  • i'd hate to have to play after him...

  • Love this solo. One of my favorites on YouTube.

  • The beat that starts at :53 seconds, although a very bold statement, I think is my favorite drum beat I have ever heard. God, i wish I could play like that. . . how does he play those ghost notes on the snare so well...?

  • @EverythingEvil007 It's a Purdie Shuffle...look it up on YT.

  • he never used the china lol

  • @iasm94 he's a racist.

  • if u cant hear it put the video to 240p

  • put the video to 240p if u cant here it. worked for me. pretty nice solo, some groovy beats there.

  • its okay!!

  • Where the hell is the sound? =[

  • Watch in 240p for audio. Awesome solo!

  • that's weird, i can hear the audio on my ipad but not my laptop. anyway, haha this video motivated me to seriously work on my shuffles. and i have to agree that this shuffle is, in fact, pretty sick nasty hahaha

  • SE SI SENTISSE......IF I COULD ONLY HEAR IT!!!!....lol

  • Where's the audio?

  • why cant I hear it????

  • that shuffle was sick nasty

  • That was pimp. You got mad skills dawg.

  • wow. dont dis this dude. hes amazing

  • Why does this bitch have scream so much

  • Hello. Dominated. Love this one. :)

  • There is absolutely nothing wrong with this drumming. People talking crap are idiots.

  • you need to give a purity shuffle tutorial!

  • hace el mismo ritmo que dennis chambers al principio

  • i dont like people like him, thinking they are the best just because they can play drums... i mean, iam a drummer,too... but i dont pose like him with stick spins and that shit... its still just an instrument like any other, so he should not think he is the king... good drumming, but his character seems to suck...

  • It might look that way but you don't know him out of this video so...You know? And the stick tricks don't exactly make it easier, and showmanship is huge in drumming.

  • He's a nice guy for sure. I used to see him on some drum forums.

  • hes playing the same thing for too long, he needs to have more variation

  • dude yea right... that was like the most variation you could do.

  • how can people say he's not good? the guy is a beast. that shuffle groove is ridiculously awesome

  • zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz slept through half of it...Would like to hear him on a kick, snare and a pr of hats...SOunded like nuts and bolts in a dryer to me..

  • definitely knows his stuff!

  • This should be called how to do paradiddles around the drumset. It's a great paradiddle heavy drum solo. Good enough for a regional win but not a national one.

    Still an awesome solo.

  • @AirmetalDrummer Like to see you post a video doing half of this. Keyboard warrior.

  • @quicklikeabunny666 It's like you don't understand how to read the tone of a comment. In what part of my comment was there any hint at saying I was better than him?

Do you think he could beat any of the previous winners of the national drum-offs?

I think you need to turn the mirror around and look at yourself. You're the real "Keyboard Warrior."

I was complimenting him. That's why people gave me thumbs up, because what I said is makes sense - unlike your comment.

  • Nice Job - thought - energy - etc

  • i like that shuffle

  • boring

  • ha ha i see a virgil clone lol

  • blast beats and double bass aren't going to get you anywhere in this competition.

  • this guy is pretty good

  • tool

  • i am sooo tired of hearing people start their solos with cymbal rolls

  • ya man!!!!

  • dude i think its a his own variation of this denis chambers groove. check out my fav videos its in there. this kid is cool btw

  • Hell I thought I seen it all on youtube. WRONG!!!

  • this guy is fucking insane!

  • 1:33 awesome

  • hes good

  • amazing!!! i hope i'm this good one day!

  • this is dope.

it sucks that some people who come on youtube are so closed-minded and they say dumb shit when im sure most of them dont what good drumming really is.

  • Hope you don't mind, dude...I ripped you off...good solo, very creative, GREAT showmanship...

  • i think every one rips off that groove at 0:54

    it's so rad.

  • 0:54

ive been playing drums for a few years. and i cant figure that beat out.

like i listen to it and Im like, yeah i got this. then i get behind the kit and blank out. i wish i could rip that groove off.

  • it's just a kind of simple funk groove, interupted by a bunch of double strokes w the left hand... AT FIRST. then it turns into something fierce!

  • The left hand is a basic shuffle with the left hitting the second and third triplet on each beat and accenting on two and four and the kick stuff can be learned by ear but i'd bet its just improvisation. That's my best guess at it. Excellent beat!

  • what about the left hand? the way it hits looks weird. are those just straight single strokes?

  • It's just a half-time shuffle groove. Look it up on youtube there are lessons for it.

