  • LMAO at the Minivan going uphill. "Fuck this, I'm out!"

  • Engage icy downhills really slow. Put it in neutral. Keep steering straight. Feather the brake to keep it smooth and slow. The key is to avoid wheel lock-ups. Best not to drive on icy roads unless you have winter tires on though.

  • Wow, great skills 00:47! enough speed and great handling

  • its a popular misconception that Washington drivers can't drive in the snow.... SEATTLE drivers can't drive in the snow. Over here on the east side, we know better. Heck, we can drive in four feet of snow! These people are the exception

  • its a popular misconception that Washington drivers can't drive in the snow.... SEATTLE drivers can't drive in the snow. Over here on the east side, we know better. Heck, we can drive in four feet of snow!

  • Walking up a hill towards oncoming cars because your a fearless bastard. XD

  • fed ex guy is like FUCK THAT lmao

  • south hill, no doubt

  • *red car backing up* FUCK THAT *takes off the down alley

  • WHITE 4X4 TOYOTA TACOMA BABY!

  • just move to houston, 86 degrees right now and its january!

  • Did they use salt on these roads? On the Washington coast it's illegal. In NJ where I used to live, never any problems like this. We used salt on roads. Maybe Spokane is too cold and salt doesn't work.

  • The one dislike is from a guy who didn't have car insurance.

  • wow thats pretty sucky drivers. here the roads sometimes are covered withiceand snow the etire winter like 4 months and almost noone slides around like this lol.

i wonder if they even have winter tires lol

  • ice covered downhill + automatic gearbox + not very good tyres + very bad drivers = this video! lol

  • Ok this is a normal day here in Canada.. just learn to drive on ice :P

  • Sure the guy at 0:47 can drive, but the white truck (1:31) at the end put all the others to shame. He had a car coming up and a car spinning out behind him and managed to down the hill just fine.

  • @wenner0101 WHITE 4X4 TOYOTA TACOMA BABY!

  • BRILLIANT! I love it, best laugh all day.

    (north idaho driver and proud)

  • @Kenshiroit yes, we do still put salt on the road, but these accidents wee just after a small snowfall, before we had the chance to put salt on the road

  • Get those bitches back in the kitchen...

  • Did anyone ever think of telling the drivers "Hey, don't go down this hill. It's too icy!"? Or did everyone just watch?

  • LOL, only one person knows how to drive at 0:47

  • Whoa! I heard from a friend that morning to stay away. She saw it and turned around and the videos are crazy!

  • I'm just as talented as those drivers when driving on ice.

  • Another reason Al Gore should have won in 2000. This extreme weather is a direct result of Global Warming. Bottom line!

  • hey come to sweden we fucking floor it on icy and now roads guess what we remain on them and steady to

  • LMFAO

  • Oh yeah, STICK THOSE BREAAAAAAAAAKS TO THE FLOOOR WOOOHOO SLIIIIDE!

  • Just like here. Used almost two hours to drive the 15 minutes home the other day.

  • I bet they were all women drivers !!!! :D

  • huh dont they use to put salt on the road over there????

  • @Kenshiroit because they use more metal then plastic in there car and sat + metal is not a good combo

  • @TALLI2 ok but isnt there any kind of and slip thingy they can use?

  • I'm sorry, I lived in this area for most my life, WA drivers suck. They mostly suck because of the CA transplants admittedly, but it doesn't excuse our inability to drive in rain after 3 days of sunlight, or our inability to drive in fog at all. Everytime we have snow I don't check weatherbug, I check youtube.

  • I think I would have had to put two tires in the snow covered grass (right or left tires) and just drive the damn thing. You notice most of the drivers crashing at the bottom just held the brake while trying to steer? That never works. If they would let off the brakes and just steer the vehicle down the clearest route, most of it could have been avoided. The only truck that went for the snow covered grass route did not look to have done it on purpose, bounced off a pole & back on the road again.

  • lived in Spokane for 3 years as a cali transplant and had no problems driving the ice and snow . good tires and common sense are key to staying out of wrecks. Too many long time residents drive too fast ,look at the liscence plates of the cars at any wreck ....there all from washington or idaho ,you do not see an out of state car waded up in the snow, out of state drivers are unfamiliar and overly cautious

  • hahaha gotta love trucks/suv's^^ always amusing.

  • glad I'm in FLA! :-D

  • Get yourself a set of winter tires

  • No studded tires + no ABS + either crazy-braking or full throttle = smashed cars in the US. ;)

  • The coefficient of static friction is greater than the coefficient of sliding friction.

  • That last black truck tried to take one for the team, but it didn't help.

  • Next time dont brake so much.

  • This is what is do in GTA. Mash up cars and then blow them up with a bazooka. Meh

  • 0:47 knows how to drive on ice

  • fucking summer tyres :D

  • Washington drivers CAN drive, its the California people who move up here (and yes, for some reaosn they do) they dont know how to drive in our weather

  • We in the Urals are icy road 4 months a year, and such incidents as you have - does not happen.

