Take Exxon for example, which is an American gas company. They have been trying to develop an alternative to gasoline for car fuel. Chevy too, also an American Company. They also developed the Volt which runs on electricity. I can go on. Energy companies have been trying to lean more towards sources like hydro turbines.

I think the point of this song is to inform. No, they don't propose solutions, at least they're paying attention. There are plenty of people, especially the kids who listen, who aren't aware of the problems we face as a nation and as a species and wouldn't be exposed to them otherwise. I don't think these guys are the cream of the crop when it comes to sociopolitical observation, but this song is notch above the countless out that are completely empty of any meaning whatsoever.