  • its a fast RnB shuffle with some modulation at the end before he switches to teh ride

  • the hi hats on all 4 beats( quarter notes)

in between all them is a double stroke

and double bass eight notes all the way through

  • its definantly a purdie shuffle

  • @skiddlecrumms purdie shuffle on speed and acid. sick what he did changing the accents with that/.

  • If he won this thing there needs to be better playwers taking part. he's ok. Maybe he didn't work on this long maybe some more practice.

  • he is amazing. you must not realize good drums when you see it, even when its plainly in your face like this

  • Well that video would explain why he never made past the 1st round. Guy Sucks.

  • how can you say he sucks? he has fucking talent regardless of how far he made it and hu ever is better then him he has talent. just cuz someone can do it better doesnt take away the others talent

  • dude, he is beast. just imagine the rest of the competition. There just isn't enough variation.

  • Well then lets see you do it better. Im sure this dude is way more talented than you are, so why dont you post a video of you playing on youtube

  • I just noticed, the black guy is the only one that doesn't clap. I guess he saw Evan as competition haha?

  • how's he doing the fill thing at 1:33 - 1:36 ?, It doesn't sound right with single strokes

  • I wish I knew how haha. that fill is my favorite part.

  • the guy is the best drummer i ever seen

  • whoever tuned those toms is RETARDED

  • thats a bad ass half time shuffle grove in the beganing!!! good job bro

  • I've said it once and i'll say it again. :53 is epic.

  • its the groove for rosanna by toto look it up rosanna groove or something :)

its pretty simple when broken down

i can even do parts of it when i saw the explaination video :)

  • Its almost the same except hes play quads instead of triplets. The rosanna groove is just triplets.

  • Evan You're the shit. Don't listen to that bullshit. I'd like to see the negative commenters try that. Keeping truckin you sexy sob

  • u guys r retarded. he is not fast. george kollias is fast. this guy isnt

  • Dammmmn. . . that is a sick nasty fat as hell beat you got going there for a second at 50 sec 2:15. kill it. i am entering the drum off for Indy in 2012. i will proly win the district if nothing else.

  • yo thats so easy

  • This guy can play. Stop the negative comments. He is damn skilled.

  • anyone can do some of those fast fills with a double pedal. his singles were pretty fast though.

  • He keeps..going and going...and going...and pissing of the judges...you are over your time....that gets passed along and we judges keep that in mind....But I must admit he was petty damn good....

  • WOW o o 0

  • If you think this guy is fast, watch donnie marple's GC Drumoff performance.

  • you think donnie marple is fast?

watch eric moore then you can see what fast is

  • really? you stood up to test the cymbals?

  • For anyone who said the video is sped up, watch the crowd and the cymbals, its obviously not

  • oh my goddd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow. 0:53 onwards is godly.

  • Which GC is this at....this looks like the one in Towson,MD

  • fuck ya man this guy can play!

  • gotta love the denis chambers groove

  • :53 is epic.

  • yeah..how the hell does he do that?..one of the best beats ive ever heard

  • Saying he isnt talented is ignorant. As far as the arrogant statements go, try listening without watching. Is he still "arrogant"?

  • i swear if this guy lost...

  • technically sound, plays with finesse as well as emotion. brings out the full potential in that sick ass kit. and adding to all that... theatricality? amazing!

  • Love the rudiments.

  • shit thats was awsome nice way to end it

  • that was for gkdrummerboy's question by the way. :]

  • I love the ghost notes about a minute in

  • i love how he plays with a traditional grip

    awesome video

  • i dont see everyones problem with this guy. i think he has a lot of talent.

  • hes alright the drums.

  • looks like my drumset

i have a pearl masters BRX

i cant tell if thats it tho

  • Dang, All before everyone had good comments, but after a good video has been up for awhile the flamers come in... This guy is GREAT no need to spread that hate with retarded statements like he is arrogant, its the freaking guitar center drum off -Its not a band gig- IDIOTS today..

  • You are confuzing flamers for objective critiques. My biggest issue with him has never been about technical ability. He twirls those sticks like a mofo. My issue with him is how incredibly stiff and fake he is. There's another comment in here about a self-promoting web site of his. I'd like to see if that's true, becuase from this vid alone, he just seems like the type that would do that.

  • Answer these questions to the best of your ability.

    1) Are you a drummer?

    2) What does comment sense mean?

    3) What is going on in this video?

