesnt do headstands in their military but i dont get why.. i mean have you ever seen a team place 1st or 2nd in the military category nowadays w/ out headstands in their routine?.. and we're going 5A next yr to compete w/ these teams lol!

anyways.. any videos of cyprus spinnakers routines?

  • yes, i have seen military routines done by 4A schools take either 1st, 2nd, or place in the top 3 at region and at state. in 2006-2007 cyprus took 1st in military at region but lost to granger. And granger took 3rd at state and came in 2nd place overall in that year too. so it can be done.

    :)

and i know why granger and cyprus don't do headstands in military.

  • yes.. although the other west side schools cyprus, kearns, granger allll need to step it up!!! kearns drill team last yr was TERRIBLE lmao.. no offense

  • umm step it up? how? if you're talking about incorporating headstands into military, i HIGHLY doubt granger and cyprus will ever do it...i know the coaches and adeena(from granger) hates headstands. she thinks everyone copied hillcrest and her daughter got an injury from headstands, she's a spartonian. and kearns wasn't terrible...i actually think they should've gone to state instead of riverton. kearns' military was the shit but they didn't place because they did a trick that was not permitted.

  • itd just be nice to see a west side school like granger cyprus or kearns(and hunter even though they did step it up) that you dont hear too much from, take it! and take out those powerhouses like bingham, hillcrest, brighton, davis, etc! and granger and cyprus will get their chances next year by going 5A! also.. i didnt know 5A this yr dropped prop to do kick as the third category!! HOW INTERESTING :)

  • Hey Copper Hills is West side and they do headstands every year.

  • They have done a really good job!

  • wooh wooh west side huntah pride jiyah

    anybody attend hunter here?

  • WOW my friends want me to try out for hunter drill but idk haha i don't think i am that good at head stands lol wow that was amazing!!

  • would you be willing to put up

    Hunter's Dance Routine?

It was one of my favorites.

    :)

  • I will try to find it.

  • I'm so glad someone actually posted one of our dances!!! it's about time . . . ha ha

  • you are welcome. Hunter really did good in 2008. Good luck next year!

  • that was phenominal

  • Wow HUNTER? They really popped out of nowhere. By the way this was my favorite military of 2008. I almost peed my pants. So good, most intense, high energy, great execution, claps for taking risks that this team pulled off. I think all the POWERHOUSE teams should really keep a close i on this team because i think they are gonna beat the socks off of everyone else this January/February.

  • powerhouse teams meaning? hillcrest, bingham, brighton, lone peak, davis?

  • Some secrets are not shared.

  • Drill team gets better every year!!! These girls are AMAZING! Ten years ago on drill we would have never thought to stand on our heads?? Now everyone is going it!!

  • I first saw this dance at state and i loved it! They didn't execute it as well as hillcrest but i like the choreography and music much better. Hunter did very well this year:D

  • I enjoyed this dance a lot more than Hillcrests. They were both amazing but this one was more entertaining and original.

  • Dance? This is Military.

  • I'm glad you said you enjoyed it more than HD love when people are open to a degree... Entertaining is kind of personal basis.. Original? okay I can see that but just know Hillcrest has started a lot of choreography trends...(even used in that dance)...The thing that separates Hunter from Hillcrest, is not how they hit a certain count but how they get into and out of that count.. i personally enjoy hillcrest more because they have beautiful flexibility wonderful carriage and focus on their feet!

  • What some people don't know is that Hunter didn't do headstands until two years ago. They refused to jump on board with everyone else and do the "trends" you give Hillcrest full credit for. It wasn't until two years ago that they had to swallow their pride and play along because the judges felt it wasn't "difficult" enough without standing on your head. My point is that sometimes you don't want to play along but you feel you have to to be competitive. Look at Hunter now!

  • Great point. With the change, Hunter not only beat Bingham at Region but also State. Bingham now should be worried about winning Region and getting the important placement for State. Good Luck Hunter.

