I started playing drums after hereing Sandy Nelson play wipeout, that was back in the 60s sence then Iv'e played with some of the top country stars like Jonny Paycheck Bobby Helms, and others Iv'e met some great people and travel all over the world, I'm in my 60s now and still play at some of the clubs around here in Zephyrhills Florida. Thanks to the great drummer Sandy Nelson. ...Chick.
Was just searchin' for a recording of teen beat & I stumbled onto this. I'm dumbfounded. It's really the MAN! He should be touring & doin' the late night talk show circuit or something. He deserves more recognition.
Hello Daniel. This is great. Thanks for posting.Sandy Nelson has another record coming out on the Nashville label SPINOUT. Eddie Angel from Los Straitjackets is producing.
His drum playing is incredable and so is Preston Ritters of "The Electric Prunes" on "I Had too much to drink last night." Check it out, type The Electric Prunes above and hear it. Its a cool reminder of our past.
If you guys want to talk to Sandy. You need to demand he get a computer and get on line. He is in Boulder City. Ask at the Coffee Cup and the owners can get ahold of him for you. He might be there from 1 pm to 2pm eating lunch.
The Coffee Cup closes at two. Anyway Sandy loves to talk we just have to get him to get a computer.
I learned to play it with 2 coat hangers on a chair. I left school at 15 & bought a set of cheap drums and started touring. I never took a lesson, I learned from records. I went on to tour the world for 45 years until I retired last month.
It's been a hell of a life and I owe it all to Sandy Nelsons ' Let there be Drums '.
