  • i love this song so so sad

  • Remember it well. I knew it was a guy. Even so, those notes he hit blew my mind.

  • When I 1st heard it on the radio I thought it was a girl singing. Now even though I know it's a boy it's still very hard to tell!

  • What a beautiful song. Reminds me of my son (Michael) crying and saying " cant you stay home tonight " I replied I can't. I was a father at 17 and my outside life was more important at the time. Now I have 4 beautiful grand children and I WONT make that mistake again. Im sorry Michael for being selfish. I love you so much-Dad

  • remember this song from 70's loved it then and love it now.

    shame dads not here anymore.

    love you dad xx

  • Best Version ever'

  • I love this song, my dad was always gone with work, and my mom stayed home and took care of us kids, she babysat kids so the 3 of us could go to a religious grade school, she was always there, I love her so

  • happy to add my name to the Like list. A pretty but sad song.

  • i love this song but its so sad

  • dose any one have the verson done by the kiwi singer eddie lowe if so can u put it on here

  • merry christmas daddy i sure do miss you just as much today as the day you left me love your baby girl

  • "If only for the sake of my sweet daughter "..I listen to this song and take comfort in the fact that other men have been through what I have.

  • The piano at the beginning is absolutely gorgeous..... <3

  • This song reminds me of my Mom, actually.

This song reminded her of her Dad, and he walked away from her mother & three young daughters (7, 5 and 3) because her Mom was a woman he just couldn't live with anymore, so he walked away from her. My Mom told me the day he walked away, she sat in the living room window crying and watching him. Well, now my Mom has passed away this year (and her Dad in 2003), and because she hated it, I love it just because it reminds me of her. I MISS & LOVE YOU, MOM!!

  • Wayne Newton is a clone of Air Supply's Russell Hitchcock.

  • Great song ;O)

  • One of the best songs ever next to Bobby Goldsboro's "Honey, I miss you".

  • Personally like Tony Christies version better ,But this is great

  • Man that gave me a chill. You know a song is good when that happends

  • This song used to send me into near hysterics of terror in case my dad left, as a child. (He didn't).

  • i love this song, and wayne is a good singer, but doesnt compare to elvis, or tom jones, or englebert, sorry. just my opinion.

  • Wow how I loved this song! Bought the 45 when I was 14. Been looking for it since then. Thanks for posting!

  • beautiful song - great singer

  • back when Newton owned Vegas a great song emerged how wonderful

  • One of my favorite memories: Thanks for allowing me to go back there. No one can sing this song like W N.

  • BEAUTIFUL

  • saw Wayne in Vegas perform this when the song came out!! Fantastic!! Thank you for the post!

  • what a song!!! I remember hearing this song, and feeling so sad for that little daughter. Thanks for posting this song again...a all-time lost hit.

  • This is from a time when we thought about about our lyrics before we spit them out. That song just made me take a minute and think about myself. I am thankful I just tripped over this song. Pass is on.

  • Part 2: The only difference between this version by Newton, and the original(?) by Boone, is that Boone's voice is much lower and more manly sounding. But the Pre-hit version of Teenage in Love by Doc Pomus(it's writer) has completely different lyrics, and is called "Young And In Love". So you see, some songs started sounding completely different, from their later hit versions, while others, such as "Daddy..."are pretty much the same arrangement, but with a different singer.

  • This is the famous version, but it's not the original. The original was by Bristish pop star Daniel Boone(real name, Peter Stirling), who would eventually have a hit of his own called "Beautiful Sunday". Boone's original vesrion appears on "Before They Were Hits" Vol.4. Incidentally that's a series of CD's worth getting if you want to hear how certain

popular songs sounded, BEFORE they were made famous by someone else..To Be Continued...

  • One of the best songs and singers!!!

  • Anybody remember a tune Wayne Newton had in the top 40 a little later on, "Years"? Haven't heard that one in a long time.

  • aw... that's so cute.
