  • Still amazing after the 100th time...

May he stay with us for a long time

  • He was on fire this night.

  • A GUITAR GOD

  • Is that Doyle Bramhall next to him?

  • It's like listening to a wolf howl at the moon. Fuckin' NATURAL.

  • any idea which open tuning does derek use in most of his solos?

  • @david17divad17 Typically he uses Open E

  • Can a guitar break make a persons day, I say JAWOHL! This just may be the best blues slide break EVER played? Looks like EC was impressed.

  • 1. this makes me want to throw away all my guitar picks.

    2. in any video where derek trucks plays with a guitar legend i love the reaction when even they've heard somethin honestly only one man can play.

  • I wish derek and stevie coulda played together

  • Derek makes every solo a magic moment.

  • Fuckin sick

  • one of the best blues slide solos ever!!!!!!!!

  • gives me the shivers every fucking time

  • there really is nothing to say about this solo. there just isn't. it is absolutely perfect in every form of the matter.

  • heavenly. music. every detail speaks with a penetrating voice to the heart.

  • F...ing smooth! f...ing great

  • scarily good.

  • His face says nothing, but the music he creates,OMG!! It's like he was screaming from the very inside, exploding!! Emanates so much energy!!! No words are enough!!!

  • claptons neck hair is standing on end uhh thats all i need to know dt is quite amazing

  • how did helen keller get two youtube accounts?

  • el mejor guitarrista de blues contemporaneo

  • I play slide and my fans love me!!...... I have to keep Derek a secret!! LOL Dear GOD!!

  • who ever "disliked" this video is an idiot...........how the hell do you make a "pull off" sound with a freckin slide? this guy is truly amazing

  • He reminds me of Stevie Ray Vaughn in this solo :)

  • (Nadia) by jeff beck kind of puts this stuff to bed id say

  • @AshStrat1 if you like to go fishing in the city versus fishing in the bayou.

  • Derek is using all of that East Indian music he listens to. He's very much influenced by the intervals they use in that type of music. Gives a whole extra dimension to the blues! Wonderful!

  • Love the tone damn tasty!!

  • oh boy...that was lovely

  • oh boy...that was lovely.

  • two words: Fucking beautiful

  • i don't know how he can keep playing after that. if you belt out a solo like that, it's hard to not just fall to your knees and weep over it's beauty. i'm just glad someone was filming.

  • @2:10 clapton is like:''did i really hear this or is it some drug induced illusion from 1969???!!!!"

  • @kapdrums Except even the godfather of the electric slide, Duane Allman himself has never played blues like that .

This is ALL DEREK. Give the man his due, he has worked his ass off since he was 12 years old, he deserves to step out of DA shadow.

He has transcended his master, teacher, mentor, he is now the god of electric slide.

Rock on good man rock on.

  • @Graiskye what do you mean...?i mean,i WORSHIP derek!!!what I meant is that clapton(as we,mere mortals)looks like he cant believe his ears...:)

  • I think I just gave this video another 60 views. I don't think there is an unhealthy number of times to watch this.

  • My dream jam in heaven

    Derek Trucks - slide gtr

    Hendrix - lead gtr

    Herbie Hancock - piano

    John Paul Jones - bass

    John Bonham - drums

Jesus dressed up as Satan - harmonica

  • I don even know what the fuck to say he is singing!!!! He is singing with that damn slide like a angel sent to make me smile.

  • eargarm

  • I don't know whats better; the lick that Derek pulls at 2:10, or the look on Clapton's face when he realizes the lick that Derek pulled at 2:10.

Ok, it's the lick itself. Damn that was nasty!!

  • at 0:32, derek does a swell that is so flawless rich, it makes me want to punch someone in the face. Does anyone know how hard it is to maintain that level of control? He is a MONSTER player.

  • @airforcejim I never heard it called a swell, thats a pretty cool name for it.

  • @jsl209 it's a volume swell. He slides up to a note as a volume swell, and you can see him reach down to tweak his knob for it. He makes it sound just like some gospel singer humming a line for soul, "mmmmmmmmmmm"

  • ... and Mr Clapton is thinking: "Man, I whish I could play like that ..."

  • @Pepe00ad eric clapton's too old to get jealous

  • so much soul and feeling in his playing, almost too much

  • Not many people can sing without opening their mouth. This guy is absolutely incredible

  • Comment removed

  • at 224 claptons hair on his neck is standing on end what else is there to say derek is the shit

  • Jesus. I have only just discovered Derek Trucks. I feel like he has just had his way with my ears.

  • @mrcoolpimpice...He's the 2nd best. Duane Allman was and still is THE VERY BEST slide guitar player to ever walk the face of the earth!! Derek models him self on Duane. If you read the book "Sky Dog" there's a quote from Derek sayin "The frist time I saw Duane, I knew what I wanted to for the rest of my life" Of course Duane was allready dead, but Derek has always been intune with the Allman Bros beacuse of his uncle Butch who is one of the original and current drumers in the band.

