  • FUCK YOU SOPA

  • @The656 I believe you have confused "SOPA" with the word "soap". Unless you were trying to be smart, because then you failed.

  • one of the funniest shows that's ever aired on television!

  • i love this show! and im 13!

  • @henryF6 haha awesome! Good to know younger people like this stuff too. I'm 15 :D

  • "I've always wanted to meet a Hawaiian ventriloquist";-).

Classic show that is worth rewatching once in a while. Especially loved the two sisters (Katherine Helmond and Cathryn Damon) and Billy Crystal and Ted Wass (Danny) was gorgeous.

  • Does anyone know what Bob says at 1:15? "I didn't fly 6 thousand miles to be ****" ... Thank you!

  • @missari24 "stiffed" ignored

  • @missari24 "to be stiffed." ... ignored. [coming from a piece of wood ... ]

  • ROFL!! Looove it!!

  • I love soap opera spoofs lol making fun of soap operas is so cool, this is the second one I've seen

  • What did Bob say to Jodie @ 4:19 ?

  • @mulusonic "I love Anita Bryant" she was a singer/beauty queen who was a anti-gay rights activist in the late 70s.

  • @GoldenGal42 she lost her gig as spokeswoman for the Florida Orange Juice Council because of it, too.

  • @mulusonic "I didn't fly 6000 miles to get stiffed."

  • I am watching first season on Netflix. Why does Benson ignore Eunice?

  • @davemoore52266 You know, I don't think they ever bothered explaining that. Probably just didn't like her.

  • Another great scene, if anyone has it, is the guys (with Bob) getting drunk in a bar.

  • @whatisbestinlife You can watch the series on netflix now. That seen is either before Jodie's or Danny's wedding. Both of which happen in Season two so. ^-^

  • "A son a week, I'm so exited" It's great how the expose daily soaps to ridicolousity.

  • wow this was just brilliant, remember watching this back in the mid to late 70''s, after the late news on itv, quite a show back then for tv, billy crystals first show i think, this was just so funny

  • I remember this so well. This show was a great hit here in Britain...

  • I miss the show, I never see it in syndication anymore :(

  • I was always impressed with this guy. It's so hard to sell ventriloquism and this guy did it once a week for years.

Lots of good comeback lines, too, from the others.

I always felt some lots of this was ad-libbed.

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • Jay Johnson and Bob, Rare. A ventriloquist actor is placed in a sketch situation, with Billy Crystal, and the great comic actor, Richard Mulligan. I believe this was Bergen's forte too on radio and in film.

  • This is the funniest show of all time...my mom use to send me to bed before it came on but I would sneak to watch it while she was laughing....Incredible Show! Mad funny every episode!!!

  • Hey it's "Harry" from the 'Golden Girls'!

  • I havr a secret crush on Jodie xDDD

  • This is so funny!!!!

  • I allways loved the scenes that had Chuck and Bob

  • The "soap opera" fans made a HUGE stink about this show, and wanted it off the air.. they felt they were "being made fun of" Crystal talked about it in an interview a few years ago that people were mad over him being in SOAP!! It was (and still is) very very funny!

  • BOB!!!! The greatest character in the history of television.

  • ...on second thought, i'd probably have to give the nod to Cosmo Kramer, with honorable mention to Al Bundy

  • Ah...how I miss SOAP!

  • thanks for the soap IRAN we can wash now in eurape and english can wash too

    theirs no one exempt

  • Great show!

And look how thin everyone was then.

  • They canclled the show a season earlier then they should of. Remember one of the mothers was taken hostage and they left the series as a cliff hanger only to be canclled the following year. I think it was the character Jessica who was kidnapped by central american guerillas and they threatened to kill her.

  • @sonypics2010 It was El Puerco that kidnapped her.

  • Yeah, I watched some episodes after posting. I don't want to spoil it for others but someone told me it wasn't until 5 years later on the TV Show (spinoff) Benson that it was revealed what had happened to Jessica.

  • We had a big chat about Soap in the pub recently, about whether it would still stand up as funny after all these years. So I downloaded the first season.......yep, still makes me chuckle.

