Hi. I have got this same lens, have bought it new about a year ago or so.
I noticed that there is a slight residual noise of sorts when I focus this lens that keeps going about a couple of seconds after focus. You need to listen to it in silence or close to your ear. I wonder if this is normal??
I find this rather weird. Do you have the same noise too??
@ RyanTheTuber what would be the difference between the Hybrid and L series lense for the 70-200mm IS f/2.8 USM. Do you know... and i am also looking to get it and the 24-70l 2.8.. and do you know approximately when... lots of questions.. i know.. :)
i would very much appreciate you answer on this cause i have been seeing it around on youtube, Thanks
if you don't mind me jumping in, which lens would you two recommend for a Canon 50d: the Canon 70-200f2.8 IS or the Canon 70-200 f/4 lens? I mostly shoot weddings (part time of course) Curretly I have two very old lenses that I still use and need to upgrade. any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Oh, I'm also leaning toward a Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 for group shots and all around lens.
no prob, you should search and read reviews of lenses to see if you really want them. You see, I'm just a shutterbug who coincedentally knows the lenses you want(because I also want them. LOL)
Can I use a Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III Telephoto Zoom Lens wth this camera?
Thanks.

Why didn't you go with the L lens?:(
Your lens is pretty expensive :D
RyanTheTuber 2 years ago
It is mainly because L lens are usually optimized for full frame camera. 17-55mm focal length is ideal for 40D. But I did have 70-200mm F4 L IS USM.

How do you like your 70-200 f4 lens? Do you use it as a wedding lens or ...?
whoppers1000 2 years ago
No, I use it for outdoor sports. The f4 is quite useless when you want to freeze motion in indoor / low light setting.
What I like about it is it is light and small compare to f/2.8 version, instantaneous auto focusing and IS works very well.
What I don't like is the whirling sound when IS is activated, F4 aperture, white finish.

true true
but "most" of the L lenses cause vignette on FF Dslrs... the 1.6x of the 40D eliminates that vignette :D
btw, is your F4 really really that sharp? I heard it was like a "prime lens."
RyanTheTuber 2 years ago
yes it is very sharp

oh... I'm thinking of getting a second-hand 70-200mm L \m/ :DDDDDDDDDD
I researched about it on crop sensor cameras and they say it works well

Have you considered the 24-70mm f/2.8L USM?
Remember, the 70-200 series require you to be about 1 foot away from your subject but for the 24-70, it's significantly shorter
BUT, if I were to choose between the two, I would choose the f/2.8L
BUT BUT, a new 70-200mm HYBRID-IS f/2.8 USM will come out later this year, you should wait xD
oh oh, since your shooting wedding events, I would recommend shorter focal lengths because of the fact that wedding ceremonies are usually cramped.