  • I love how the person at the end of the video feels the need to proclaim "Oh, they're gonna hit!" Ya think?

  • 2 really really good drivers, black fusion that didnt even touch the brakes thus giving full steering control and the black chev pick up at thee end who even though decked the pole still had enough sense to throw it into forward gear and give it hell, everyone else panicked and held the brakes and i honestly cant blame them.

  • now pull out the rpg and blow them up

  • FedEx man got out there ASAP!

  • I'd sure want the guy driving the black car at 0:48 to be driving me around lol

  • @kris1379tina LOL sounds like you are from the south.... hahahaha

  • That one car drove right through because he didn't use the break, instead his car was able to turn. Every year it snows and this street is always here. I guess some just panicked. It's not that bad they live on the south hill they can afford it.

  • Difficult hill in these conditions even for you so call expert drivers. Stand in an ice skating rink, now tilt that rink to 30 degree angle and sprinkle some water on it, see if you have any control where your ass ends up. Studded tires, years of driving experience doesn't mean crap. The biggest fault was that of the city of Spokane for not closing Freya till it could be de-iced and sanded.

  • Los Angeles here asking, "Hey, what's all that white stuff on the road?"

  • FedEx Truck does not give a sh*t...

  • the person on the white pickup could have avoided everything if they just let go of the damn brakes! wow what a dumb driver

  • How about some studded tires anyone? And some driving lessons :D Oh I love them americans - they make me so happy :D -Finland

ps, whenever you are drifting on ice: remember to break as hard as possible ;D! Dumbasses...

  • @Jorjatar we have studs, dumbass

  • Ey guys, in Sweden we all have winter tires so this doesn't occur. There are two types, one with studdes and of course studless tires. You guys call the M & S (Mud & snow) which means the same. And as many people are saying - don't step on the breaks when this happens. It's the most stupid thing to do. Traction, grip and steering is the best combo with as little gas as possible...Good luck everybody

    //Swede used to winter conditions

  • i love suvs and pick-ups! they are so useful....

  • Everyones so hostile.... Wht has this world come to. Is there any happy respectable ppl out there anymore?

  • Is tht freya??

  • Instead of braking, stay in your first gear if you're driving standard, or first gear on an automatic box also... Just don't brake or you're screwed

  • I know it sounds weird, but do NOT brake. Braking only makes it worse. To get the traction needed to steer you need to make your wheels turn, therefore you need to accelerate. Sounds crazy but it's the only way.

  • Seriously people. Don't trash talk the drivers until you've been on the roads yourself.

  • this just in: there's special tires for winter driving!

  • @sebbe138 special tires for winter driving? really? like what do you mean? like do they make them with like pokey metal nails sticking out so that you stick to the road? cuz that would be really cool!

  • Wow, we're famous! Ohh Spokane, that is humiliating. Way to make us look stupid. Our city has no good reputation, and now they have to put these idiots on national news. To be fair, the roads are pretty bad lately. But honestly.... This makes me weep.

  • popular misconception of Spokane drivers. locals know better than this hill for this reason, but California transplants here have no idea watch and learn.

  • @AVNwinner HAHAH that is SOOO true! We've had so many Californians move here, and last years snow was nonexistent so all the newbies don't know what they're up against.

  • @AVNwinner

These were locals! The neighbors on the hills above warned them, and even got the finger from some. One guy sarcastically commented that he'd been going down that hill for 20 years and, guess what, he was in one of those wrecked vehicles. People need to slow down and avoid driving down streets as steep as Freya when there's ice under the snow. 200 accidents that day! Sorry, but it's typical for Spokane. Slow down and don't hit the brakes.

  • Wow. A lot of needlessly offensive comments directed toward Spokane drivers here. If all you complainers had an idea of how bad our streets really can get...or more importantly, how atrocious the road department has been this year regarding the use of plows and de-icer trucks, then maybe you'd keep your rude comments to yourself...oh and FYI, we're not all this bad. Some of us Spokanites actually do know how to drive in the snow and ice, and we don't appreciate the stereotyping going on here.

  • yup, that is crazy! glad i dont live on that hill anymore!

  • Such ignorance in the comments, feel free to come take a test drive.

Try searching the video "icy mayhem on freya" (on the krem site) for a different perspective.

  • No offence America... but i've never seen this happen in Norway ...

  • @NorwayLove Well. Come drive on our roads when they're really bad and we'll see what happens.

  • @TheRockyBach Wtf, have you ever been in Norway?! Our roads are like this right now!

  • @NorwayLove Have you ever been to Spokane WA and been on that hill? I don't think so.

  • @TheRockyBach Why would i go to Spokane?

