This is evidently a new trend in upscale restroom design here in Germany. I've seen it several times before. Of course, the restrooms are not shared. This is only the entrance to the restroom areas, with convenient sinks for washing hands or similar. From here, the facility divides into fully separate restroom areas for men (Herren) and woman (Damen). There are usually sinks in those areas as well.