  • As far as the kidnap is concerned, I'm sure there were a lot of scenes with her and El Puerco that were part of the the original Soap. I'm fairly certain there was a burgeoning romance between them. Although there's no reason why it wasn't back referenced in Benson.

  • one of the best

  • I remember this show fondly!! It was strictly for adults but

children watched it also!! It was absolutely hilarious!! It was

    very funny!! lol

  • 3:22..Holy fucking hell that was funnnny!!GREAT Comedy Series!!! They don't write 'em like this anymore.

  • is that a young billy crystal i see there ?

  • It certainly is. One of the first things he ever did.

  • @GoldenGal42 The first thing he ever did was All In The Family. He played Meathead's best friend, which Billy Crystal really is Rob Reiner's best friend in real life.

  • @AlJayRobins13 he was the first openly gay man/character in television :]

  • @AlJayRobins13

IIRC the character Billy Crystal played was the first gay character in an American TV show. Soap was groundbreaking and controversial at the time, but it was also one of the funniest TV shows ever.

  • Shame on me for forgetting how hilarious this brilliant show was/is, Thanks for posting it gg42

  • This is the forerunner to Arrested Development and The Office. "Soap" was 30 years too early.

  • @whatisbestinlife No, the other two were 30 years too late.

  • @whatisbestinlife: Don't forget "Modern Family" and "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia". You're right that the show was way before its time.

  • This was the best era in TV and Music history

  • Ahhhhhhh...... the memories, i too grew up watchin this great comedy series. Remember watchin this again on Paramount Comedy Channel a good few years ago & they screwed up by not playin the last episode. Ohhhh what i wud do to see all those episodes again (SIGH). Thanks man.

  • Danny was a major hottie back then! Chuck/Bob were by far the BEST part about Soap!

  • Billy Crystal was such a hottie!

  • Oh yea! And he aged well too

  • schade, dass es auf youtube keine deustche Fassung gibt.

War meiner erste Sitcom die ich sah.

  • I loved this show. Grew up with it. I loved the comedy. My 1st video is a comedy tvc. Check it out PRANKSTERS IN THE PARK

  • haha funny

  • Just about everyone of the main characters went on to have success with their own shows after Soap ended- Ted Wass, Richard Mulligan and of course the great Billy Crystal

  • And Robert Guillame

  • One of the greatest and whackiest sitcoms EVER - thanks for the memories :)

  • Hilarious! Billy Crystal was a riot.

  • This cast was phenomenol, every single one of them top-notch. Great show, great memories. Thanks!

  • omg i love jay johnson he is soo funny!!!

  • Funniest show EVER! XD

  • Funniest show and funniest character ever (Bob)! There were times I could not breathe I was laughing so hard. I remember how edgy Soap was for its time. It would be considered tame today.

  • I don't know about that. Remember how that crazy Jerry Farwell went off on the Teletubbies? And that was only like, ten years ago.

  • Just couldnt get enough of this,,,,the best!!

  • Jay Johnson actually had a talk show after SOAP ended.

  • Wait. Is that Mark Hammil?

  • Nope, Jay Johnson.

  • @Ev105

But he looks EXACTLY the same as "Luke Skywalker"... :D

  • Does anyone have the scene where Burt finds out he's dying? You'll almost cry before you bust out laughing. Also the one where Burts in the tub with Mary and tells her he's invisible. Please help

  • I have all the episodes but I still don't have a ripper to upload anymore onto my computer. Sorry.

P.S. Burt doesn't die, and I don't think he has a death scare. Your comment has made me question my Soap knowledge. Or by 'he' do you mean Jodie?

  • Nope, I've checked. Burt does have a death scare, but I still don' t have a ripper.

    Sorry, random comment. ^-^

  • I don't have the scene, but I remember it. Nice memory - from 1970's! LOL! I don't have the dics to upload - sorry..gonna buy the whole thing soon as it comes out on blue ray......if ever.

  • @dansteel1 i saw the tub one. wow. the case of peter's death made burt go nuts. bob wanted him put away. i'm not saying i agree with him, but under the surcomestances

  • Does anyone understand what Bob sais to Jodi at 4:19?