    4) 2+2=(Place answer here)

    5) Explain how you can type 'Stiff' and 'fake' in the same sentence about a drummer, and not notice the contradiction...!!!!???

  • he has great style in my opinion. hes killin it. not everyone has this style of being fluent and being loose gripped. take it ez.

  • can u elaborate on how hes fake. What is her portray that is false to wat he actually is? hes drumming and thats it

  • How is that first beat played?

  • it is just swiss army triplets, with right hand on hi hat and left on snare, and a little bass drum groove under it. :]

  • hey, at 0:53, i don't think those are swiss army triplets. He's doing a shuffle, look at his right hand. Here's what i think: Right hand is doing 1/4 note triplets with the middle "trip" cut out, leaving: 1 let 2 let 3 let 4 let... etc (also known as a shuffle)

    ____= 8th rest

Left hand count 1: ____ trip let

    Left hand count 2: ____ trip ____

Left hand count 3: THREE (accented)_____ let

Left hand count 4: ____ trip let

Bass drum is played exactly like the Jeff Porcaro "Rosanna" shuffle.

  • well i tried... haha.

  • haha nice,

btw..... im just guessing too. That's just what i THINK he did, dont know for sure though.

  • It's easier to count in 6/8 time instead of 4/4. At least to me. It cuts the overall tempo down.

  • hmmmm, im looking back on what i said, and i agree that it would be a very quick tempo to count it like that. I guess you could also arrange it to where the snare backbeat is on count 2 and 4 (instead of count 3); if you did that, then all the other notes in between would have to be counted as sextuplets.

Not trying to contradict you, but i don't think you can really count that in 6/8. Which count would the downbeat/upbeats be on?

  • Yeah, it can get tricky to count in 6/8, too. I said 6/8, but I'm so used to counting 6/8 in 2/2, but some folks don't know what 2/2 is. Also, if counted in sixes, slow it down alot, and you can feel it. It's an intersting shuffle. I love the drums he has. Pearl Master's series if I'm not mistaken. I use VMX visions. I little more than a hobbyist these days...

  • Ok, i think I THINK i understand what you mean now. Yeah, i dont really count too much using half notes (2/2). Very cool groove, maybe ill make a video about it.

Man, for some reason i always thought he played a Gretsch Renown here. Visions are great drums. Im kinda stuck with poplar right now haha.

  • why did he stand up?.......

  • Starting at 3:20ish, he does the generic double pedal beat. And it sounds horrible with the rest of it. And I totally agree with Sterry9724.

And speed don't mean a damn thing if you can't you use it right.

  • This has always been an interesting guy to me but not for drumming. Invents pro drummer persona for himself on a silly drum forum, when he doesn't play that many gigs, solidifies a fake rep by condemning a stupid drumming sport, while his real motivation is promoting the national store drumoff that he's in, announces semi retirement when he never had a career, has yes boys calling a similar person a mama's boy when he has (no lie) lived most of his adult life in mom's basement. Total fake.

  • Frankly it's just random noises without feel, soul or creativity.

    Fast? Yeah.

Nice to listen to? God no. |:

  • ummmm no, i completely disagree with you except for the fast part. and it wasn't even his speed that stuck out in the video. To me, what stuck out the most was how intricate his beats were and how flawless his playing was.

And I indeed enjoyed listening to those "random noises". Personally i think this not playing with "soul" stuff comes from the old fashioned drummers. I find this video and myself to be part of the "new age".

This is all just my opinion though, so please don't bash me :]

  • try doing the shuffle at 0:59

  • Pleaz ppl, if you think you want to talk shit on Youtube off all places bring your shit to back it up...really nice playing.

  • i agree. I have no vids up so i try not to talk shit.

  • ya, me neither, but i know most of these ppl who do talk prolly can't even play a basic rock beat lol

  • exactly

  • yep please record your sound sepret with like even 1 mic it sounds so much beter than you cameras thanks

  • im a lot more talented ive been playing drums for around 17 years, i have played with bands like led zeppelin, and tool, and blink 182, take a look at my profile

  • Stop already I'm trying to make my purchase.. Im tired of hearing you show off.

  • sweet shuffle beat. but thats about it.

  • anyone know what cymbals he's useing they sound really good.

  • maybe its him not the cymbals

  • Thank you, drumfan619. Finally someone who understands. Every year is the same, some guy comes and demonstrates the same generic technique, twirls his sticks, and plays the drum set like tenors. 0 soul, 0 creativity. People who don't know anything about drums are so in awe by that shit, give me a break. Go learn from the Jazz drummers.

