You know how chameleons can turn different color? Well, my dad plays in different tunings and different styles of music. That is why he calls himself the guitar chameleon.
Just randomly stumbled on this vid (it was a suggested vid for me), and gotta' say... Your dad's got some serious skill in both playing and writing. I'd love to see a tab for this also. Tell your dad that this is going to be stuck in my head for a long while now, great stuff!
I talked to my wife today about your video. We were sitting on one of those red London double-decker busses. She explained that the word 'chameleon' in the English language stands also for 'changing the colour'. I did not know that. This fits, of course, quite well to your father's guitar style, if it is that what it means.
I am an aficionado of your father's music! I like to listen to it over and over again! However, I would re-write the comment above as it is not crisp enough to the reader. The first sentence, in my opinion, is by far too long and makes me rather feel sleepy. As you are dealing already with a (very interesting) piece of lullaby and use, in addition, the wording of a (slow motion) chameleon it would be in, my view, better to use short sentences instead.
Its a simple song...its called "Scottish lullaby".. it would be my dads dream for all guitar players to play it...its in the DADGAD tuning..its a song he wrote for his father that is Scottish.
Every time I put this video on I feel invigorated. What a fabulous tune. So skillfully performed. Bravo to your dad!!! By the way where was this recorded? Hawaii? I think I can hear the sea in the background!!
Hah! Hawaii I wish but no, this was recorded in a small town called Santa Barbara. The sounds you are hearing are the cars passing by. We live next to the street but there is a beach near us as well ;)
that's crazy, he's a really great guitarist and all... but whats crazy is he has the same name as my stepdad... who also loves guitar... to be honest, hes not quite as good as your dad tho ^_^
@lars4690 Haha yes my dad has spoken highly of that man too. At the time, I just hadn't any idea of what to call this vid. Just wanted to upload it and make sure it'd catch peoples attention.
Hey everyone! I really do hope you actually read this....if any of you are wondering where he is playing next, the place is called Live Oaks. On June, 21.09 thanks for watching!
Hey I was 14 and dumb, wasn't thinking about some other title at the time. I just wanted to add this and see what comes of it. Wasn't quite thinking what would make a catchy title, but of course, some take it seriously. Sorry. But thanks anyways for commenting ;)
He and Michael Hedges changed how one approaches the acoustic guitar. All those below are awesome but based on composition and originality - never mind technical skill - those guys pretty much started fingerstyle.
Haha, yea, he's been doing that now for a while actually. This is an old vid. New ones on the way! You can look on youtube for him in a vid as well. I think it's shack somthing....sorry, I forgot the name.
Are you talking about the natural harmonics he plays every so often? all you do is lightly touch (but not press) the string above a fret corresponding to the note you want, and play the string. The strongest harmonics are at the 5th, 7th, 9th and 12th frets but with practice you can get them in more places.
Andrew Jackson is his name. I've forgotten the name though:( he's made so many songs, why not look him up on myspace...or facebook. He said he had a website.
If I'd just had a great BBQ meal on a sunny day, a couple glasses of good bergerac and a toot on a doobie, then this guy sat down and played for me, I daresay I'd vote for him as best acoustic guitarist in the world...
That was very nice, but I don't think Carlos Montoya, Sabicas, Julian Bream, or Segovia will be concerned about their place in history as a result of this clip.
I play about the same standard as your dad but sadly my kids are not just so impressed with me! I wish. Mine just leave the room. Nice tune your dad plays though.
Hmph, I am too busy to sit and listen anyways. He practices randomly sometimes. he'll just grab one of the 7 of his guitars and start making it up as he goes. I respect him though.
