  • Woah, that is a killer Esquire tone. Always loved Jimmie's playing on their album version of this, but Ramos is amazing here.

Saw the T-Birds a few times in the early 80s. I thought Jimmie was the world's coolest guitar player back then. He was just ridiculous live.

  • No the Bass player is Jimmy Vaughn, Kid Ramos is the Guitar player on this tune

  • is the guitar player the brother of SRV?

  • superb

  • Freaking awesome

  • And thats a WRAP!!! Damn that tone on the Kid's guitar!!

  • And thats a WRAP!!!!

  • Did Jimmie Vaughn get on a few cycles of roids?

  • @notapuppet That's not Jimmy Vaughn, it's Kid Ramos read the description. It kinda looks like him though on steroids. LOL

  • This just murder,Kid Ramos is greatest.In finnish:Vitun kova!

  • once its put down with a tele you just cant turn it down after, my speakers are on zero and its still loud. its ace!

  • Ramos chased down a mean tone.

  • Esquire on steoids!

  • Kid Ramos drips with cool...

  • 7 people stupid!

  • Those people at 1:44 are excellent reminders of why us white people should not dance.

  • Wow...I feel as if I just got mauled by a Fender. That guitar has teeth.

  • Very underrated!

  • Slash and burn MF.

  • I had the pleasure of hearing and meeting Dave Ramos this evening. A totally consummate musician, and so very appreciative of any praise coming his way. He is now playing with "Los Fabulosos". Anyone who likes Ry Cooder and Flaco Jiminez needs to check them out. They have a 2nd CD due for release in October.

  • THIS IS THE BEST ESQUIRE SOUND I´VE HEARD IN MY LIFE !

I love those guitars, even own one but haven´t heard anybody sound this way with one before.

Kid Ramos is absolutely awesome and so is Kim wilson, age has done him good !

    BRILLIANT !

    BRILLIANT !

  • DAMMIT IT KID RAMOS...YOU ARE A BAD BAD MAN!

And I mean that in a good way. You friggin rock!

  • kim and kid and the rest are the shit......THIS NEVER GETS OLD....love it

  • Major League KILLER BLUES at its VERY BEST ...

  • Kim Wilson never looked better.

  • Mighty Strong!

  • That DVD is awesome! Great songs; fantastic sound!

  • Kim, Kim, Kim: Look wot ya done to ME baby!!! The biceps, the black T.....and I'm not even gunna mention the black leather strides......*phew*

Been 'in lurve' with Kim since I saw him and probably the original T Birds at the Marquee Club, Wardour St, London around 79/80.

Have had the good fortune to see him and a variety of lineups 3-4 times since across the UK. Met him a couple times too: you are just SOOOO sweet.

PLEASE come back to the 100 Club, London anytime soon.......xxxxxxx

  • Yes, I was there in the studio in Los Angeles, when they recorded it live. It was the T-Birds at that time. the two girl singers in the back where brought in for vocals and a horn section. what a night.

  • Not the thunderbirds

  • Still the greatest bar band in the world, hands down. Wilson and Kid, ya baby... the right stuff!

  • Definitely blessed! Amen!

  • Wow, this video is a total tour de force, by Kid Ramos.

What a bunch of great guitarplayers Kim has had with him throughout the years. Jimmie, Duke Robbilard, Kid, etc etc....

  • And they said Tele's are only for country music HA! They have NEVER seen this then have they lol. AWESOME UPLOAD BRO, the blues FOREVER!

  • Thats an Esquire allmost like a tele but has a stacked single coil in the back. Thats one of the tuffest guitars i own. I think its Tuff enuff. lol

  • @BACKBONEBAND1 A single coil in an Esquire has NO STACK. A stack would still be more than one coil.

  • @jukeking1 Thanks for tellen me cause I allways thought it was stacked, but is it split some way or something cause how does it have a three way switch?

  • Comment removed

  • @jukeking1 it helps allot thanks for telling me.