  • its funny, whenever derek is REALLY getting down on it, you can see just a hint of emotion in his face. i love it

  • I would like to know how his strings are tuned ?! Anyone knows ?!

  • @Foinman he usually plays in open E (E-B-E-G#-B-E)

  • is his father the trucks in the original allman bros band?

  • @fenderjagmeister Butch trucks is his uncle

  • @fenderjagmeister nah its his uncle

  • He is undoubtedly the best slide player in the world. I have yet to see anyone better than him.

  • @mrcoolpimpice Could be... although Jack Pearson (his friend and a mentor) is certainly as good as Trucks, equally tasty, but quite different in tone. I think Derek is still studying and developing (so's Jack). Who knows where Derek'll be when he's Jack's age?

  • @jackcame2 A child prodigy..his parents named him after 'Derek and the Dominos.' The first time I saw him he was too young to buy a ticket to enter the venue where he was playing! (Nephew of Butch Trucks).

  • holy shit the notes toward the of dereks solo made claptons hair on his neck stand up mine too WOW!!!

  • FUCK ME!!!

  • this is the first thing i heard from him, does it get better than this?

  • @ahindat2 Yup check out "Derek Trucks Awesome Slide Solo," same song, completely different solo. It seems like he never plays anything the same way twice, which is pretty sick imo...

  • honestly i think trucks is a better slide guitarist than allman. possibly since allman died at 23 but i think it's just trucks devotion to all types of music and techniques and stuff. but thats just my opinion

  • So awesome!!!!

  • When Duane Allman arrived in Guitar Heaven God realized he made a mistake and said "I`m sending you back!"... 9 months later Derek Trucks was born.

  • @PindamonhaMAN try 8 years later. Duane died in 71 and derek was born in 79. But i like the spirit of your post!

  • @Danjd1 hahaha sorry, i meant 9 months after God realized the mistake!

  • @Danjd1 god was just waiting for the right vessel, he thought it'd be cool if he put duane's soul into butch's nephew to bring meaning back into the allman brothers name

  • You Have To Have The Full Song

  • Why have I not been listening to this guy more! Why!

  • He's no Rory Gallagher on that slide! :)

  • amen!

  • Derek is the anointed one, bathed in Duane's spirit and sent to reveal to all of us that all talent is a Godly gift.

  • he made the hair on Claptons neck stand up. LOOK! 2:10

  • That part made everyones hair stand up. lol.

  • @Stefanrocks

    hahaha good one ! :D

  • No one can even touch Trucks. He has perfected the imperfections of playing guitar

  • So much soul. He shreds the hell out of that mother fucker! a totally different breed of slide playing

  • this is amazing iv'e looked at it almost everyday in 4 months !

  • 0:43 <3

  • This is my favorite slide solo...one of my overall favorite solos ever...I'm only 21, but I fell in love with the blues about 2 years ago...I wish more people my age would listen to it and appreciate its beauty...there is more emotion/passion/soul packed into this solo than in all the pop/rap/emo/punk crap played on the radio combined

  • @MBJennings06 youre dam right, this is pure emotion..radio is only there to please people who dont care or dont got time to dig into other types of music. well, at some point i simply didnt turn on the radio anymore. screw public radio, screw poor 3 chords mainstream sell out music...power to the blues!! (jesus, im getting to political )

  • yo bro im 22 and i feel the same way. ive got a few friends into good music finally, u just have to burn them cds relentlessly till they finally really listen then there hooked. After that its time to go to the concerts and we all know how awesome that is.

  • Trucks is a monster .. but Sonny Landreth is not of this earth .. but Derek is growing as a musician every time he plugs in ... the guy has some serious soul going on for him.

I'm sure most of you have heard of Sonny Landreth but for those of you who haven't , look him up !

  • that note from 0:31 to 0:32 makes me shiver its so amazing

  • he sounds like allman brothers! wonderfull!

  • Even Clapton thinks Trucks is a badass...

  • that was the best piece of slide guitar i've ever seen. All hail to mister trucks

  • you guys aint kidding. Serious chills!!!

  • HOLY SHIT!

  • yep gave me the chills too

  • this song gave my cold chills, derek trucks is among the gods.

  • oh-my fuck-in God.

  • the world must see this video, 17,732 is not possibly enough, there should be 19,000,000! SHARE with everyone you know! Derek Trucks is the next #1

  • This video is some time hard to find. Now you have to search specifically for it. I was lucky enough to see him at a concert in Berlin, Germany.

I am perfectly of your opinion on this video

  • he chooses to fly under the radar and I respect that about him. so the fact that only this many people have seen in makes it really special. just my opinion.

  • trucks is so fucking badass

  • He literally coaxes every last drop of tone of his guitar and it is fucking beautiful man. A Genius right there. a true guitar hero.