  • asalmog, Bob tells jodi, "I love Anita Bryant". She is/was a singer back in the early 60's or 70's who came out against gays.

  • love this show it is still funny

  • i remember watching this episode when i was in High School, Soap was always funny but when the puppet join the cast it got hilarious.

  • Chuck and Bob were originally only to be a temporary characters but since the audience loved them so much they kept them through the entire show.

  • Comment removed

  • I watched this episode when it first aired. I still think it's the funniest single moment of the series.

  • :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

    love it!!!!!

  • so funny!!!!!!! bert is an idiot.

  • i love jodie

  • Soap is fantastic. I adored it when I was a kid and having finally snapped them up on dvd I'm delighted to report it's as awesome as ever. Chuck and Bob are LEGENDS. LOL

  • Burt he's a dummy. I HEARD THAT! LOL!

  • "Up your kazoo butterfly". LOL!

  • I love the dummies voice

  • chuck/bob were definetaly my fave characters. adding in bert and the major, what a hoot!!!! XD

  • I think this guy (the ventriloquist) also was in CSI recently. The original Las Vegas series. He played the father of the serial killer who made the miniatures. It was a standing them for almost two seasons I think.

  • I'm trying to find a clip from the "Soap" episode where Chuck & Bob are arguing upstairs & Richard Mulligan says something like, "He's really got to put his foot down with that boy," or something like that....do you know which episode this is? Thx!

  • This was Chuck and Bob's very first appearance on the show.

  • I dont know of any other ventriloquist that breathes so much life into his figure. Johnson is so talented and so enthusiastic about what he does.

  • When I first saw Chuck/Bob, I thought...what the heck is it?

But they were so funny and didn't get enough air time on the show.

Way too much of Chester, not enough of Bob

  • "Way too much of Chester, not enough of Bob "

Man, you said it. It got frustrating near the end to watch Soap for my Chuck/Bob fix and get the kidney transplant storyline, the brain damage (?) storyline, etc. etc. etc....

Ah well - thank goodness for YouTube!

  • great clip thx for posting

  • I loved how the family eventually started answering Bob, like he was a real person.

  • What a classic series.

  • More, please.

  • I've got the police interview already up, and next I'm putting up the scene where Jodie puts Bob in the fridge.

  • Awesome, thanks!

  • How about the episode where Jodie stuck Bob in the fridge, and Chuck was going nuts looking for him, only to have Bert find him! That was funny as hell!Got that clip?

  • I'm trying to upload it - trust me, I really do want to - but my computer won't let me! I need to find a new dvd ripper. When I do that'll be the first clip up.

  • LOL That was funny:)

  • Chuck and Bob,Jodie,Burt,Jessica, and even Danny really made "Soap" funny-as-hell!Love that show!

  • I loved this show: alien Burt, Jessica with her guerrilla and so on.

  • I plan to put some other clips up, it's just hard to explain them all in the comment.

  • That would be great :-)

  • Several years ago Chuck and Bob appeared on I think it was one Rodney Dangerfiled's showcase. They were funnier than you'll ever see here. Jay himself is a brilliant ventriloquist. He did a solo piece with a guitar that showed his incredible gift.

  • You wouldn't happen to have a video of that, would you? Sounds good.

  • I wish I did have a clip. Jay was setting there with his guitar, and he made you believe there was some kind of little bug that went down the stairs into the guitar, like into a dungeon and was carrying on about it being dirty. It was brilliant. And on a ventriloquists show, he had Bob. And Bob dared Jay to do the old drinking water bit, and the way Bob said, "if you can do that, that's a trick." in that sly attitude. Needless to say Jay did it. It was funny and brilliant.

  • Chuck and Bob were brilliant. This whole scene was just a scream!!

  • LOL. Bob is such an a-hole.

  • i love jodie hes so funny

  • jodie...well, the only comedian in that time to play a gay character, and did better than all the actors in the show. thanku, billy crystal for taking the risk. you made the role fun.