  • @BACKBONEBAND1

You're very welcome. Check out TDPRI for more tele info than any one person can absorb

  • F**K! *********

  • I had the great honor of meeting KIm and the rest of the band at the Mt Wachusett Blues Festival in Massachusetts about a year ago what a nice guy and awsome performer. The new line up features the Moeller Bros. Johnny Moellers guitar style reminds me of a young Stevie Ray Vaughn.

  • @Videowatcher76 Johnny probably wouldn't take very kindly to that remark.

  • @jukeking1 Actually I'm pretty sure he'd be flattered , atleast he was when I was standing there hearing people tell him that .

  • Jimmie Vaughn... Didn't I see him in a video at the Texas statehouse?

  • kids the man!!

  • What's up with the dancin guy at 1:43? Those sure are some white man dance moves...yikes

  • it looks like theses days lots af bodybuilders are into the music ,haha guess i'll just quit

  • you ignorant man

  • kid's playin' a fender esquire..

    single pickup tele...cool..

    sounds great!

  • @mrjonrickly The esquire was a guitar before the Tele was. Leo's original design had only one pickup. This evolved into the rare two pickup Esquire that was renamed the Broadcaster for a short time. fred Grestch had a line of drums already named Broadkaster and asked Leo to rename his Guitar. Since television was new at the time ,.why not call itthe Telecaster... and tie in to that marketing ploy. Read The Fender Years by Forrest White, or The Telecaster Book by A.R. Duchossoir, for more info

  • This is why I play the blues. If there is a heaven (and I get there), I'll get to play a solo like that.

  • I was here that nite is Los Angeles, But, I do not show up too well in the audience, Wow, That was a FUN Night, Hello kids Love From Lillian, ARtistiChicana...Yeah what a 'Guitar Player" Wow.... WOw.

  • It's always been Kim's band no doubt. What does he do, run the guitarists off being too restrictive or whatever or do they just go their different "artistic" directions.

I wonder if they leave with bad feelings?

  • Nah it was Jimmy's band until he bailed. He dictated most of it. As he got more into his demons and withdrew, Kim took over.

I think he learned he likes to be in COMPLETE control after that...

  • they were actually 50/50 for the most part, and they got into fist fights because of the headbutting. Kim wrote most of the songs, Jimmie has an ego big as Texas itself. Jimmie had quit the band several months before Stevie died, the T-Birds were failing musically and he wanted to try some other things besides I-IV-V songs. Damn shame, because apart he and Kim have never done as well as they did together.

  • That's not true, Jimmie and Kim have both made GREAT records apart, and continue to play blues that's authentic and valid. They never had the same commercial success, but that shit is almost random anyways. Gotta say, as gay as it sounds to say it, Ramos' tone here is incredible....Must have been fun to play with that rig!

  • @KidAndersen Right on all counts, KA.

  • Pasote

  • THis was a pretty good lineup; Ramos and Taylor are missed; just Wilson left ; a solo act, really.

  • Hey Kim is lookin like Tom Griswold!!!!

    Killer vocalist

  • I think he looks like Mick Hucknall of Simply Red, even their voices are similar, only Kim has more grit.

  • What kind of amp does Ramos use here?

  • Looks like a Vox ac30 behind him

  • @gratslogic Yup, but there's also a big Fender combo besides it. Maybe he's running 'em in stereo?

  • @gratslogic and a Fender outboard tube reverb unit. and Don Mare pickups

  • Comment removed

  • now that is some music right there

  • lets hear it for willie j on that bass

  • It's a 3x10 Bandmaster.

  • the bass player is a bank, man. what a supreme, divinely tight band

  • now thats what i call telecaster music!

  • just as you like, 'man, but the guitar in the clip is an esquire, is it not? ie. it has no neck pick-up...

  • ya its an esquire. not it just has the bridge pick up. the selector switch changes the tone.

  • i know, man....you're the one suggesting it was a tele...

  • Anyone know if that is a Bandmaster or Concert?

  • neither - it's a Vibro-King

  • that's brown tolex and not oxblood grille cloth(either tweed era or wheat). It can't be a Vibro king.

  • Looks like a late '62 Concert to me.

Brown Tolex, white knobs, and four 10 inch speakers.

