  • It seems that this only works for Type One Diabetes, leaving all of us with Type II without an alternative (except for those of us who are insulin dependent, which I'm not). Is anyone working on something to help us?

  • i dont have diabetes, but i feel helpless for all of those everyday

  • Diabetes got me crying a lot. :(

  • i have type one diabetes and have the insulin pump..what i dont get is if they are making an artifical pump why they would use the insulin pump

  • Hello, I'm brazilian and I've whatched the notice on tv now.

What everybody needs to know is: Do the artificial pancreas takes liberty like a pump? I think the pump do it.. really.. A person stays with a pump hanged on body is terrible, not?

  • This is what I hate. I have type 1, and I do not, for the life of me, want to use a pump. I don't care that it's "more convenient" - I can not deal with having a tube inside of me hooked up to a machine, all day, every day.

  • @Niels827 tell me about it

im just 17 and have to walk around with that thing hooked to my body and i hate that

  • @elpapifresh08 but what's the problem the people with diabetis are going to be healthy. i don't thing they worry about it.

  • What a scam! This is not an artificial pancreas! The pancreas can also compensate for LOW glucose, by producing glucagon. An artificial pancreas will also need a glucagon pump to be REAL! Pathetic... this is just a closed-loop glucose/insulin device. What a scam!

  • @gjdepaula I agree, because the pancreas also produces 3 or more other enzymes to break down fats and proteins, but I guess this is as close as they can get...

  • @panic1844 It's false advertising. It's only 1/2 of an artificial pancreas, just a so called "closed-loop device". They are calling a 2-wheel vehicle a MOTORCYCLE, when it's just a BICYCLE. This is not as close as they can get. Many companies and universities are testing systems with 2 hormones (insulin and glucagon), besides monitoring the glucose level. Those may be called an ARTIFICIAL PANCREAS. This system here may NOT! Google "Damiano Russell Boston" and also "Pancreum", etc, etc.

  • @gjdepaula Yea I watched the vids and info u sent me but its still just aiming at diabetes (wich I know I will have to deal with someday) but it still doesnt replace the function of producing digestive enzymes to break dow foods...so its still just a partial pancreas..

  • @panic1844 True. But digestive enzymes are also produced by the stomach, liver and instestine to break down the food. The theme here is to keep the glucose level within an acceptable band, and only the pancreas produces insulin and glucagon to do that job. So offering only one hormone and not the other could be a disastrous limitation.

  • @gjdepaula Of course the system will have limitations but if you can achieve improved blood glucose control, and I have reasons to believe it will it can be a great device. My worries are related to specific conditions such as certain types of exercise which can dramatically affect blood glucose. It would take only one incident to put the whole stuff down. Also, I wonder about the price tag of such device, maybe finding better alternatives would be a wise research path.

  • @joimko2 The glucagon delivery pump is exactly for when someone exercises and has Insulin-On-Board. It would be used then to avoid hypoglycemia. It will cost almost the same as a closed-loop system that only delivers insulin.

  • i got mine at 18 19 now dont have a pump but i use insulin pens and vials just give myself stomach shots dont hurt though got rapid and long acting insulin.

  • i have type one :( but im living my life and i hate it when people say that its a minor disease or its managable because, EVERYDAY is a struggle...having a balanced reading would be my dream for one day...the days i try they never get there but the days i dont sometimes im lucky..but i can still do everything i want, diabetes is always still my priority though, ive had it 8 years and im 14. Ive been on the pump awhile it changed my life! (:

  • Woooooo i have a insulin pump :)

    its well goodd :d x

  • Check out Dr Faustman, she is inching towards a cure for type 1

  • minimed customer service STINKS

  • Are you kidding me?!?! They have the BEST costomer service!!!

  • they make it sound like these things are implanted inside of the patient. THEY SIT ON YOUR SKIN with a tiny cathedor that goes under the skin into the tissue. i am currently on the pump and getting the glucose monitor that continually reads. i HIGHLY recommend these products. i think all type 1 diabetics should try them out =]