  • And metal drummers

  • Most metal drummer do all the same tricks in my opinion. Not saying they arent bad ass mother fuckers, but the only metal drummer that i have seen step outside the box is the dude from Killswitch, he tears it up on like a 4 piece. He is heavy with weird beats instead of speed. But I halfway agree with you.

  • Like Buddy!

  • No, actually thank you for understanding. He's a freaking wind up monkey with a smile pasted on his face, saying "hey look what I can do". No soul, no creativity, no feel; just rudiments and routines strung together to attempt to put together a solo. Finally someone gets it.

  • have to agree with you here... i've seen this video a hundred times and although i totally appreciate the technicality of some of the stuff he's doing... its the dryest performance i've ever seen... arrogant mofo that he is

  • don't know him personally so I don't know if he's arrogant off the drums, so I can just speak to his drumming. Dry, no feel, mechanical, no groove, show off, repetitive, no creativity, freaky smile, strung together rudiments, self-promoting; all come to mind when I watch this. "Arrogant", sure looks like it, but who knows.

  • your an idiot he's just better than you

  • Yeah, whatever... speed speed speed ... vraaammm vraaamm... and again, whatever major loser! .. ;p

  • what the hell are you idiots talking about. don't take this the wrong way... he's fast as hell, not the fastest but fast. his strength in this is his patterns and, well, honestly his showmanship. too many people take showmanship as cockiness, but he really keeps some complex stuff going while he's doing visuals. i'm very impressed with this guy.

(although not the smartest thing to piss off the judges, isn't that right ALPHAMAN? XP)

  • holy shit that was amazing!

what kit is that??? It has a kickass sound, especially the bass drum!

  • Wining video? Really cool playing.

  • hes pretty good

  • this kid kicks ass.

  • lollollollollollollollollollollolollol?????lollollollollollollollollollollololololollololololollololollololollolololl

  • gran final cabron he !

  • my comment btw is in response to evans response to drumfandouchepants

  • very good style of drumming!!

    feel, speed, creativity,...all in one!!

he's a master of drums, there's no doubt about that.

  • nice work bud!

  • he played da same groove dennis chambers played.

  • kool

  • man drumming at gutair center is hella fun

you only get five minutes to play

which is good i played a 5000 drum set there

  • sounds like the rosanna drum shuffle by jeff procaro...

  • Your really good

  • haha i thought he was good, lol untill some one said what you just said and i listened agian... lol your right, lol talented for those of us that can play drums, but in the drumming world its bland.

  • Wow! If your opinion is different you're a "moron" or a "tard". Such maturity. I'll stick by what I said, this dude has got his rudiments down, I'll give him that, but he couldn't lay down a groove with feeling if his life depended on it.

  • Really? So that half time shuffle im playing has no feeling? I'm sure plenty of musicians and others would disagree with you.

  • Homie, I don't particularly agree with this guy, but defending your playing in the comments by saying "plenty of musicians and others would disagree with you" doesn't say as much as putting up a video of you grooving... do it!

  • Are you kidding me? Go watch at :54. The dude has great feel and great chops.

  • The guy shows great feel and chops at :54-1:30, 2:18-3:12, and 4:12-4:40 or so. At lot of skill.

  • Dude, people are always gonna try to be better in some way. It doesn't matter that you played a helluva nice solo, some jackasses saw your video here and started feeling inadequate, so they act like they're freakin' Buddy Rich or something and critcize you in order to feel better about themselves. Real drummers recognize this as a good piece of work and deserving of compliments. Well done.

  • yea im one of them this solo is awesome. i have a question though about the shuffle..do you approach it as just swung eighth notes on the hi hat with ghost note diddles or wutever the hell you would call them lol..or do you just play swiss army triplets between the hi hat and snare? sorry if thats confusing either way this solo is awesome..drumfan is an idiot

  • drumfan619, im not gonna call u a 'moron' or a 'tard', but i respectfully disagree. imo, there was def feeling in that solo.

  • its called showmanship tard...and its just one more thing that he has down better than u...

  • You will never see Danny Carey twirling his sticks why because hes a great drummer without having to twirl his stick around

  • I think "moron" is a bit harsh. Stick twirling has nothing to do with "chops". It's a visual thing. "Chops" notwithstanding, I still think this guy lacks something more important than pure chops: and that's "feel", "soul", or whatever you wanna call it. He plays like he's got a stick up his ass.