The "Brown" Bandmaster(and Vibro-King) had 3-10's, with the bottom one in the center of the cabnet. The amp in this video is miked like it has 4-10's, if it was a Bandmaster the mic would need to be about 5 inches closer to the center to pick up the speaker.

So I'm going with Fender Concert from October of '62!

  • reverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrb

    cool :)

  • Smoking hot Esquire playing...AC 30 makes it sing. I built an Esquire after hearing this.....now I just need the Amp.... ha ha!!

  • Hi Chakiriscan

I got the AC30, all I need is another Fender amp (I've had a Twin and a Super Reverb but they had to go to pay the bills...). The Vox will do for now!

The DVD which this comes from is great. This segue, into Wrap It up, is ok too. On his last U.K. tour Kim segued Mannish Boy with Look At That, Look At That...it was appalling.

    Best wishes from the U.K.

  • I've got an 06 Blond Ltd Ed Del. Reverb RI and just finished an 18 Watt Marshall Head. I run a reverb pedal with the Marshall to open it up. Sorry to hear "Look at That" was so bad....was it new guitarist. I got that DVD for x-mas, just for Kid Ramos, In general I prefer early T-birds with Jimmy and even Duke....but that concert with Kid was jammin!!!

  • Hi Chakirisan

It wasn't the players, it was the weird combination of perhaps one of the deepest, most heartfelt, down and dirty renditions of 'Mannish Boy'....GREAT blues, seguing into one of their frivolous 'party' songs from their least Fabulous period, the mid-1980s. The effect was more than jarring!

Yes, that DVD is a valuable document. Kid Ramos is a superb player. I love that Gibson Switchmaster he plays in T'Bone Walker's 'The Hustle'. That looks like a very valuable guitar.

    Take care

  • superb! thanks for share serralheiro *****

  • Your earlier stuff was just outstanding.

  • Ramos is a log, Vaughan is an axe.

  • Boy, that Ramos guy is LOUD!..

  • Anyone noticed how alike Kim Wilson and Mick Hucknall are?

  • YofterMofter; He also reminds me abit of Edward Norton in "American History X". This is a great video..enough testosterone to sink a battleship.

  • That Esquire sounds AWESOME!!!

  • Great! Above all the man dancing at 1:43!

  • kid ramos is awesome....

  • I know I've got the whole of this gig on DVD but it must be the pull of Kim in his leathers..... you HOT ol' sod, you!!

Why is it that blokes tend to age better than us women?!!LOL

  • i like this type of blues man, hey jimmythey have a monster hurricane comming to louisiana man my pa is one them cajun mafia boss man come eat some cajun cooking man hehehe

  • I'm happy to say that i bought a bass guitar (71' Harmony H22/1)that supposedly belonged to Keith Ferguson before he passed away.

  • Who else is in this clip, besides Kid Ramos and Kim Wilson? When is this from?

Kid Ramos sounds good, but I never could get used to the idea of a Fab T-Birds without Jimmie Vaughan.

  • Amazing, Kid, amazing.

  • wicked guitar sound

  • It's an Esquire guys.

  • You can proudly say that this is the way of Tele-playing!

  • exactly

  • The Telecastor`s pickups have fallen off!?

  • The T-Birds are coming to Glasgow in 2 weeks. I'm going. See you on the Ferry.

  • mikemckv - Was at The Ferry, G'gow gig on 18 Apl too - did you enjoy it as much as we did?

Loved the new line up: the young bucks did Kim proud! Seen about 3/4 different line-ups since '79. Love whatever Kim throws at me!

  • 1960gal, You might have bought me a drink! Thought it was a blast and they could have rocked the Ferry to the bottom of the Clyde. Agree with you about the guitarists. Kim's harp solos were the highlight, though. Roll on Walter Trout's next Ferry night.

  • mikemckv - Just been watching Walter T on here: 'Dust my Broom'. Think you are in for a treat!

Walter T played local to us at The Mick Jagger Centre. Nice small venue, similar capacity to The Ferry.

Will try to catch him again if he's down our way.

Wilko Johnson's playing there is May - love his guitar style but, sorry to offend, his singing doesn't do it for me. RIP Lee Brilleaux :(

Any as for the drink: think my ol'man drank the bar dry!