  • @TheRockyBach LOL, what, do you think, that there is no worst hill to climb in winter in the world?

LOL The guy lives in Norway, this hill is for pussies to him.

  • Reverse-win at 1:08

  • I'd love to see those that say WA drivers are horrible drive our roads in this weather..it may not look like much, but in a state that is primarily mountains, hills and valleys, it's nearly impossible to get around with a non 4 wheel drive vehicle in this weather. Our State is sadly under-supplied with vehicles for ice and snow maintenance. Temps fluctuate badly from day to night which causes a freeze/melt cycle that gives us ice, snow, slush, rain, sleet, freezing rain etc. Try it yourself...

  • @lazyloperstables damn straight. These people don't know what they hell they are talking about.

  • @lazyloperstables Sorry but No, WA drivers just plain cant drive... not even when there is no ice/snow/slush/rain/sleet/freezing rain... etc. Trust me, I am from Montana, we have the same weather conditions... if not worse and we drive in it well into 7 months of the year.. So way to stand up for your home state, but i am gonna stand up for the truth :)

    Sincerely,

    You're fellow montana

  • @Runsintherainforever your roads aren't even paved in montana! paved roads are icier than dirt roads.

come on over and take a drive, let's see how you handle this. keep your ignorant mouth shut unless you know what you're talking about.

  • @Runsintherainforever Yes, it is nice and easy when your state is largely FLAT.

  • The problem it`s not the vehicle or the icy road, but the tires and the driver! You dont need a big 4 wheel vehicle, if you got good winter-tires and know how to drive on ice and snow. Belive me, I know! I live i Norway, we have icy, snowy roads 6 months every year!

    Basic rules:

1: Be prepared! Change to winter tires BEFORE this happen, if this weather happen every winter! If you dont want to buy these tires, you should not drive your car AT ALL on winter days. 2: Drive smoothly and slow!

  • @Iris1340

Well said. Winter tires ftw :P

  • @Iris1340 But you know that it doesn't make a difference if your driving sumer or winter tires if the road is covered with ice? The only thing that makes a difference on ice has been said in your rule no. 2.

  • @lazyloperstables lol you don't need 4 wheels drive, you need winter tires, duh. And yes, bad drivers.

  • This wasn't even "ice". It was a few inches of snow, for heaven's sake!

  • @KamaraLuna When that few inches of snow falls onto a warm road then freezes, it becomes VERY slick. Don't trash talk it until you drive on it.

  • @KamaraLuna Hey man I live in Spokane and this hill is at a very high angle, the snow landed on a warm surface than froze, don't judge.

  • @KamaraLuna haha! were you there?

  • Note the Acura at 0:38 sailing through with no problem.

All of those cars in the pileup are American - big surprise.

Then at 1:47 typical hick in his truck - just gun it and hope for the best. What a fucking moron.

  • @MrFLICKYOLI that wasn't an acura, it was a ford

  • @minneapolis. Your state is flat as a pancake, This hill has an 8% grade AND the snow was slick as snot! I drove it, with no problems thank you very much, but I was going up the hill, not down. I'd have picked a different route if I wanted to go downhill that day, but had to avoid the problems going up the other way. Bad drivers everywhere, the worst I've seen were in Edina.

  • Oh, I think I can make it if I go real slow...

this is why I moved from Doe Bay to Eastsound. did one of these once on one of the Rosario roads.

  • Note how the trucks and SUVs were actually more uncontrollable than the cars.

  • @MrFLICKYOLI

Note how the drivers there have absolutely no idea how to drive on icy roads.

This gave me a good laugh if nothing else. :D Even four wheelers out of control...

  • The only non-retarded driver was the FedEx guy

  • @monez14 the fedex guy most likely had chains, and going up wasn't the problem, going down was

  • lol Wash State drivers are horrible. Minneapolis got about 40" of snow in 4 days and I didn't see any morons driving like this

  • @monez14 It's a different consistency

  • @ThePutridStag Yeah I know - Seattle/Spokane drivers are consistently morons

  • @monez14 clever

  • @monez14 it's not snow, who is the moron now?

  • if this was saturday, i tried to go down this road but thankfully it was already closed

  • funny that the only person that can handle the snow is the guy in the fedex car, which is the hardest vehicle to drive in such weather

  • @johannesfelsch you missed the car coming down the hill at :47 , he did it the right way, eg , coasting not braking.

  • @johannesfelsch the fedex trucks have chains, and he was going up, not down

  • 4 wheel drive helps you go not stop, but yeah this is horrible driving.

  • These people suck at driving. I also spot around 6 vehicles with 4 Wheel Drive. LOL

  • It's Freya around 15th, I believe.

  • What hill is this? I used to live in Spokane, and I'm curious.

  • Lol nice!

  • Welcome to Spokane, where cars do this, and street signs give you the middle finger. (google Spokane bronx salute crosswalk)