  • Yep. You are right on. Since Hunter has done headstands Bingham hasn't beat them in Military at Region. I guess it helps to play along sometimes.

  • Bingham not only has figured that out, but takes it to the next level in blatantly copying and changing their routines based on other teams performances. Hunter's military was different and they had a great year winnig their region and placing 2nd at State. Bingham will have a tough challenge to beat Hunter ... which it has to do in order to have any chance at winning state. The placing of performances out of region is critical to scores at State.

  • Every team copies one team even Hillcrest, sorry but its true I have State Videos from the early 1990's to now. And there always seems to be a trend. But like all things I bet headstands will be replaced with something else. Kinda like those bad hair pieces they wore in like 1990-1996 were they would pull there hair back in a bun then clip a foot long rats nest on it... Bad but it was the "in" thing to do.

  • I agree that teams will look at prior years and incorporate similar moves, etc. Bingham, however, does not wait until the next year .. .they change their routines during the year after seeing other teams rountines. For example, after seeing Hillcrest's lifts in military in 2007, Bingham changed their 2007 military for region and state by incorporating the very same lifts. I personally hope headstands go away and never return.

  • Me too but I have a feeling they are going to be sticking around for a while. Why not? They take up 14 sets of 8 and make choreographers life easier! Sad but true.

  • Yes...the hairpieces you are talking about? Hillcrest wore them this year. Yikes.

  • HD did wear the hair pieces. I heard they hated putting them on .. a real pain. But for some of the routines they really added to the choreography. At least that is my opinion. Just watch .. next year several teams might wear them.

  • I think this deserved the placeing it got. I saw it at region too and it is just not very sharp. It may be creative but Military is more about the execution and sharpness of the routine and this just didnt have that. I really dont think you can tell how good a dance is until you see it in person, they look totally different.

  • I totally disagree ricka9118. I also saw this at Region and State and I thought they were hella sharp! Yes, there were a few mistakes but I don't think anyone at State was without a few bobbles. I think this team's musicality is incredible.

  • coach1ko -- sorry I accidently hit remove instead of approve on your last comment. Please send again and I will approve.

  • But from a judging standpoint, it was a little sloppy...Im not saying it wasnt good because it was...who knows mabey if they had executed it a little better they could have beat Hillcrest but they made mistakes and that is why they took 2nd.

  • Oops I meant 3rd.

  • this is way better than hilcrests even though there were more mistakes. If the judges were judging more on creativity than execution, this team would have taken first in this catagory. Great job!!

  • They don't judge largely if at all on creativity.. execution precision.. clean clean clean!! even dance, alot of these old judges can't get out of the 90's and understand artistry of today.. hunter did great!

  • HOLY COW! They should have taken state! They were much better than hillcrest!

  • Interesting opinion. Are you saying they should have State overall or just Military over Hillcrest? I am curious, can you tell me specifically how the judges got it wrong in all three routines where Hillcrest was judged higher than Hunter? I thought the real competition for Hillcrest was Northridge until their dancers collided during their dance routine. Do you really think Hunter's novelty and dance routines were better than Hillcrest's?

  • Interesting opinion. Hunter was much improved this year .. but not enough to take overall at State. This routine as a few mistakes in it .. look at the kick line for instance at 2:18 and at 2:40 far left split line .. not a complete split front girl, and the formations are off at 1:14.

  • I really respect your opinion. However Hillcrest always executes the hell out of everything to get those extra .5 points.. People may laugh at their facials, "wow" and "yeah" every other count but those .5 points can and have made the win.. Music plays a big part in it too. Hillcrest's music had something very different than most... Those sound effects with the pauses towards the end... very musical.. Same with Northridge, their music cuts out for a bit.. never seen it done purposely before

  • wow .. amazing. I can see why Hunter beat Bingham at Region and State.

  • Love it <3

  • THANKS for posting up this video...as i said earlier i didn't get to see any of the military routines at state.

    :D