  • @OthelloNC My favorite player since Stevie Ray.

  • @hockeycoachbill SRV would've loved this solo. It would've been great to see them jam.

  • Dieses Lied, insbesondere dieses Solo, ist für mich der Höhepunkt auf der Crossroads 2007 DVD. Ich selbst kenne kein besseres dieser Art. Vom Klang her so leidenschaftlich.

  • omfg

  • A prodigy who panned out.....

    Unreal.

  • It almost seems like he was working according to some sort of master plan almost . . . first learn how to imitate the slide greats, then perfect your own tone, then perfect your own style of phrasing, then move beyond your favorite bag of licks . . .

  • Is that Jesus playing guitar? Oh wait, nevermind. It's Derek Trucks. Even better.

  • No man! Jesus plays a Tele !

  • @CaptMang Duane would be even better

  • Who was that old fart playing rythem? Just kidding, love ya Eric, but you did look impressed or maybe comforted that there are real guitar players following in your footsteps.

  • This is why I play guitar

  • JESUS CHRIST!!!!

  • Goosebumps all over.

    Gotta love it.

  • this could perhaps be my favorite solo ever.

  • 0:32

    SEX

  • Finally some intelligent discussion, Danjd1 nails it its not a competition. We as listeners (and some performers) filter out what we dont like and build our libraries of what we do like. Those that play an instrument build their licks upon the foundation laid by such players as Duane, Derek and I would like to add Sonny Landreth.

  • Sonny's tone is second to none. good choice! :D

  • Duane is still my personal favorite but Trucks is up there as well..But remember If Duane were still alive that would be like 40 some years of him and his slide, so I'm pretty sure he would be up here if not past this point

  • I totally agree with you. I've been ignoring Derek until I heard this; added him to my list. GOOD STUFF

  • He is his father's son.

  • And his uncle's nephew...

  • lol,yes

  • i just cant get over this solo. The tone is absoluetly gorgeous, and it just gave me chills in an 80 degree room,

  • I completley agree

  • It's the best slide solo I've ever heard. I love it.

  • I watch the Crossroads DVD just about every night just for this solo, absolutely brilliant.

  • thank you god for derek trucks!

  • Some people get on me saying that the blues isn't beautiful but Derek proves that wrong.

There is something awesome about his slide.

  • Aside from sheer technical ability, it's his phrasing, it goes way beyond anyone, he's the most amazing player I've ever heard, I think...

  • The only man who can beat him is Duane himself.

  • At this point I don't think Duane could keep up with Derek, I mean he was the biggest stepping stone but Derek has gone so far it's hard for anyone to really keep up with him.

  • music isn't a competition. No one "beats" anyone.

It's just us the listener who wins with all the superb music.

  • I should have clarified, not beat I just think that Duane was better and I proffered Duane's playing. But yes you are correct music isn't a competition.

  • yeah duanes my all time favorite, theres something about his style that just gets me.

but i thank god every day for derek trucks so that I could see someone on an equal playing field as duane play guitar.

Both unreal in my book, and they both blow my mind.

  • Well said.

  • love clapton's double-take at the end.

  • is that all he does is slide

  • of course not. no guitarist is born with a slide on his finger. that just happens to be Derek's preference.

  • In an interview I read, he said it took up 60%-70% of his playing. I ain't complaining, his slide work is an insperation to me personally. It's so clean and precise. you close your eyes, you almost can't tell he's playing slide.

  • what do you mean do you have no ears!!! His slide playing is absolutely unreal and check out desdemona on youtube aswell if you want to here his fantastic fretted playing aswell

  • hes a fantastic player but all I see is him playing slide and I feel kind of jealous

    (cant play slide for shit)

  • never got into duane allman, but i can dig derek truck's stuff. i love the way he phrases what he plays it's like he's saying something really really deep but on his guitar

  • for me, he is the greatest man to ever put a slide on his finger. sorry Duane.

  • and i thought i was odd

  • this gives me goose bumps man!

    so beautiful

  • sweet, thanks for sharing

  • absolutely superb!

  • oh fuck I am sure he had to sell his soul to devil to play like this ;)

  • mann i HOPE he sold his soul cause this is lightyears away from any other instrumentalist ive ever heard!

  • he is the f***ing man!!!!!!!!!

  • Unreal.

  • hes amazing!

  • i love Clapton's facial expression at 2:13, does a doubletake at how nasty Derek is laying into it...

  • He shows expression why the hell do people say he doesn't. look at his face his eyes are closed and hes into it

  • For someone who doesn't show any expression when playing, he sure does have a lot of damn soul.

  • So, Johnny Winter was asked Who he thought was a new rising Star and he said Derek Trucks.

  • hell yeah. he said it almost immediately after the question was asked too lmao.

  • This was at the July 2007 Crossroads festival in Chicago

  • where was this show? philly?