  • Will follow the WT link, 1960gal. Don't worry about the drink - anybody who drinks the Ferry dry must be quite a bloke! Agree about Lee and Wilko but I would travel to hear any of the old Feelgoods, Canvey Island's finest. Saw them in Glasgow in 1979 when I was a schoolboy. Never caught who was the warm up for the Tbirds, but they were good. One of my companions thought it was one of the Nimmo Brothers. Any idea?

  • Yep, your pal's right. It was fronted by Alan Nimmo.

Apparently he put the Band together for that gig! Heard him say they'd only had 1 1/2 rehearsals. We thought they were great. He has a great voice.

What a great accolade: to be supporting the T'Birds in your home town!

Checked him out on here too - does a T'Bird cover of my all-time fav 'Wiat on Time'!

  • Tx, 1960gal. Cool vibes. Keep the faith.

  • lead singer looks alot differnet, sounds better too

  • @tyler124307 ummmmm dumbass, that is the same singer since the beginning of the Fabulous T=birds.

  • It's Kim Weston's band, always will be.

  • @robertlaf I KNOW you meant, KIM WILSON.

  • Jeeze, i'd hate to be that Tele! Kid is rippin' it to bits. Kid & Kim have to be the fittest looking guys in music right now ..and it's GREAT to see this. The Blues has been long associated with pasty wimps who are into overindulgence of substances.

  • Its an esquire...

  • I always thought Jimmy sounded better on a Tele than a Strat. I think it brought more out of his playing, too.

  • Mr Wilson is SOOO hot! Was lucky enough to meet him before and after his UK gig in Southampton, July 07. What a very sweet man!

Will be flying to Glasgow to see him - and some new faces for us! - on 19th April. Bring it on!

  • Wilson must be mainlining the tofu and carrot juice to be looking this good after 30 years of one night stands!

  • I wouldnt want to be in the band who plays after the Kid !!!

  • mm..Kid's the Man !

  • you ain't never lied.

  • this is kid ramos on gtr, willie campbell on bass and stephen hodges on drms all from harman...with kim

  • Look... it's the James Harman Band from 1989 with a new lead singer!

  • saw this great group years ago at the Scorpion in State College Pa

    better than ever

  • Just close your eyes and listen to some good Texas blues (...though I miss Jimmy Vaughn)

  • jimmy is fine it's his brother Stevie that met an early end.

  • Yes, little brother Stevie died in a helicopter crash leaving a venue.

Jimmie Vaughn was the lead guitar player for the Fabulous Thunderbirds. He left the group and was replaced by the guitar player in this video... Kid Ramos.

I miss Jimmie (Being in the band) I suppose he and lead singer, Kim Wilson, didn't get along? I've watched them whenever they play in SoCal.

  • Rippin'

  • I'll see ya nexy wednesday Kid!

  • Magic Sam would be proud of this :)

  • Look Watcha Done is a Magic Sam tune and Kid Ramos kicks ass!

  • Bluesrockit, you T-Birds!!:D

  • Smokin' guitar !!!

  • Maybe you should watch Boy George... He was a good dancer ...! dumbass

  • Kick ass. JTelementaly, a teenager, doesn't like the dance moves. Who cares what the "you got served" generation thinks anyway.

  • This is one of the coolest blues tunes you'll ever hear! Kid Ramos is unbelievable!

  • I've never seen a lead singer with such stupid dance moves. At least he could be on beat. Love the band though.

  • Leave Kim alone, he's so cool he can dance away way he damn well likes.

  • How dare you! Just saw him last night at HOB Dallas. Have you ever seen the TBirds or Kim live? Obviously not, or you would know that he knocks the sh*t out of the beat. And... probably better than you!

  • Kid ramos really know how to play blues, he almost made my cry when he played a crazy solo at a gig in notodden this summer! yeah!!

  • YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! love it ;c)

Fabolous, thank´s 4 all gooooood music!! kiss from Sweden/Kathryn

  • I love the T-birds with Kid in the lineup!

  • Great rock and roll. Ramos and Wilson are terrific.

  • genius solo from ramos on look watcha done...
